As Tom mentioned before, the non-eprom conversion is completely separate from the ECMLink purchase and will be around $75 if bought at the same time as ECMLink.

They can repair it for you. Not sure about price though.

Yeah, we can certainly repair ECUs as well. Since damage can vary widely, so does pricing. We have to see the ECU to give an accurate estimate. Caps replacement we typically throw in for free while we're doing socket work, FWIW.

Well thats a good price you guys releasing it at and I'm very happy. I will be getting it asap when you release it. So much cheaper than buying an eprom and maf-t to run with link. I can sell my maf-t/safc and that would make the full v3 kit with eprom conversion, gm cable around $450. Cant beat that.

Hey Tom, I've been trying to tell my girlfriend what V.3 is and does for the last month and to convince her to get it for me for christmas. I don't want to see all my hard work and hours upon hours of trying to convince her that I "need this for christmas" go to waste...

Seriously though, great job with keeping everyone informed on here as well as link forums. I can only inagine how hard it would be to come out with a completely new product, have to physically make cables, re-write everything in the computer, re-design a new website AND keep in touch with the public. Yea I'm still convincing the fiance for dsmlink. After looking around my black safc is selling on ebay for 200 or more. So I told here If I sold my old parts dsmlink would only be $400. That sounded a lot better than $750 I told her the first time.

A simple socket job is a flat rate of $35 plus return shipping cost. Return shipping cost can be estimated off our ordering page.

We can also offer the V3 cables separately if anyone needed a spare or wanted to use the cable with something else. We can price the V3 cables at $65. That's a custom native USB-based solution with direct connections to the car's diagnostic connector all in a complete molded package. Internally, the board design has complete opto-isolation between the car and laptop (ensuring no possible damage on either side from the other) and is entirely assembled with surface mount components. So, basically, these are top quality cables; literally the best we think can be built.

So is the cable no longer a "special" part in terms of being necessary to use dsmlink? As in besides the ecmlink cable being higher quality an evoscan cable could be used or vice versa?

If so is there a discount in not using the cable if we already have a different one? Perhaps it wouldn't be feasible for a discount but it might be nice to be able to use it with other cars.

Correct, the chip is now the important part of ECMlink. Since you can buy a spare cable, obviously this can be obtained by almost anyone (not sure if he's only allowing purchases by current owners or not).

So you want to know if you can use some other cable with ECMlink, other than the one they produced for it? I highly doubt anything else will work.

Just because the ECMLink cable will work with other products, that doesn't mean other cables (by default) will work with ECMLink.

Similar to the situation where not all rs-232/usb adapters will work with DSMLink.

Probably. But since that wasn't an originally intended use of these cables, it might require some "tweaking" to work right. I'd have to play around with one of these cables to see for sure. For example, that separate 12-pin "reflash" connector thing in the car...that has to be activated somehow. Maybe it's sufficient to simply ground the pin, but I don't know for sure.

That depends on whether you want to buy a new V3 package or upgrade your V2. If you want to upgrade your V2 package, then we have to get it back. That includes the chip and cable as well as the OBDII adapter for 2Gs and the memory board for 1Gs. The upgrade is $175 and a new package is $595.
