twdorris, please stop wasting your time responding to hakcenter and focus your time on more pressing matters, watering plants or washing your dishes or maybe pumping out v3 ecus :)

hakcenter you made your point, great dont buy one. yay for you.

I am looking foward to v3 comming out. and have a question for twdorris.
I have v1 in my 2g, (it came with the car when I bought it last winter) and want to buy v3. The car is down for the winter for a build up, when can I send the ecu in and or what do I need to do to get this thing upgraded.

Thank you,
Barnes

You have the OBDII adapter as well, yes? And it's one of ours? Please check against this page if you're not sure.

counterfeitcopies [ECMTuning - wiki]

If so, you're all set then. I just have to check because there really are very few original V1 packages left out there. There are far more counterfeit V1 packages than there are true packages from us.

Since the ECU is already socketed for the V1 package, you don't need to send the ECU in at all. You'll just need to place an upgrade order (when the new site is ready) and send in your chip and adapter. We'll send back a completely new package (new chip, new V3 device, and a new native USB cable).

For those of us who have V2 in our only daily driver. Is there any way to get V3 w/o disabling the car for a few days? My car would be COMPLETELY undriveable without Link at this point.
Yeah, we expected this issue would come up pretty quick. But we're not sure what to do about it. For 2G guys, we might be able to do without the chip at first. But we absolutely have to get the adapter back up front. For 1G guys, other than charging a core, there's just nothing we can do. We have to get the memory board, chip, and cable back up front for the 1G upgrade.

The only alternative I see is charging for a full package up front and then crediting the difference later when the other parts are returned. But it's REALLY not what we want to do. There are so many complicated situations that fall out from that it's not even funny. People with lost packages, people sending back broken parts, people sending back a box of rocks, people filing false claims with PayPal or trying to convince their credit card companies to reverse charges. Ugh, we've seen it all.

Yeah, core charges just aren't happening. We had talked about it here before and I'm just sorta talking myself right back to the same conclusion. We either create a massive headache for ourselves dealing with several different individual situations or we keep it plain and simple and just ask the user to deal with his own situation however he can.

I think that is reasonable, anyone who has enough mods that they can't run the car for a bit without dsmlink is going to break the car every once in a while. When that happens it becomes a perfect opportunity to upgrade with little/no downtime depending on how fast your replacement parts come in and when you can fix the car.

Next question then would be what type of turn arround time would we be looking at?
No idea. Sorry. Assuming we get a nice slow stream of customers, we can get packages out the same day we receive the cables and/or memory boards. But I have absolutely no idea what's actually going to happen yet...

Regardless of if it's one day or a few days, the turn around time for the product is still good (once it's in motion, that is!). Tom fixed my cable twice due to my power inverter for the laptop being stupid and I couldn't ask for better service. I've waited this long for V3, so a couple more months won't be a big deal, aside from the fact that the car is in the garage anyway.

Well, we're going to try. We've got a guy dedicated full time to building up the hardware now. Well, full time between the ECU repair work and socketing. :(

Thomas Dorris

So do you think you are going to offer the ecmlink
upgrade to those that already have V2 through the link forum first?

LOL No, that would be a nightmare to manage. We have to simplify the process as much as possible.

Thomas, thanks for taking the time to answer questions here, as I know how busy you are. The DSM community definitely appreciates it.
Hey there. No, seriously, I appreciate the fact that questions are being asked! That's always a good sign.

Nice looking car, BTW! Looks like a 1G version of mine! Too bad you're not closer...I haven't seen a 1G at the road course in 4+ years. :(

You need to post some photos here in our gallery so the DSM world can see what the DSMlink king has in his garage.

;)

So the way I understand this is that v3 will natively support the Mac OSX via the new USB interface cable? So that means that I can now use my MacBook Air for tuning and don't have to lug around the 10lb Dell.

So when does the wireless OBD interface come out so I don't even have to plug in a cable? :p

I played around with a blue tooth version of DSMLink a couple years ago. It wasn't as "cool" as I expected and the blue tooth serial port implementations at the time were really bad. We should probably try again with V3 and see if it's any better. Particularly with the PocketPC app.

WOW!!! I am thrilled to see all these new features! I was wanting to purchase a DSMlink a few months ago, but business started getting tough and money was low :( One quick question I have is can this ECU chip be added to any Non Eprom ECU? I have a 93 Eagle Talon TSI A/T with a 92 Eagle Talon M/T Non-Eprom ECU in it. If this can be done, it will save me a bunch of hassle trying to find another ECU!

Theres a company who is making an iPhone data logger that uses a wireless OBDII adapter. There may have been some advancements since you guys have tried :sneaky:

Speaking of iPhone, how about an iPhone version LOL

There was talk of this on the link forums, I'm not sure how it turned out with v.2. Hopefully someone will be able to get it done!!! That would be much easier than carrying around a laptop with me.

I cant wait for V.3 to come out!

Any 1G turbo model non-EPROM ECU, yes. Even the 1990.

Thomas Dorris

Do you guys know the pricing on this feature for the non eproms? Also did you guys mention the price to buy v3 new. Im really looking to know how much I have to save for christmas. Kids might have to get a little less presents this year, LOL. J/K.

Post number 149 when he was replying to you.:)

The flash module is completely separate from the non-EPROM conversion. We're hoping to offer the non-EPROM conversion for $75 as long as we're doing it as part of an ECMLink purchase. I'm not even sure we break even at that point to be honest. But like the Keyspan adapters we provide now at below our cost, this is a service we're willing to subsidize a bit to keep ECUs reasonably accessible to users.
