With 2005 complete (and another championship yet), we're getting ready for another season. We began contacting our existing and prospective sponsors in the beginning of October to make sure we were dialed in for the new-year. We had some ups and downs and a couple of curve balls but we secured enough commitments to forge ahead toward a new season of racing. (But we're still looking!)

First thing we did was to assess the competition for this year and determined that 330 horsepower wasn't gonna cut it. We figured that we needed at least 450 to 500 hp to be competitive this year. We were fortunate to be contacted by Mitch from www.Engintecs.com to sponsor the very motor we needed. After numerous e-mails and telephone conversations we agreed on a 2.4 big bad boy engine. Mitch has years of racing experience on top of his supreme engine building skills. He took charge at the get go, explaining in depth all the essentials for a solid road racing motor. He's going to take a 2.4 block, with a Mitsubishi crank, dial in some custom Wiseco pistons, with Oliver rods, a breather of a head job with FP3 cams, and create a pure DSM racing motor that will outlast and anything on the track. This is all very expensive so Mike from www.Slowboyracing.com put in his commitment to help us with parts to make this a doable situation.

We contacted Robert from www.ForcedPerformance.com and asked if he'd like to come on board and dial in the turbo. Robert agreed with enthusiasm and is supplying a FP3052 that will take this engine build to the extremes that's necessary.

We realized that with all this big horsepower we're gonna have to revamp the cooling system so an e-mail to Brandon of www.Pwr-Performance.com will show a new 57mm core radiator showing up at my door.

We still need to deal with a larger front mount intercooler and its fitment within the front valence of the car. We're doing some productive talking with another potential sponsor, and things are looking good.

The car itself is still in pretty good shape from last year other than some front bodywork and paint from my crash with the wall. We'll do a little customizing at the same time of those repairs to help let car breath a little easier. We stripped the outside of the engine at this point and are ready to pull it out. New bearings on the wheels are in order, a caliper over-hall, new brake fluid, and pads are also on the agenda. We already broke open John Shepherds tranny at the end of last year so we know we're good to go in this department.

John Mueller from http://www.roadracechassis.com wants the car for a couple of days for some chassis adjustments and a new hardcore rear pan rod. Remember, the car is front wheel drive...

Once we get the motor shipped out here from Mitch, install it, and hook up to all the lifelines we're looking at plenty hours of Dyno time with Scot Gray at the helm.

There are about a hundred other things I haven't mentioned, but I'll add them on to this thread as we get to them.

By the way... we now have only four weeks to pull this off for our one and only testing session in the second weekend of February!

Racing... don't ya just love it?:rocks:

Oh yeah, I sent my race license renewal form for 2006 in last week...

One more thing... I pick up my 2005 championship trophy at the award ceremonies in a week and a half in Anaheim California. How cool is that?:thumb:

I know we're all more than happy that you'll be running again this year. I know it's been a very, very interesting venture, for you, to this point, but you pulled it off once again. Keep pulling those rabbits out of that hat!!! It's great that the vendors from the site or jumping in, with such vigor, to help you out this year. I know you'll do us proud again, in 2006.

Ginger, her brother (hopefully another DSM'er for NASA 2006) and I, will be there (NASA SoCal Banquet) to see you bring home the trophy for S/U 2005. We currently have one additional car that's in the process of being prepared, mine which is being refitted with a few new items for '06, and we're energetically looking for one more car, for this year.

Again, super job, on getting thing to jell, one more time.

Good luck getting everything together in time, Greg! Don't let Mitch talk your ear off, and you'll be very happy with the work you get back from him. :thumb:

Hey Ed, I know there's a big THANK YOU to "you" for making this build possible. You are the man:thumb:

Greg:D

Suparata: Glad to be part of this project but it wouldn’t have been possible, given the short time, without your help Ed.
Thanks.

Hey Mitch, we've got to get your camera fixed to show the progression of the build. I won't see it until it's all together and shipped here to sunny San Diego.:)

It'll be good to see you guys there in my corner of the ring. Fortunately my hotel is just accross the street;)

But you're N/T:tease:

We have to buy a new one because mine is history. Too bad cause I really liked it.

I'll be happy to take some pictures.

I take it the 2.4 block is/was Ed's block.

Steve

SWEET! (regarding photos) And yes "ED" is the major contributor:thumb: Just a little added pressure for me to succeed this yearOMG

I'm thinking of it as a real Tuners project:rocks:

It was a pretty easy decision to make...Greg has just a wee bit more pressure on than me. ;) Mitch had this crazy idea that I might say no or something. :p

I still can't believe you're going to try and get this together that quick; just ask Mitch how long I've been dragging my feet on the chassis preparation on my car. ;) (Had almost all the parts for, what, 6 months now? Bleh. I'm lazy.)

That sucks, it was a really nice camera. Bud stuck it in the press after you took some "compromising pictures" of him, didn't he? :D

Can't wait to see that monster at Road America Greg... umm you are going, yes?

A couple of questions--what type of FMIC are you going to use and how much will this hamper airflow to your radiator? With the massive increase in power, how much of your suspension do you plan on having to change in order to compensate and keep power to the ground or will you keep everything the same?

We'll see what sponsor wants to fund it...

CanadianTSi: Umm WOW
This thing is going to be a monster when it is done.

I can't figging wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rocks:

I'm designing an install of a PTE AS1025 31.5 x 8 x 3.5 that will sit high in the fascia (front body kit) at a 35 degree angle that keeps the radiator open (new 57mm PWR radiator) and with the flow of the splitter will kill two birds with one stone with air flow. You have to remember that the car is full race so I have much more room in my front end than stock. John Mueller has some plans chassis wise to help keep the meat on the ground...:sneaky:

i enjoy reading your threads, Greg. you have influenced me, and my automotive enthusiasm deffinatly leans towards road racing (in an area dominated by mostly 1/4mile times) because of it. i look foward to reading more of your adventures this season; keep up the good work and best of luck!

That's so cool... thanks! The thing that always gets me is when everybody is playing video games they're "road racing"... is there a quarter mile video game? ;)

Wow, your car is going from very good to very very awesome. Good luck with the build, guys. I am looking forward to reading and hearing about you in the next season.

i guess we are getting off topic, but you bring up an excellent point. maybe start a new thread? ROFL ..

Sounds like you've got a killer plan setup for this year Greg. Can't wait to hear about it all. Any news on whether or not the panhard bar that John's designing for you will be available to the public ?

Kyle, the panhard is a one off along with the rear (only one of two) Mitsubishi race anti-roll bar among other stuff. I don't know what John's plans are with his specail chassis set up stuff since the resurrection of Muellerized suspension systems. But I'll ask him for sure...

I'm in the middle of re-fiberglassing the front valence (body kit) from the wall incident. I'm also going to increase the size of the radiator/FMIC opening and add some re-inforcing for different mounting points. I received the 2.5 inch I/C piping today so I'll start accessing the routing layout tomorrow. I love fabricating up new ideas :thumb:

Working on front valence (body kit)... did thin sheet aluminum fillers attached to the body kit. I'll lay cloth fiberglas then glass it, followed by fiber bondo and lots of sanding. I'm making as much room as I can in the front to accomodate the new FMIC. The the exist lens mounts and the radiator cross bar mount will have to be removed...
