A fellow DSM'er told me that an adjustable FPR is required with a bigger pump and injectors I plan on 1200cc's with a 255 pump. He also said that I dont need to spend much on a FPR a cheap one will work just fine ( Ebay ), thoughts on this?

I've always used an adjustable fpr when going with more fuel. I used an eBay one for a week then it broke so I ordered an aeromotive and never had issues after that.

Don't get an ebay regulator. You're risking too much. What if the spring pressure is inconsistent and doesn't give you a 1:1 rise?

A Fuelab can be bought for around $150.

I would use the older b&m fpr over a eBay one! I actually have the b&m one still in use on my eclipse motor working just fine I think it cost $20-30 LOL! I would go with a proven fpr (fuel lab, aero), you don't want to risk the fpr failing and your car leaning out and going boom!

The gauge stopped working, car still ran fine but I wouldn't recommend an ebay unit, buy once and never again. Aeromotive, fuel lab, Aem should do you fine and they really aren't that expensive.

I just dont see the point of paying so much for such a simple vacuum operated system. Call me a cheap skate I guess

Buy a cheap one and a few weeks later you can post up a thread about how you're having fuel issues. It's one less thing to worry about when buying parts that have been proven.

I bought the fuelab unit and had the gauge go out on that. Instead of making a deal with it to the company I just bought a higher quality gauge for I think like $30. Liquid filled of course, for vibration.

Oh, also it took about a year for the gauge to crap out on the fuelab. But I agree, I wouldn't go cheap on it.

Have fun chasing around a diaphragm issue due to a cheap AFPR. Sporadic issues with odd symptoms are not fun. Couple that with basically having the buy two AFPRs instead of doing it right the first time, all the time lost and frustration.. its just not worth it.

Buy a proper Aeromotive/Fuel Lab/MagnaFuel etc.

Take it from me: Do as others have said and buy the name brand. I have a cxracing afpr. Biggest problem, well the only problem so far, is the threads. It was tough to get rid of all the little leaks. about 5k miles on it and besides that its been good to me. But it was still about 100 bucks, came with an fittings and some braided line. Just spend the extra for the piece of mind. Im ditching mine for a name brand unit during the build coming up.

Just another lesson myself and others have had to learn the hard way and buy things twice.

You have obviously made up your mind about buying ebay junk. If your here to be reassure about buying it, this might be the wrong place. Try a honda forum for that.

They keep telling you to buy a tried and true unit Aero, Fuellab there is even a vendor that makes one.

Thats exactly what i thought when i ordered. You are correct: Its a very very simple device. But what you get when you spend the extra money is better fittings, fit, finish and probably a better diaphragm. The last i cant confirm as i havent taken mine apart and compared it to a fuel lab or equivalent.

You may be fine with a cheapy, then again, ya might not. Like i said, aside from leaks mine has been performing its essential function(raising fp on a 1:1 ratio) just as it should. Its not a lot extra to get a better one.

Areomotive units are great. Make sure to get a boost compensating AFPR (increase fuel pressure with boost) for best performance.

As opposed to what? A 2:1 rising rate? hahaha just fn with ya. Yes, it is assumed that a forced induction afpr will rise 1:1 unless otherwise stated.
the 420a guys use a 12:1 for insane fuel pressure when they dont have a tuning solution yet.

OP: IIRC, this is what i got. It looks exactly like this and if youre hell bent on ebay stuff then atleast you know someone who has tried this one. I really am contradicting myself by linking this LOL. But like i said, it sounds like you're ebay afpr or bust. Best of luck.

No I haven't decided yet but Im not a one sided person, I heard a lot of testimony of buying "high quality" but no other reason then "well never had a problem" yet Iv heard the same thing from A FEW people who haven't had any problems with the cheap ones....don't be so quick to judge just because some people like to look at things objectively...

Thanks or the helpful post :thumb:

It's not just a "simple vacuum device" .. this is not like choosing an airfilter or shift knob.

This is a component that is critical to fuel metering.

No.... it IS a simple device. But yes, it does control a critical function of the fuel system. It can be both.

I forgot to mention: if the world doesnt end and youre diaphragm doesnt split causing afrs to go super lean yadayadayada, the one thing i would worry about, again Ill say this, is LEAKS. Leaks can cause fires which are way more expensive than any diaphragm or afpr. That is the biggest reason i would pass on the ebay afpr, OP. The fit and finish i was talking about, it plays a role in how well it handles vibrations and normal heat cycles it sees from the rest of the engine bay. I just figured i got one of the "good" ones. Pushed my luck far enough though. Im buying a nice fuel lab for the next build.

Sorry to harp on you, just want to make sure if you buy this thing check it constantly for leaky threads and the hose it comes with is not that great either. Ive said enough

Did you not see the word "just" in that sentence? The language I chose implies it is both simple and critical.. yay reading!

Quality is the main consideration here. I have had to twice diagnose AFPR issues on other cars, it's not fun. The symptoms are inconsistent and varied.

Both the result of using cheap sh!t. So they suffered considerable down time, frustration and paid nearly double for the same part.

Edit: Got your love note .. I don't have to "leave a thread" and there's nothing here a moderator would do for you regarding my comments.

When you ask for advice on a public forum, and don't like the responses.. don't play victim because you volunteered.

If you just want people to re-affirm your want to be a cheapskate you came to the wrong place.

Hey bud RELAX ...I think everyone here understands your point, If your that worried about what I decide take this for what its worth EVERYTHING I'v purchased so far has been name brand or used from another DSM'er in the classifieds...(which isn't perfect by any means) You dont have to "fight" everyone.

I've been using a Weapon R AFPR since I started modding, probably about 20k miles. On the first installation something went wrong and I had to open it up and re-seat the diaphragm in the correct position. Besides that it's worked fine.

I actually just looked up the product and on Weapon R's website they say it's for N/T applications, but on a couple of vendor websites they say its great for turbo apps up to 1000hp.

Thoughts?

I had a cheap ebay one on my 86 monte for 3 hrs before it crapped out. I wasted 40$ on it. The only good thing it had was the gauge. Other then that junk. The diafram didnt leak the spring bent cause the ball to get lodged then I got that fixed. Then it started leaking out the sides where it bolted the diafram in. I wouldnt trust a ebay one at all.
