Ok, last night the shop called me and said the car was running :D:D Going today to check it out and pick it up later this afternoon. After I get it all home, time to start the break in process. Going to be using Moto Man's process which seems to be the best way I have found. I know some people have their own way, but his seems to be the overall most successful I have been looking into. I'll be posting some pics and results of the break in process as soon as I can :sneaky: I'm just glad its finally back together and running fine with no major issues (knock on wood)

break in process: beat the crap out of the car :D (at a low psi of course)

so was there a problem with the oil pressure or did they just go for it and start the thing up?

Of course low PSI :D And yeah, they just let the starter turn it over more and the pressure was fine. After that, they said it fired right up. On the PSI side of it, I was thinking around 12 or 13. Good or no? I dont think it will go much lower. Going to be setting it all up today and try to do the intitial break in later this afternoon I hope. We'll see though, its summer in Florida which means it rains every afternoon between 2 & 6.

i would say boosting 12-13psi should be just fine. you just dont want to see knock.

Well....It was break in time this afternoon. It went as well as it could have possibly have gone until around the 20th mile (the last mile) I was going to break it in today. I let the car come to operating temps and set out onto where I was going to break the motor in at. Did some 2nd gear pulls and 1 3rd gear pull at 10 PSI. Got out after about 5 miles, popped the hood to check for leaks and nothing. Under the car no leaks. Did the same after 10 miles and no leaks. And agin after 15 miles and no leaks. So I went out for some last 2nd & 3rd gear pulls. I was almost to the 20th mile and the end of me break in process......When I went to grab 2nd gear and floor it, I look over at the oil pressure gauge and it is dead on zero. I immediatly shut the car down and pulled over. Nothing seemed to be leaking at the time or anything out of the ordinary. So I fire the car back up and ease out of the lot I was in and I just "blipped" the gas pedal to see if maybe I was just missing the needle moving.....It stayed at zero. So I shut the car down and pushed it the 50 yards back into the garage.

Right when I got out of the car, I could see oil all over the drivers side fender of the car. I popped the hood and what I saw was very strange to me. The oil that was shot all over the fender was inside under the hood. But it was not all over the engine bay. It was only on, I would say about 15% of the right hand side (if you were looking into the engine bay) and only on the top of the engine. It was no where else in the engine bay. It obviously had hit the belts and slung all over the place, but again, it was only on the right hand side of the engine bay. We gave it a quick look see but saw nowhere, where the oil could be coming from.

All the other spulls I made in the break in process, the oil pressure gauge read as it should. I made 100000% sure I was fixed on that gauge the most. The engine made no noises, ticks, grinding noises or anything like that at all. As of right now, we have no idea where the oil is coming from. What I am hoping for is that an oil line maybe has a pin hole or came off and squirted oil on the belts and slung it all over the right hand side of the motor. So the mechanic that put the motor in will beat the garage tomorrow so maybe he will find something that is simple and easy to fix. That is was I am hoping for anyway. I'm glad it happened very close to the garage and not full throttle down a staright away at 140 MPH. So hopefully, they can find what is causing this to happen and maybe it will be something simple. I'll update when I know some more info on this issue.

Man, we were SOOOOOOO close to being done :(:notgood:

sounds like an easy fix.

sounds like an easy fix.

Man Andy, I really hope it is. It was weird that it just happened at the very end and no other time you know? Like I said, I hope its nothing major and maybe just a line that got punctured or came off or something that the mechanic will see and fix right away. FINGERS CROSSED :(

We have OIL PRESSURE !!!! Apparently there was a nut (and not me thank you) on the mian pulley area that had backed off that was causing oil to squirt out onto the belts and sling oil everwhere on the right side of the engine bay. It has been found, tightened and torqued to specs and good to go holding 10-15 PSI at idle. Even though oil was slung everywhere, it did not completely empty the oil out of the car. There was still quite a bit left in it, so they topped it back off and all seems well.

Woooooo, I am VERY glad it was something "simple" easy to find and fix and nothing major. I know it could have been major, I am just happy if it was going to happen, it happened where it happened and I cught in time before major damage could have occuerd. The car is FINALLY coming home tonight :rocks::rocks:

its seems that those types of problems always pop up after a major rebuild like you just went through. just keep an eye open and try to catch the problems before they becomes a BIG problems.

:thumb:

Will be doing that for sure Andy. Thanks man :thumb:

Well tha car is officially back home now which is very nice. Has 30 miles on it now and per Moto Mans procedure, the car should be good to go on break in now. Its ready for its 3rd oil change and 2 hard days of racing coming up. Ran the first 20 miles with the boost control off so it was only going to about 10 psi. Everything ran well. And yesterday we turned the boost controller back on ran another 10 miles. It is MUCH faster than the old setup and we have not even began to tune it any.

Just got my confimred E-Mail from the PCA for the event at Road Atlanta August 16 - 17. So if there are any DSMers in the Atlanta area, you guys should come on out and check out Road Atlanta. There will be all types of cars there (157 entries as of today) ranging from DSM's, Porsches, Panoz, Ferraris, Lambo's, Nobles etc. etc. It is always a good weekend for watching races.

That does stink that you wer suppose to get out then and you are still over there. Next time for sure though man. Stay say over there and thank you :thumb:

The car is looking good Eddie, real good.I can't wait to see what times that monster puts down.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I cant wait to see what the new setup is going to do at Road Atlanta. Not too much longer I guess, 3 more weeks or so.

Well, really just an update on whats been going on with the car these days. I have the enterior almost completely back buttoned up for a while now. All the switches and gauges are soldered up at the connections and ready to go. Gauges are not new they are the same old gauges I have had...I just went back through the conections and took the wire crimps off and soldered all the connections on everything. New switches are all in and working properly as they should.

Little issue that come up last night. I was under the car running some wires, I noticed over on my outer tie rod end on the drivers side something looked funny. And indeed it did...as the nut (with cotter pin missing) was not there AT ALL !!! I went through my manuls and sure enough, it was suppose to be there (joke of course). I turned the steering wheel to watch the tie rodend just fall out and my drivers side tire remain perfectly still as the passenger side did what it was suppose to. I went over to the passenger side under the car to find out what the bolt was suppose to look like....Only to find out that one I could take off with my fingers and again, no cotter pin in place. This upset me to no end and scared the crap out of me even more. I am SO glad I found this in the garage and not doing 150 mph down the back straight at Road Atlanta in a week and a half.

So its off to the autoparts store today to get 2 new tie rod ends and COTTER PINS. For the time remaining till Road Atlanta, I am going to be going through the car and nut and bolt this thing. Just figured I would share that with everyone on here. Not long now until there will be some action shots of the new setup and even possibly some video from Atlanta :D

good save man. :thumb: That would not have turned out nice.

No it would not have. A bit scary really Andy. But I have 2 new ones sitting in the garage now and ready go on. Like I said above, I will be going through the car and making sure everything is good to go for here on out. Nut & bolt the car. Using some bright pink nail polish to mark where the nuts & bolts should be tighten to. Things like that.
