good buy?

a couple of weeks ago i found a 92 talon tsi awd in a junkyard for $600 with a good title, and it runs but it knocks. i was wondering if this is a good buy, it has the the 7 bolt because it was made in either june or july of 92 i dont remember, it has about 130,000 miles with black leather interior sunroof and its an automatic. the interior and exterior are in pretty good shape overall, but i was wondering if there was anything else that could cause the knocking besides the rod bearings?

Sure the motor knocks, it's probably a rod or something coming loose. Buy it, take the motor out and part it out, and put a JDM 6 bolt in it. For less than $2000 you can have a clean car with a fresh JDM turbo engine in it. Go for it.

Matt, you're right about just pulling the motor as he's facing a complete rebuild. A spun bearing means chunks of metal and grit all over the inside of the oil pan and block and over the rings and in the head... and Besides, a DSM crank is not "serviceable" accordning to the the manufacturer. That means any scoring or any scratches in the journal that cannot be polished out means that you need another crank . Folks sell cut cranks, cut .01" or .02" but just search and see all the failures guys have had with cut cranks. It's a risk not worth taking, if you plan to take the car to an over-stock horsepower level. And who isn't. It's an awd !

But a JDM 4g63 6-bolt is no better than a domestic 6-bolt.

well, i havent bought it yet because i dont have any money at the time, i will have to sell my eclipse before i buy it anyways because my dad doesnt want two of those 'japanese rice grinders' sittin around , that and my parents have been complaining about how much the insurance will cost. Oh and does anybody know where i could get a good low mileage jdm or domestic 6 bolt (besides a junkyard) and about how much it would cost?
