Greg, make sure you let us know if you make it to the midwest, I'd love to meet you and see your car in person.
Sign us all up for that; there's definitely a contingent out here in the midwest who'd love to come out and see you race. Do you know have any idea track you'd be running at?

(I really need to sign up for an HPDE sometime this year, once the car is back together...)

Hey Ed,

If we do the midwest race it would be for the "NASA Nationals" on September 11th thru the 17th at Mid-Ohio: http://www.nasanationals.com/home.html

And, you frigging better sign up for HPDE this year... after all the work we've done ;)

Greg:D

Let me know about that race, I'll do everything in my power to make it.

We have more engine build pictures!! Mitch at "Engintecs" is doing double over-time getting the motor built. What an absolute beautiful job he's doing, such precision, a perfect work of engine art!:rocks:

It looks like Mitch is hard at work! :thumb:
What all did he do to the head? Valve type and specs?
Is that your original intake in the pix?

:) Tom

P.S. We are making plans to hopefully attend the NASA Nationals at Mid Ohio in Sept.

hey, whats up this question is for either Greg & or terefic181, what engine platform are you guys using? i see that the car is listed as RS & when i check your motor pics it looks like the 4g63, it it still a NT motor beefed up or did you guys convert them to the turbo model?
thanks

All Laser RS's came w/ a 4G63. The "Turbo" part just indicates it's the turbo block.:thumb:

Well, this wasn't that productive of a week but I was able to get some stuff done. The front bumper (valence) is at the painters, and I received the PTE intercooler from "The Speed Factor". The PTE intercooler was about four inches longer than the one I used for mockup purposes so I had to move a bracket and fabricate some aluminum attachment arms. I just got finished sizing and cutting the I/C piping so tomorrow should bring some new light to the routing. I drove to Riverside and back this morning (4 hours of driving)and picked up two more sets of 275/40-17 Hoosiers from a fellow NASA racer real cheap! I also picked up a new Slim Line fan that will sit in front of the new FP-3052 turbo. It should be interesting to see how much room I'm losing with the 57mm PWR radiaitor...

Greg :)

looking awesome man! Can't wait to see the setup complete.

Thanks Marti, I'll definetly put the I/C to good use for that big HP motor that's going in the car... By the by, check out www.gregcollier.com and see "The Speed Factor" added to the sponsors link:thumb: You the man! :rocks:

Greg :D

So where I may have had a not so productive week, Mitch at Engintecs has assembled a long block. Lots of hours and major energy, ending up with a beautiful piece of machinery... :thumb:

Engintecs spent the weekend working on the new motor... Just getting the Moroso oil pan ready they spent a two days, a pack of welding rods, and almost a bottle of Argon welding the oil pan to have a thick enough flange after resurfacing. Then they spent almost day resurfacing it. Now they have to re-drill the holes, grind some more for clearance purposes and then check it for any other interference. We're talking one hell of a motor here :thumb:

Man they're putting one heck of a lot of work into that motor, Greg. Is everything else begining to fall in place?

:)

What, the BFH method of clearancing wasn't good enough? ROFL

Hey Mitch, now that you know what's needed to make the moroso pan fit on a 2.4, feel like doing another one? :D (Just kidding...damn, that looks like a lot of welding...)

I'm doing what I can do with what I've got. I/C just about done, oil cooler repositioned, new power steering cooler added, Slim line fans ready to be mounted on new radiator when that arrives???? I also got a new RaliArt short shifter that I had to modify (ridiculous) and then installed... Talked to Scot Gray, so he's ready when I am to tune and dyno the beast's heart rate...

i will be taking my bumper off tomorrow and looking into a v-mount. it would be cool to try and see it's performance on the street.

What's the V-MOUNT? Is there a female involved? :D

V-mounts are really popular on front engined rwd cars as they typically have more room under the hood. On a dsm you can see that things would be pretty tight. You have a partial v-mount, but in most times they use a larger core and a stock sized radiator which moves the radiator farther back into the engine bay than it normally would be. On a car like ours with the turbo only an inch or so away from the turbo as it is, there just really isn't room for the typical v-mount used on 240sx's, s200's, and other front engined rear wheel drive vehicles. To better illustrate I spent a couple of days working up this piece of artwork to better explain the concept of a v-mount. ROFL

Sorry Kyle, that's Y mount... no v's about itOMG

;)

It's ok, I blame ms paint for not accurately transferring my true artistic abilities from my mind to this image. anyways, back on topic.

I know it's getting tight for that testing weekend, does that mean you'll be heading into your first race blind or are there any other testing days available between now and the first race?

Mitch is shipping the motor out today from IL to CA... FP is having problems getting their 0-2 housing and Tail orders coming in so no turbo to date. I'm trying to see if I can't get on someone else's bandwagon for a day of testing, but without any time line as yet, I can't make any commitments. Oh the lfe of a racer... isn't it great :sosad:

I'm not the most patient person in the world either OMG

When I pulled off the knuckles to check the front bearings I was amazed will all the free play. There's no way the old bearings could withstand the new horsepower without something giving way. I was able to do a one day turn around at the machine shop and got the bearings pressed and oil seals changed.

The motor's on the plane for it's ride here to San Diego. We're looking at a Friday delivery and I'm getting excited. Robert at FP is also shipping the new 3052, o2-housing, dump pipe, etc. The only problem is with the Tial 44mm wastegate. It turns out Tial is out of them as are all the suppliers (back orders up to three weeks). Tial doesn't have the parts or materials to go into production until the second or third week of March. (Uhhhh... I'm suppose to be racing a Cal Speedway on the 10th) Robert is going to take one of his Tial fabriaction mockup bodies that he uses for sizing, and build me one (Thank God). One down and two hundred to go! There are so many details that still have to be addressed it's crazy. I finished fabricating and installing the new power steering cooler, and the new I/C pipes have been sized and are at the welders...

This weekend is gonna be nuts ;)
