I'm not sure how much weight in the rear you have, but I'm pretty sure that stock talon wing is worthless. I would either step up to a real wing to get some real downforce on the rear, or just remove that other. It's possible that the stock one adds some high speed stability but I'd highly doubt it.

Car looks good though, Have some fun at Road Atlanta!

Its funny you bring that up...Last night I was looking at some "real" wings on-line. I know the factory wing does about nothing for me...Just have not bothered to take it off really. I wanted to get the one from Greg (Collier) but he had sold it already. There is a guy that I race with over in Louisiana that did some SERIOUS research on wings and found an eBay one to actually be one of the better performing ones in his testing. It was actually pretty cheap as well. I think with shipping he got it for around $100. So I was looking into those as well.

And thanks Greg...I am looking forward to next weekend VERY much :thumb:

This is actually really interesting. I know for a fact that on an Eclipse the high rise wing adds some high speed stability. At 150mph, my rear end stays planted and doesn't twice one bit even over some slight road imperfecions. On the talon, I'm not to sure about it. It doesn't even look like it does anynthing really. Tsiboosted, down the front straight at your track how does the rear end feel? As well compared to the Panoz that I believe I remember you saying knowing. (I at least hope you have taken a ride in it haha).

Nick - I am with you, I dont think it really does much if anything at all. My rear end with the old setup felt fine at high speeds on the straights. Now with the T-25, I never got my car to over 135 mph to be honest with you. The Panoz is a completely different car. And yes, I use to race it quite a bit before I got back into the DSM. It weighs allot more, rear wheel drive and yes it does have a big wing on the back and we have played with the angle/pitch/height of the wing and it makes very intersting effects on the car.

I am going to be looking at different wings allot here in the near future and see which one may be good for my TSi. I need to go ahead and take the rear wing off and see what it does. I would venture a guess I will not even be able to tell its gone.

Here is the Panoz and the wing it uses....

Here is a wing I had been looking at trying....I wish it was a bit taller though. Not sure yet of course.

Well, now that I think about it, I believe the archer Talons didn't use wings either. Like this:

If not, then there is something along the lines that this Eclipse race car took:

And then there is this one that I really like. Don't have a clue how functional it is, but it has to do something:

Sorry for all the pictures. Just posting what I have seen on DSM's that seem to work.

Thanks for the pics Nick...Gives me some other options to look at and perhaps pursue here with the wing. I had seen the black and yellow Talon before but not the other 2.

so hows the car coming eddie? things going well?

Yeah Andy, car is fine. Just need to change out the drivers side rotor and it will almost be good to go. I am still waiting on the rest of my cage to get here. It was suppose to be here in August 7th but the shipping company had my phone number wrong for some reason....Now it seems no one knows where it is. Only thing for sure is that it is somewherer between L.A. and Pensacola. So thats only about ohhhhh 2,000 miles or so. No big deal right :mad::mad:

So once that gets here, hoepfully within the next 2 weeks...We can get it welded in and be ready for the season. If it doesnt get herer at least the week of September 22nd, we are going to have to go another route and most likely just put a "fix" in there with some bars coming down from the main hoop to the floor or something. Hopefully we do not have to cross that bridge. But it would be a last resort.

Okay....It has been a little while since I posted up so here we go. Sorry, vacation and my "real" job have been busy as of late. But here we are now. Just got in the rest of my roll cage last week so that will be going in sometime this week. Sent my paperwork off to NASA to renew my license for this year.:thumb: The season kicks off in 3 weeks and Round #1 is October 4th - 5th. Finally time to see how the new engine setup is going to handle the track we race on.

Few things I have to do is get another brake rotor as I chewed through the drivers side front at Road Atlanta last month. Get my order into Red Line for some oil, water wetter and other lubes. Go through the car and make sure everything is good to go, safety equipment etc. Then go through the pit boxes and make sure all the tools and what not are in good roder. Air compressor & tools etc. Allot to do and not really all that much time to get it done. Hopefully the guywelding in the cage want take too long and I can get the car back before the weekend. Going to try and get it on scales before the series starts as well. Getting closer ROFL:D

looking good eddie! Have you changed anything on the suspension from last year?

No, I'm affraid not yet Andy. That will have to wait till around December before I can tackle that most likely. I will be going to the Ground Control coilovers when I do though. Have not really came up with what spring rates yet though. But it is next on the list for sure.

Ground Controls with some Koni shocks would be a great setup.

Keep us posted.

Also, what tires are you running this season?

Hankook Ventus slicks. 225/50/16. They are a good tire for the price range and I can get away with 2 sets for the whole series which is nice. One bad thing about the track we race on...It can be a cheese grader on tires if you are off the line. Which in racing obviously happens from time to time :D

Ok, well now it is getting very close to the 1st round of the 2008 - 2009 Grand Bayou Race Series. We finished putting in the rest of the roll cage over the weekend and have a few shots of it below. Car is still filthy from doing all the work so dont look at the dirtiness there.

This week will be all about fresh Red Line 40wt race oil, water wetter, checking all lines etc. etc. Just making sure everything is proper working order for this weekend. New brakes. We leave Friday morning for Louisiana. For a full list of everything we did to the car in the off-season, check out my blog HERE Off to the pics....

This weekend is your first race event? Looking forward to seeing the results!

Sure is Andy. Round #1 of 7 this year. They have added another round this year to include a charity race that will double as the final round of the series. Still some things left to do on the car. I still need to go through it more and nut & bolt it. Got the brakes changed last night, oil changed, coolant changed and made sure the battery in the rear was good to go with the new box I had to get as the old one broke at Road Atlanta.

Everything seems to be in good working order. Have not driven it (besides beding the brakes) since Atlanta. So the car should be fine to go. But we will find out on Saturday morning at practice. I'll try and post some news up during the day on Saturday to let everyone know whats going on. :thumb: Trying to dial in the AFC a little more as well, so we'll be playing around with that on Saturday most of the day. Maybe also try some different rates on the suspension package and head into Sunday to see how the new engine is going to stack up this season. I know allot of other guys have had all off-season to upgarde as well. So this year should be even more fun than last year. I can hardly wait man !!!

Did i miss something, when did you upgrade your suspension?

No, you didnt miss anything. Just going to play wiuth the settings on the KYB's to see if we can come up with anything better. If not, no harm no foul you know? Just looking to try and imrpove from where we are with what we have is all.

I got some spacers from a circle track racer friend of mine that we are also going to try and see how the perform as well. Very similar to what NASCAR uses in their springs to limit travel etc. Should be interesting to see how they will work on my car.
