Hey all, just a quick question.
Okay so I have a 6 bolt swapped 2g (mod list should be up to date) stock cams and stock intake. I don’t get any kind of boost below 3k with max boost around 4500-5kish. This seems a little slow to me for being a green. Any thoughts? Right now it’s a pump gas tune 26 psi 6-7ish timing advance

Yes base timing is on the money. While pump tuning we started to see knock with more timing thrown at it. I’m going to a flex fuel soon with a better front mount to deal with knock

What kind of power are you making at 26psi?
Ecm link says like 340 or so.. not that much for that much boost.. I’ll get a fresh log tomorrow and update but my tuner says it’s pretty much all I can go with the crap intercooler and limited fuel. Btw I prefer not to name names

What size fmic and 93 octane, I presume? As a comparison, I went 11.50@120 on an old school Green (50 trim comp wheel), stock ecu, afc, 93 octane.25psi. But I did have 272’s and an aftermarket intake manifold. This was also almost 20 yrs ago. You got lots of power left.

92 octane and the intercooler is a mishimoto r line 24x12 with a 4 inch core. IAT’s just skyrocket after a couple short pulls. Like I said I will be going to e85 and gsc s1 or s2 cams (haven’t decided yet) I was just wondering if the spool is to slow? My boss has a gt3582r t3 single scroll on his evo and says he gets 30 psi right at 4K if not a little sooner

I’m not entirely sure tbh. I believe it’s a 8cm housing. I couldn’t find a ton of information on it before I bought it but as far as I can tell it’s like a red wheel with a green hot side. Idk for sure tho. Pretty much it’s just over a green but not quite a red

That seems like a realistic rpm target although I might expect "max boost" to be more towards the 4500 than 5000. Its very dependent on the health of the motor, cams and how the cams are degreed.

Read this thread. Lots of great info on the turbo. Looks like your tune Needs some work.

Another good thread

I’ve read through both of those a few times I they’re talking about 35+psi by the time I hit 25 psi. Compression is a bit on the low side, about 125 across the board so maybe that has something to do with it? What really gets me is my boss is hitting 30 psi almost 1k faster on his gt35r. I would imagine I would spool faster. We’re both 2.0l and he has 272/272 cams

There are a lot of factors when it comes to spool. Compression could definitely be part of it. 125 seems pretty low. Ignition timing during spool can affect it. You can try to increase or decrease in the spool up range to see if it makes a difference. Turbine housing can make a difference. The FP 8cm housings tend to be a little laggy on the Greens and it's debatable whether it results in more power over the older 7cm housings. My 7cm Green HTA spools quicker than what you are saying yours does. There also could be something mechanically wrong. Have you verified mechanical cam timing just to rule out everything? A slipped tooth will still run, but could cause issues like this.
Exhaust can make a difference. Are you running a 3" exhaust all the way back? What about a cat? What exhaust manifold are you running? Stock, FP, or something else? GSC S2's will probably make things worse just so you know. S1s or HKS 264s should net you nearly no increase in spool compared to stock with increased power.
Just try to rule out each of these things one at a time.
Also, does your boss's evo have mivec? If so, you aren't comparing apples to apples as cam adjustment can have a huge affect on spool.

Yeah, a gt35r on 2.0L is not making 30psi at 4k rpms.

Buschur's old car with a 2.3L made 30psi at 4k on a 3076...not even a 3582. My smaller htz76 made 30psi at 4400.

I’m not entirely familiar with the Green XL. What turbine wheel does it have? TD06H? Clipped? 8cm housing?
76HTA (Red) compressor on a 55mm TD06 turbine in a 7cm2 housing (later 8cm2).

Many of them also used the Subaru compressor housings (see photo) which lacked the anti-surge porting which was strange considering it was a larger compressor than a standard Green for a DSM and smaller turbine wheel/housing than a standard DSM Red, which would theoretically encourage surge. They weren't available long for whatever reason.
