Im trying to do what Link will let me. The wiki said that Speed Density is one of the firmware updates they will be doing. I don't think you anwsered the question though. Will ECMlink be able to control "venting" or will i still have to use the translator?

Yes you can vent but have to install the maf at the UICP. They where just letting you know of the issues when you run it up there. But those issues are the same with the maft anyways. It also says it has features to tune it out.

Upgrade from V1 or V2 to V3 will run $175. You send us your cable and chip and we basically send you back a whole new package. New cable, new software, new V3 device.

The GM MAF cable...we honestly haven't talked much about final pricing on that. It's a lot of manual hand assembly (pins, connectors, ribbon cable, shielding, heatshrink, testing, etc.). A lot. I guess we could expect it to be in the $60-$70 range.

Personally, I would only install a GM MAF in the upper IC if I absolutely, positively had no other choice. The signal (straight from the MAF itself) when under boost is really erratic. I definitely would not install it there just to hear the BOV noise or to help with blowing off an IC pipe.

The only IC coupler I've blown off in the last 5 years was one of the ones I had installed for the GM MAF.... :( And even then, my solution to driving back into the pits was simply to disconnect the MAF from the harness and let the ECU run on simulated airflow. If the ECU doesn't see a valid airflow signal, it simulates one from engine speed and throttle position. And it actually works very well, assuming the car had been dialed in reasonably well before and you aren't trying to build boost like that (which you can't anyway when a coupler blows off). IMO, the best solution to the IC coupler problem is (1) don't have IC couplers blowing off in the first place if at all possible and (2) if one does, just disconnect the MAF and drive back to the pits. I wouldn't compromise the most important signal going into the ECU just so I could tolerate an IC blowing off or just so I could vent the BOV.

As for venting a BOV, V3 does include an airflow deceleration clamp that may actually help with the vented BOV situation anyway, regardless of where or which MAF is installed. The function was really intended to help with the stalling when coming to a stop problem, but the symptoms between the two are pretty similar. So the solution may be as well. Only time will tell as more people try it out on their cars.

My hero. I had grown fond of nudging the throttle, though.

:)

A MAFT in general isn't "ideal", but supposedly you can tune around it. I'm still working on that. :p

Blow-through causes additional issues, but you can vent your bling-off valve.

So now that you have pricing sorted out are we looking at a before christmas release or too soon to tell? Thanks for everything you guys!

I know right, this stalling crap is annoying and didnt know others had a huge issue with it. I cant wait to see if this fix's that problem. I will be running an evo 3 maf when I get the link so NO MORE GM MAF!! I think I will destroy it with a grenade or something. I will run that till speed density.

You should have a package deal for the upgrade and gm maf cable, a slight discount :)

So for speed density you will need a map and iat?
Right. And if you happened to already have our GM MAF cable anyway at the time you wanted to switch over to speed density, you can simply connect the MAP and IAT to that cable and it'll buffer the MAP signal properly and connect the IAT directly to the harness for you. That's the idea anyway.

If you're not familiar with the need for a buffer circuit on certain inputs, this page has more details. I think the 1G baro input should be OK, but the 2G baro would cause problems with a number of popular pressure sensors, including the GM sensors. There is a 2G baro work around, though, that would negate the need for a buffer circuit on that one input. But that's starting to get a bit off topic. :coy:

In fact, that's probably how we'll make a first stab at calibrating the VE tables for speed density. We may run with a GM MAF but collect SD data at the same time. The VE table should fall out on its own from that data.

Any idea on how much the non eprom with the flash installed will cost? Will it be cheaper than getting a eprom which is $150 and up?

Hmm, well now should I run my gm maf with this or just go with a 2g maf that I just bought to run dsmlink. I guess I'll have to wait to see how it all pans out. I can't wait I'm very excited.

The flash module is completely separate from the non-EPROM conversion. We're hoping to offer the non-EPROM conversion for $75 as long as we're doing it as part of an ECMLink purchase. I'm not even sure we break even at that point to be honest. But like the Keyspan adapters we provide now at below our cost, this is a service we're willing to subsidize a bit to keep ECUs reasonably accessible to users.

If you read my post above regarding the GM MAF, I'd stick with the 2G (or go with an EVO8) unless I had a really big reason to run the GM. The GM MAF setup certainly works and has worked for years. But it's also certainly not ideal by any means.
