Hood Scoop On Hood Hump

I still want to try it, but I can't find a cheap "test" hood either.

Worst case is you'll have to do some welding and body work to put all pieces back how they were.
Take some black paint, mark the area where you want the hole, and paint it with the black (flat black preferably). Go on about your life for few days, drive the car as normal. See if you still want the hole in the hood, or if you want to change the shape of it, or not do it all together. If you decide to go for it you will have a nice template there for cutting, if not then get some paint thinner. It will take off the spray paint without damaging factory finish (as long as you are careful and don't leave it on). Good luck with the project :thumb:

As far as opinions, right after getting her i thought about doing that because the hump looked out-of-place. Now it seems odd to make it into a scoop because i got used to the hump.

as far as I can tell everyone missed the big problem, if your running a 4g63 engine, that hump is there to clear the timing belt, and this would basically shove a piece of metal right into your exhaust cam gear when you closed the hood LOL.

So, beings that my car has the 420A in it, I don't own a DSM? Even thought there are many parts that are interchangeable?

Precisely.

I thought this has been discussed?

If the next post doesn't pertain to a hood scoop on the hood hump whether it regards how it's done, or it's (complete lack of) functionality, this thread's getting closed. We already have enough threads on here pointing out what is a DSM and what isn't.

Don't do it. The hump service a purpose and that purpose has nothing to do with "forced induction" just simply room for the timing belt.

Personally I like it. I want to do this to my g2. Does anyone have instructions for this modification. I want mine to my functional. I have a 420a motor so I plan to add short ram intake.

Dragnous, if you want a functional scoop there you will have to make a five-sided (or any other top-less) air box that the hood will close against, essentially forming a full box with a slot. Another way would be to construct a 'snout' that goes right behind the slot in the hood. For either of them fiberglass would probably be the easiest although metal or heat-shaped plastic can also be used. If you go with the fiberglass, you can shape the form from thin cardboard. Use PVC pipes to shape tubular parts, remove the PVC after getting the shape right. After the resin sets you can scrape/sand the cardboard out and paint the new box. Or simply 'glass both sides of the cardboard form.

Thank you for the info.

Personally I prefer the hood "hump" left the way it is. I like the distinct look. It is what makes an Eclipse an Eclipse.
