im am looking at buying a 1995 eagle talon tsi with 148000 it seems to be kept up very well. it has a very long list of mods and the guys says with the right tuning it can produce over 400whp. the only problem with it is it needs the cas re wired, and the turbo timer re instaled

TD06 Super 20g turbo lightly ported on the turbine inlet
Pacesetter header
Apexi N1 turbo back exhaust 3
AEM wideband
Delphi 680 cc injectors
Walbro 190 lph fp
BC 272/272 Cams
Socketed EPROM ecu burn chips with a burner and data logger
Dejon intake
Turbo XS mbc
LSD rear end
B/S eliminator kit installed
fmic and 3 inch intercooler piping all the way from the turbo to the throttle
Stage 4 XTD clutch + pressure plate
Fidanza Flywheel 8lbs
1g CAS for timing control

I was just wondering if 148000 miles are to many on a car with these types of mods and if wiring a cas would be a big trouble, the guys is only asking 2500 for it. thanks for your time and help.

minus the pacesetter header,Stage 4 XTD clutch + pressure plate, and Fidanza Flywheel 8lbs
it sounds like a great deal. visually how does she look? Make sure there's no shaft play in the turbine. If those are the only two things that are wrong with it I say go for it.

So knowing that the CAS needs to be re-wired, I'm assuming the car isn't running. Personally, I'm a little paranoid and I would assume the car would need more work than just rewiring the CAS. I'd either try to decrease the price a little more OR make him fix the CAS issue before buying the car.

from the pictures of the car that i have seen there is no rust and just minor scratches on it im going up to look at it this weekend possibly so ill be able to check for shaft play and othere things. and just wondering what are the down falls with that header and clutch set up. thanks for the info.

he says he startes it every week its just not driveable. i will talk to him later tonight and come back with more info on the cas problem to make sure thats the only issue and it seems like thats what is wring thanks for your help!

Personally, I'd bring a compression tester at the least. It's helped me on two TSI's I've bought non running. If the car doesn't run then testing at the very least compression will give you a good hint that the car needs work or doesn't. My first TSI I was told the compression should be good since the car ran fine before the fuel pump went out. I believed the guy since everything else was true that he told me. Took the compression test and they were all at 110 psi. Earned me $100 off the car over what I had already bargained down.

I could be wrong but the stock exhaust manifold would work just as good. The pacesetter is more or less for looks. And with the stage 4 clutch and 400hp, I don't like the idea of have a lightened flywheel.

I agree with the compression test. It sucks but you can't trust anyone anymore. And he might not even know about it.

yeah that does make sense i may get a more heavy duty flywheel but that is if the car is in good shape when i got to look at it. and i will deffinatly do a compression test and check for shaft play in the turbo. thanks for the help

Well after reading the post, I would say that there's more than what he's saying but if you're ready to take on the project I would still say it's worth it. Even if you do buy it for 2300 and have to put another 1500 into it, it would still be under the amount you would pay for a good AWD.

what else do you think would be wrong with it, i think he was just having troubles getting the 1g cas to fit in to the 2g spot but im not good with 2g dsms. and do you think 148000 is to many miles to go put another 1500 in to the car after buying it? thanks for the help man

"needs to be towed away" Like I said before, either get the price lower or make him fix the CAS (which I doubt he/she'll do) Lowering the price even $300-$500 would be ok with me.

yea i was thinking about going 1800, or 1500 with a trade for a 4 wheeler. i dont want to pay a ton for it i already have one project with swaping a 1.8l for a 2.0 turbo, but i dont think i can pass up a deal with an awd with that power for so cheap

You're going to have to put money into it regardless. If you can get him to come done that's great, but unless he really wants the four wheeler he's not going to go down to 1500. regardless I still say it's a decent buy. If you're not ready for another project car though she's not the one for you, because weather we like it or not our cars will always be project cars.

I'm not 100% sure why he has the 1g CAS on there in the first place if he didn't do the 6-bolt swap on the motor. You could just buy a used 2g CAS and it should plug right in. As far as the clutch setup goes, the fidanza flywheel isnt necessarily light duty, its just light weight. PLUS, with the Fidanza flywheel it has a replacable faceplate, so when it wears down you can buy a $90 replacement plate instead of a whole new flywheel.
It seems like a solid buy to me, especially if he comes down in price. BUT, keep in mind if he upgraded the power level of the car you can make a pretty safe bet that he wasn't taking it easy on it when he was driving around. Just things to think about. GOOD LUCK!

yea once i look at it and deepending what other things i see thats wrong ill probably end up getting it. and i have a garage all winter long so i will be bale to work on it for a while if i cant get it running right away. hopefully by the end of the next week ill have another dsm in my drive way!

he said the 1g cas was better for timing or something along those lines. and i just looked at the flywheel set up on line and it seems like a good set up and potential money save down the road. yea i cant imagine he took it to easy on the car but you realy cant seem to find a dsm that hasnt been unless its an automatic. thanks for the advice!

Have a couple of buddies go with you to look at it, someone you trust obviously and hopefully know their way around a car and that way you know you aren't just overlooking something because you "want" that car.
