Hood Hump [Merged 7-7] bump lump bulge goiter mound

our hump is all we have , don't take it away from us , it's our pride , it's like the head lights of a porsche 911 , the doors of a lambo ...... it would be just plain stupid to go through any sort of trouble to try to remove it!!!

I didn't like the hump at first but it's grown on me now, I was trying at one point to make my car a sleeper (which the 1.8 hood would have helped with) but not I've realized that with an exhaust it isn't going to be a sleeper. I'm just trying to get rid of the hood now.

Whay exactly do all '92 and up eclipse/talon/lasers have that raised spot in the hood? I can't find how it would do anything. Does it serve a purpose or is it just for looks?

without it the cam pulleys on the 2.0 would hit the hood.

I actually know of a girl who took her 2G eclipse back to the dealer because she thouht her hood should have 2 bumps in the hood. I wish I could have been the person to deal with that one!

BTW, it's for the DOHC engines.

I actually put a ram-air scoop on the opposite side of "the bump" and it looks pretty good. Oh, and by the way, if you're considering this, do all of humanity and DSMers alike a favor and ONLY put a hood scoop on your car if it is functional. I hate seeing all of these ricers with massive wings, hood scoops, and roof scoops that DON'T DO ANYTHING! Sorry, just had to vent.

All DSM's, except what was mentioned earlier about the 1.8 early 90 DSM's, have the bump not just 92 and up.

That was how I bought the car. I like to think of it as "rescuing an abused DSM".

That hasn't happened yet. In west michigan, people just do this stuff and don't mod the engine. it's sad

Your ram air scoop is functional because it feeds the cam gears with fresh air?

If the bump is to allow the cam gears to clear then why is it that the 420a motor does not have the bump on the opposite side? Just curious.

The 420A cam gears don't need the extra space from the hump to clear the hood...I'm guessing they left the hood with the hump for non turbo's because they didnt feel like manufacturing 2 different hoods for the same car, because as far as I know, the bulge serves no purpose on 420As, besides telling people your happy to see them :laugh:
