Cannot decide what setup to run for this summer...

HX-35 BEP .55 external 38mm WG off the o2 housing

Vs.

DSM Green XL (Journal bearning 76HTA) external gate off o2

Price for the fp turbo is a bit higher.

Hoping to make 400whp range this summer at around 25psi w/o meth on 93 pump...
looking for room to grow for next summer too when I get methanal setup, then ill be aiming for 500whp.

Tons of guys making 500+ on the hx35, thats why its so tempting...

But then again the FP flows nicely, and its new and interesting, not a lot of people running these yet.

Please help me guys LOL.

The Green XL flows more, but is more expensive and spools a bit later. The HX35/.55 combo spools a bit quicker and is typically cheaper, but 500hp is a stretch.

400whp on 93 with a bolt on housing is not going to be a simple affair, itll take work and tuning. In the summer its much tougher to fight off knock on pump gas obviously. But no doubt it can be done with the right setup. Youll get there alot easier on e85 or even a 10 or 20% blend of e85. I can say the holsets are cheaper to buy and probably cheaper to rebuild. My vote is hx35

Just noticed, youre from up north, your summers arent near as hot as down here. Youll get your 400 in the summer. The difference between 100* ambients and 30* and lower in the winter for me is big. The car wasnt nearly as fun to drive last summer

I ran the 7Blade HX-35 in the BEP .55 housing for over 2 years. I loved it! About 53-54 lb/min is the max I got in that housing. I ran the 11.4 @122 with 26 psi on that setup. I ran 50% E-85 back then. I still haven't beat that damn time! :banghead: I hit full boost at around 3900 rpms. Adj cam gears, E-85 and plenty of ignition advance in the spool up range really make the turbo come alive in the low and mid range. It is hard to keep it out of boost!

I'm on the T3 setup with the BEP .70 A/R housing now on the same turbo. Haven't been to the track yet, but I am flowing 58-60lb/min now and looking forward to it!

At what boost level were you seeing these numbers?

Ya that's also another thing I like about the hx35 setup, I can always switch to a t3/ vband setup later on down the road for more air.

Although the fp is apparently rated at 59lbs/min.

You can buy the fp turbo, and have it installed, and running next week. Or, you can piece together a holset system, with a used turbo, for about the same price, over a months time.

I don't know I got my wh1c for free and spent another $60-70 on the rebuild kit then another $250-300 on the bep housing. So for under $400 if you play your cards right you can have sick turbo setup and extra cash for other mods to go with it.

I believe I ran 33-35 psi on the BEP .55 A/R housing. I think I tried 36-37, but it tapered to 29-30 by redline.

I ran 36-38 psi on the .70 A/R when I was seeing 58-60 lb/min. I spiked to 44 a couple times and started pushing coolant, so I'm swapping HG and hope to be back up and running this weekend!

What's your max boost? full boost by 3900 rpm? tell me you have video or logs to prove this.

Update: Well I pieced together a hx35 setup from a member on here, fresh rebuilt hx35(Justin rebuild) never been ran yet, bep .55, as well as a tial 38mm I believe bolted onto a nice open dump o2 housing. Cot daym. Got hella lucky with this find and good timing too haha. I'm ####ing pumped for summer now.

Thanks everyone who chimed in!

It's the smart way to go in my book bro. I'm about done with my engine and will be running my wh1c (hx35) setup aswell, can't wait to make some pulls. If you end up switching turbine housings an don't need the o2 housing and stuff id be interested in purchasing. I have a .55 bep housing but internally gated for now, I also have a holset 18psi adjustable acuator, so I'm hoping running in the mid 20's for boost should be fine. But once I up the boost I know ill need to change the wastegate setup. Have fun bro

I have a fp green and i think its great! Although i like the hx35 for reasons already stated. Fabrication isnt Difficult with tools, education and good ol common sense. Id probably prefer the hx35 but like i said i love my green.

I'm sure I can dig up some logs from late 2010 when I was running the .55bep housing. I'll check when I get home from work this afternoon. I can't remember the boost level I was running at that spool level. I don't think I ever ran lower than 25-26 psi on this turbo.

Edit: I'm pretty sure these logs were with the .55 A/R BEP. The airflow isn't calibrated and they aren't the best pulls, but it shows the spool up I was getting.

You guys think it's worth selling my 8 blade and finding a 7 blade? The 8 blade just sounds so disappointing compared to the 7. (capable of more hp/air flow with a better housing, quicker spool with smaller compressor wheel)

Because I have higher hp plans in the future.
