wow i had no idea my car was so light, its the lightest one on there. and ill admit, im a small "young person" (yes kid shutup) but my question is this- how much will body weight actally affect your 1/4 mile? i'v never seen a fat person racing.

I dont know if I would put it like that considering the average american is over weight and out of shape and considering that this forum consists of the average american LOL.. ( Not including me of course ) Supposably, every 100lbs you reduce in weight from your car equals .1 off your 1/4 time, so say I weigh 150 and I raced my car and did a 12.5, then someone who goes and runs my car and weighs 350 with all other variables the same ( Which is impossible but just to give you an idea.) he'd run 12.7 due to being 200bls heavier... Well theoretically thats how it works, I dont know how true or accurate 100lbs per every .1 is though... Maybe someone else could chime in.

Im missing: AC, power steering, front headlight motors, all sound dampening materials, front crash beam, rear windshied wiper and sprayer motor and you guys are still way lighter than me.

Perhaps because I Have a laser, which is the lightest version of DSMs.:rocks:
How heavy are those rims on your car JayRolla. Did you remove any back seating stuff,
did you take off all your heat shields under the car? What about the padding under the carpet? it all adds up.

There are gold brackets holding up the dash that bolt to the tube that crosses the car, I found that the only ones that are really necessary are the two that bolt to the far sides of the car by the doors, and the bracket that goes to the glove box latch. Taking the other five out is good for about five pounds.

There's a bracket under the intake manifold that some think isn't necessary that's three pounds. Balance shaft elim, don't just leave the front shaft in- both shafts add up to a nice 7 pound weight loss.

I actually dont know what they weigh. They are 16" aluminum Enkei's. Not too heavy. Full panels and seats in the back, all heat shields are missing and the padding is missing. Its all the stuff the original owner did. He went pretty far with it. He even cut out all the support under the hood, but I replaced that after a buddy sat on it and crushed it. LOL

Well you can lose another 50lbs by removing the back seats, the brackets, the rear seat belts and if theres any sound deadner still under there and that would bring you down to 2830 and then just scrape off another 30 lbs to give you 2800 ( thats without driver right? )
Mines is 2850 with me in it im 2700 w/o driver.

I was just curious if any of you got weights on your car.

i got some lowering bricks in the back. got to keep it gangster.ROFL

(not really, but i actally had a friend do this)

but i thought having weight was a good thing, doesnt give you more traction?

DSMs in general, are all porky.
The curb weights are listed in the owners manual. If I remember right, my 95 GST is a bees dick from 3000lbs.

well my car is pretty heavy i guess i want to get it down as low as possible with out taking out the dash, leather seats are going to be replaced with Cobreau Racing seats, and seat belts will be removed also im planning on running harnesses

Where o where do you get one of these?
That weight sounds super low. What options does the car have?

He must have a front drive turbo car.

Where did you get it or used it?

Got it new from intercomp for use at my dad's shop. It doesn't make much sense to buy a set for yourself unless you race competitively or own a shop... you might be able to find a shop locally that will balance your car for you, most shops around here charge $200 just to put it on the scales, more if it needs adjustment.

$1500 for the lowest scale ill pass... eek
No, the economy scale sets aren't that expensive. I sell them everyday for $950. I have some sets that go for $2500 as well. Unless you do alot of chassis work, it probably wouldn't be much of a benefit in spending the cash on a set.

I know Buschur has a set though, because I've seen Shep's car on them at the shop.

Take out that sound deadener as well. It will scrape off fairly easily. A trick I used was to borrow about 5 cans of compressed air from work and freeze the sound deadener. It comes up easier when frozen.

Also rip out the padding on the bottom of the carpet.

Interestingly, you have more deadener than my car came with..

I didn't remove the deadener in front of my feet just to help with any possible excessive heat radiating through the floor and making it uncomfortable in the summer.

I also remove the abs because it wasn't working anyway along with the 2 big metal panels..

Other things I've removed:
Entire A/C system, balance shafts, battery tray, charcoal canister and components, fog lights, cruise control, ABS module, everything in hatch, rotor dust shields, rear seats and latches, rear seat belts, metal panel under rear seat, rear wiper assembly, etc.

Hopefully I'll get it on a scale after that. There is a free truck weighing scale about 3 miles from my house and also one at a nearby metal scrapyard. I think that one would be more accurate.

Yea i was mentioning sound deadner and carpet padding earlier in the thread. Theres a lot of nooks and cranny type things that add up in weight.

Housegsx, do you recall how much your brake rotor dust shields weighed?
Im about to put new Hawk Hps brake pads on my car and was considering taking them off while I was down there depending on how much weight it shaves as I know of a few guys who run all year long without them... Any bad results after doing that?

Ive thought about cutting metal out of the floors in places that dont support weight and adding a decent layer of sheet metal were was cut out and welding it in; and another member on this site did it to his 2g and dropped a lot of weight. On the honda boards a guy who did this *( yes on a street car ) dropped more than 100 lbs alone just out of cutting out metal from the chasis, and I dont see the flooring causing an significant difference in an accident... Dont know if im going to go that far and do it, but the idea still is flowing thru my head. Like I said id like to get another 100lbs off this car and get it down to 2600 without driver and ive already done pulled out everything thats going to get taken out, im at the point that its either cutting stuff, or spending money for lightweight parts and im def not ready to drop a grand on a cf hood and hatch with speedglass window .... Anyone can chime in reguarding the cutting thoughts?

The brake shields weighed maybe 5 lbs for all of them, probably less. I didn't weigh them though. I took them out a couple years ago when I did big brakes all around.

I don't think I'd go cutting out the floor to save weight, that's for sure. And I didn't understand what you meant anyway Black Bullet, why cut out stuff only to weld it in again?
