good buy?

ok so I'm about to join the dsm world... i have been looking for while for a nice 2g gsx and I think I may have found one that will suit me... now one thing he said has happened since he posted the ad was that he had hit a branch that put a hole in the intercooler about the size of ones fingernail.... now its listed for 5k but he said he will take 4k b/c of the problem... now it makes me wonder why he doesnt just get it tack welded himself or something.. idk but i just sold my 350z and def moving onto a gsx sooo whatever input/ info you may want to share please do... very appreciated

btdubs first two things i take off... maybe even before i bring it home ... will be the mexican wing and the tach

For 4k I definitely think its a good deal. The car has been done up with some stuff that I personally dont like but can always be removed. Modifications list is nice and has a lot of items like the Eprom that will definitely leave you ready for some fun. I would do a compression test to make sure it has not been abused, look for leaks and or wear in parts that may tack on the usual tedious bills. But all in all if you like it I think the price is very fair. Also the intercooler being a Greddy is a bit pricey, but worst comes to worst, Punishments Intercooler kit is very affordable, looks great and would make a good low cost replacement if money was a issue after the purchase of the car. thats what i was thinkin... why a whole grand for such an easy fix.. when i called him he said "ill let it go for 4k"

i looked at the car before, hes been trying to sell it for a while now. He was located in elizabeth, NJ. Paints not original if you care about that, doesn't have a sunroof, it was blowing smoke, when i seen it he calmed all that was wrong with it was the wast gate, idk i was a little skeptical about the car. you really cant say if its a good deal before you go and see the car.

Do a compression test, check the end play in the crank, check the turbo shaft play, see if you can take it for an easy drive by bypassing the intercooler just to make sure the trans shifts ok. Check for bad ball joints and tie rods. Look for rust in the spare wheel well, o nthe hatch, and on the shock towers. See if there's blue or white smoke if you give it some throttle. If all those check out, I'd pay 4K for it. Get an intercooler core off e-bay or get a Punishment Racing intercooler kit and call it a day.The wing doesn't bother me as much as the tail lights. I'd get rid of those first and the tach.
