I bet the wide tires/rims your running take their toll on wheel bearings :D. I know I was really surprised last year when I replaced mine, one bearing had water in it OMG . (The car had been sitting for quite a while).

So what's new with things Greg?

I'll have another update by the end of the weekend...

It’s been a busy past couple of days. Just as I finished pulling the old motor on Friday the UPS truck showed up with the new engine. The custom crate worked perfect and everything was completely in tact. The 2.4 is absolutely beautiful and the obvious attention to detail is unsurpassed.

I began bolting on the timing belt cover, the water pump pulley, and crank pulley, (Mitch asked me to use a balancer vs. the light weight crank pulley I had been using to insure the new 2.4 crank will live a lifetime). With the engine mounts attached we hoisted the new road race motor into the engine bay. I put a little Vaseline on the polyurethane mounts and it slipped right in place.

First thing in the morning I installed the intake manifold. I was impressed with the accuracy of the porting, knowing this baby is gonna have some power. I greased the ends of the new Precision 1000cc injectors and slipped on the AEM fuel rail. I’m using all new vacuum line hosing to insure no vacuum leaks. Next it was on the throttle body, I was amazed with the coating of dirt and crap that had accumulated on the inside surface. A twenty-minute cleanup took care of that and the throttle body was attached.

I got the front I/C pipe back from the welders so I checked fitment on the new intercooler setup. I had already installed the new power steering cooler and noticed some areas that needed sheathing to protect the new pipes from rubbing against some sheet metal. It’s real important to understand that the motor itself moves around in the engine bay big time, so making sure that all piping or electrical lines are protected is very necessary. I had to reroute some electrical lines to accommodate where the new I/C pipes enter the engine bay (the over flow is history also, but we’re putting in a race breather system anyway so no biggy).

I’m waiting on a 6-puck race disc from RRE so the tranny is going to have to wait a bit before install.

The FP turbo and 0-2 housing should be here Monday. With that installed we should be able to finish up the I/C pipe routing fitment and get them to the welders. The Tial wastegate is still lagging so we won’t be starting the motor for a bit, and it’s killing me…:shhh:

Man that front end looks busy with the ic/ps cooler/oil cooler/ radiator opening/piping/and eventually the brake ducting.

Oh yeah, I pick up the radiator from "PWR" on Tuesday :D (the brake ducts should be easier getting rid of the side mount I/C...) Basically the car should be more efficient; and an extra couple of hundred horsepower:rocks:

With the motor in there now you don't even notice all the dust on the windshield!!:D Looks great Greg!!:thumb:

Are you going to be putting the brake ducts in the side vents or in the middle again? I'd thought about putting them on the sides of the front bumper and using a naca duct to feed them, not sure that's a good point for airflow though.

Yeah, 500 sq.ft and body shop don't go together so well. I've always got 4 or 5 different projects going on at the same time and try to do a major cleanup every couple of days. It definetly gets pretty crowded

They're gonna have to be on the sides this time. There's no way I can fit anything else up front (it's gotten real crowded up there) OMG

That's what I was looking at myself. Between the ic piping, fmic, rad, and oil cooler I didn't have much room myself. I'm thinking some of the larger NACA ducts mounted along the side should work, at least I hope it does. :thumb:

It's looking mighty good, Greg. It looks like you should be good for Cal Speedway. :D

I've been playing with NACA duct to the lower bumper cover, side faring area, approach. I have the standard 3" size NACA ducts, and have tried to mock it up. As Greg was saying, there's enough room on the drivers side, but there doesn't seem to be enough room on the passenger side, with the side mount in place. I'm going to re-check this with the car up on the rack to see if there are any more possibilities of making it work. I'll report back my findings.

:)
Tom

See, with my car and the fmic all I have over there are the ic pipes so the only concern I had was getting enough airflow to it. I'd have to think it would be awfully tough to get the ducting in there without running it around the front and then behind the smic.

Here's what I'm working with on the driver's side.

Clearance issues on a stock body with a FMIC is a tough one. At least with my body kit valence I have some room to play around with. But where there's the will there's a way I'm sure :sneaky:

Hey Kyle,

It looks like, from the pix, you should be able to fit a NACA duct in there. I thought you were still running a sidemount.
:)
Tom

Where can I find some ducting like what you're talking about? I could use some to help keep the brakes cool as well.

So here's a side note for the continuing soga of preparation. The FP 3052 turbo with the 0-2 housing and dump pipe have arrived (minus the Tial wastegate). Tial can't make wastgates fast enough to keep up with supply and demand. FP has the Tial's on back-order so delivery time is ?? Logic (Ed), stepped up to the plate and is sending me his new Tial 44 so we can get the motor running. Not only am I using Ed's block but now I'll be using his wastegate too! If this isn't a Tuner brother helping out in the time of need, then I don't know what? Thank you Ed:thumb: Of course when the new shipment of Tial's comes in at FP one will be sent to Ed ASAP!

It's all the details like this that get you pulling your hair out before the start of a race season:cry:

[ricer]Sorry Greg, since you can't get me one in blue, the deal's off.[/ricer] :D

Seriously though, I'm glad to help out. I'm still at least a few weeks out from having an engine to use it with myself, so it's not a problem at all. :thumb:

Well, I got my good news / bad news from my Doctor yesterday about my foot / ankle. Good news is that they took my freaking cast off.... thank god! That was my first cast I've ever had and it sucked. My bad news is, that I have to go under the knife and have 3-4 screws added to my ankle / foot (its going to look like Greg's front end :p). This is going to require 5-6months of recovery, and depending on the date of my surgery, I am almost curtain that my 2006 race season is over before it even began. So I am gonna be watching alot of nascar races and reading about your guy's fun on th track. I wonder if they make a fireproof cast for race car drivers??? I almost wish I had an automatic now... no not really. haha ROFL

Sorry to hear that, what a bummer. We'll be thinking of ya while we're out there though, well maybe not .LOL

Tim, hope you get well in time to get some runs in.

It blows me away how a manufacturer will offer a product in different colors and then make a limited supply of those colors. "Oh yeah, if you want a blue one add 12-weeks to the order WTF

And you'll be getting "10 cheers" from me Ed for all that you've contributed:thumb: As far as I'm concerned you should be racing at California Speedway instead of me ;)

Just cover it in header wrap and you'll be good to go ROFL ROFL

It really does suck about the surgery (sorry about that)

We are blessed to have not only great and more than patient (a LOT more than patient) costumers, but also true friends in need.
Ed, what else can I ask from you before you decide “That’s it! It’s time to get a gun!”?
