Hood Scoop On Hood Hump

WOOOO!!! Finally a way to cool off my timing belt without the cover on it!!!!! :applause:

I agrre more with Pied Eye on this one. There is a crazy science to under hood ventilation and just cutting random holes in the hood, even if it looks good can actually hurt the efficiency of the under hood air flow. Now if that section was partitioned off with a direct flow to an N/T filter like a CAI so the air goes nowhere BUT to the intake manifold, then that would probably be worth the good look.

Here is a far out kinda thought, but how but making a ducting on the underside of hte hood? I know a company called Cervinis that makes hood for the fords have cowls and scoops with ducts underside of the hood that puts it to functional areas. Maybe if it was made something similar it would be kinda neat. Lots a fab work i know, but it looks great anyway, and if it were made functional like that.

To all of you who have a problem with someone saying this is rice. . . . I'll even repost the original posters very first post. . . .

Tell me your opinion:

It's just 3 little cuts into the hood hump and some welding and I think it doesn't look too shabby...

I did the color font thingy too :p

Back on topic, I like it for the 2g n/t guys because i can see that actually function. Looks nice and probably works well as a duct.

My problem isn't for people saying "I like it" or "nope", my problem is when these 16 second 1/4 mile guys start talking trash if it doesn't increase performance.

Although every little bit helps I completely agree.

The car itself looks good but I don't see that scoop being able to be pulled off very easily not even for the function but the form also.

I mean don't get me wrong I love performance but what about when you have a 10sec street car. Then what?

x3 again. Nice seeing people with neutral spirits and not just following a generality. And for all those saying it's of no use, it can easily be converted either with a duct on the hood itself or as the op posted; if the intake is moved to that area (it's not the timing belt getting air...420a are different! :ohdamn:).

Just like some 4g63t put the ducting where the SMIC used to be, it's a functional mod, just with the added fact it looks good. I still think it looks great either way.

You asked for opinions. I think it makes you look like a ricer plain and simple.

I think it looks good. I dont know why people would discount the good looks because they are pointless there are so many things that are pointless on cars but make them better. Radios serve no real point in making your car perform better but most people have them because they enhance your vehicle same with a scoop that looks good.

I have a radio in my car because I like to listen to music not because I like the way is glows. This is pretty functional, I would hate to have my timing belt overheat...

I hope im not one of those guys you are speaking of!!

1: you dont' know how what my car runs and i can tell you its WAY faster than 16 sec. (sorry i don't have proof to show yet but when my tranny is fixed and i get her tuned ill be sure to PM you my time slips!)

2: I wasn't downing on it in anyway, i simply said if its functional, DO IT, meaning no question ask, if its not, then its more on the "ok maybe ill think about it"

3: AND i DO believe i said, it looked nice, actually i said "its well put together!"

And last.. it was my OPINION... which the OP asked for so, if you may, stop putting down other peoples opinions!

I'm in the progress of turbocharging my car and want to build a setup/piping like this (of course with less bling bling):
http://www.abload.de/img/420atdd6z.jpg

But okay, I leave it stock for now. Maybe I gonna try it later when the car runs.

Unless you pipe your turbo like this ^ then it would be usless because most of the 420A guys who turbo have a straight pipe off the compressor and the vent would be too far back.

Has no one even considered that this modification will most likely make under the hood ventilation, worse?

Also this ^ IMO the best way to cool your engine is to run a splitter and "ramp" the air up through the bottom and then vent out the top. I guess hood scoops have their place, however, most are created to look cool. If thats your thing cool more power to you just don't spit your "Dude I can totally tell a difference" stuff. Other than that those other cars are wicked clean I can appreciate a car that is well takin care of.

Its another hole to trap air and slow the car down! If it to do with heat then just space the hood and the hinges with bolts to evak heat from the rear! But I've also wondered by the cars with the 420a engines had the bulge on the bonnet anyway! It was only there as the timing cover wouldn't clear the hood! Strange :) guess it goes down to style!

I still don't like the scoop but if you feel you want to be different then do it! I'll be making a grill for better flow to the rad in time but again that's for a purpose not looks!

OP has a 420a engine....not 4g63t

We know its a just a joke on the 4g63T. It wouldn't be functional for us. And as I said before It would be good for someone who has a 420a if they ducted and sealed off the intake for a forced CAI style. Exactly like anout us 4g63t guys putting it where the SMIC was.

Sry, wrong link.
