Do you guys sell eproms as well?Do you plan on doing the non eprom to eprom mod for the 2g's as well?

Do you mean EPROM ECUs? If we have them in stock, yeah. But we don't always have a steady supply.

We're still going to try, yes. The problem is that the footprint of the 2G non-EPROM CPUs is very different and MUCH more difficult to work with than the 1G non-EPROM CPUs. So the whole issue here is with the physical adaptation of that processor footprint, not so much the technical feasibility of the task. We full well know how to do it. It's just a problem finding a way to physically attach a board to the CPU pads on the PCB in a secure and not so costly manner. I've seen adapters for this go as high as $300-$500 a piece!!! Just for the adapter piece, nothing else. Yeah, no thanks.

now my question is , i had very good luck with v2 for my 2g,i sold the car with it in it. now i picked up another car and want to re-install. once v3 is out,am i still able to buy v2 or will it be discontinued?

Steve's right. We are no longer selling V2. However, we are considering a stripped down version of V3 for those that don't want/need the full V3 release. The stripped down version would cost less, of course, and would be upgradeable with a firmware download to a full V3 release later. It's just one of the considerations on the table at the moment.

Dee and/or Tom, how is the 8.9" screen for tuning? Tom, I'm curious as to your thoughts on it since you've been using the new software. I'm worried about running out of screen real estate with logging a lot of values. It would be nice to have a small and light laptop, but I like the screen size of a typical 15.4" laptop. The other thing is the smaller ones are a good bit cheaper.

I just can't seem to find a cheap used laptop in good condition.

Screen space isn't bad. Track pads in general are annoying, but I have a Logitech VxNano for use inside. Very nice combo, IMO. I'm more than willing to give up a little screen space for the convenience of this laptop. For comparison, I also have an HP nx6310, but I never use it anywhere near the car. I hate lugging those big laptops around inside the car.

The Dell Mini 910 that I have has a big touchpad and doesn't have any function keys which makes typing a lot easier since the keys aren't tiny. The only downside is that it only has a 16GB SSD "hard drive" and Windows XP Home (which comes preloaded) takes about 5GB on a regular install. I'm using a Kingston 16GB SDHC for all my pictures, videos etc. Dell will swear that the laptop will only take 1GB of RAM, but I'm running a 2GB RAM chip and the computer is now extremely fast! I researched every mini note on the market and chose this one as the best. I wanted the Lenovo S10 but got tired of waiting for it.

Thanks for the input Tom and Dee. I used to hate the touchpads as well, but I've gotten used to it. Plus, I think it would be kind of hard to use an external mouse in a car.

Also, I'm not too worried about hard drive space since tuning will be the main function of the laptop. I don't think I could get one that small as my "main" laptop. Plus I have a work laptop and a few other desktops that'll be fine.

I can't wait for the software to start working with smartphones :thumb:

My buddy is using the little sony Slide laptop. Screen is real small but it works out just fine with the touch screen.

I understand if you guys dont want to show us the price yet. But its so close, I didnt think you guys would still be trying to find a price. Hopefully its not to outragious.

Hopefully its not to outragious.
Was the old price "outrageous"? ;)

I don't see why they would unjustifiably raise the price. I never felt like I paid to much for V2. If it costs more, well that's R&D, new features, etc.

don't know if you all now of this double din in dash nav-system. but here is the link and i am trying to pick one up when ever it comes available and hopefully dsmlink v3 can run on it. here is the link

Azentek - Atlas CPC-1000

i just hope v3 will be compatible with vista or the new windows os???

I use the VX nano as well. Nice and small and works just fine on my pants leg. My fingers a real rough on the tips (from guitar I guess) and touchpads and I do not get along.

Just receieved this email:

Yes, we will be able to offer 1G non-EPROM conversions with V3.

We're expecting to resume sales mid-December.

Dam I thought it was a cool idea until i saw the price for one. How conveniant would that be, you would basicaly have your laptop with you at all times. It sure would make for a nice install. If it is compatible I think that I want to trade in my toshiba satellite for a mini laptop.

I just heard from my buddy that V3 will be out in two weeks or so, too. That's awesome....just in time for Christmas!

I think I know what will be at the top of every DSMer's list THIS Holiday Season....

What I want for Christmas:
- EPROM ECU
- ECMLink

:D

I understand if you guys dont want to show us the price yet. But its so close, I didnt think you guys would still be trying to find a price.
As I mentioned, we were still considering a few options, including the option of offering a "detuned" V3, for example, for those that don't need all the features yet but want to reserve the option of upgrading to the full package later. And we still may do that, but we've decided we won't do it as part of the initial release. Putting together a new package would delay the release and we just don't want that.

So, with that decision made, final pricing on a complete, new V3 is $595. Upgrades will run $175. GM MAF cables will run $75. We're working on a completely new website as well. So once that's done, we'll get all the latest info and pricing up.

EDIT (more pricing details): 1G non-EPROM to EPROM conversion $75 (if purchased with an ECMLink package). We're not sure we can price the non-EPROM to EPROM conversion reasonably outside a package purchase. If we did offer that service separate from a package purchase, it'd probably have to run at least $125. Those boards are not cheap to make and it takes a good bit of manual labor to rework the ECU's PCB.

We can also offer the V3 cables separately if anyone needed a spare or wanted to use the cable with something else. We can price the V3 cables at $65. That's a custom native USB-based solution with direct connections to the car's diagnostic connector all in a complete molded package. Internally, the board design has complete opto-isolation between the car and laptop (ensuring no possible damage on either side from the other) and is entirely assembled with surface mount components. So, basically, these are top quality cables; literally the best we think can be built.

thats an awesome price thanks for all the hard work you guys. but does that include the use of a non-eprom 1g?
