I personally am looking to do some weight reduction while retaining the quiet/smooth ride, and still having a spare so I can go on the highway without getting flatbedded home.

heres some of my ideas, just normal of course.

CF hood
Ditch all of my stereo and just get upgraded 6x9, 5.25, and 3.5's hooked to the factory amp/deck.
CF Hatch<<<Anyone make one for us?
CF Spoiler<<Anyone make it?
Dimple Drilled/Slotted Rotors

What else is there? I dont wanna tear out all the sound deadening or the spare tire.

As far as the battery, I have a little Honda battery in the car, and its relocated to the passenger side rear of the car. For that corner balancing argument its better back there in the rear right. A Oddessy battery is even 10lbs lighter than the small honda batteries but I couldn't fork up the cost for one..

I hear you on that. My EVO X MR has the battery located in the back trunk, right behind the passenger side of the car, all stock.

That car is so well balanced, two differentials, and S-AWC with yaw control, so sick.

But I like my GSX I just got, and reading this thread has me thinking about some weight savings. Great thread. Anyone run the lightweight braille or oddessy 15 lb. battery and run it in colder conditions? Review/thoughts as I live in Boston and would need the car to start in the snow and daily for work.

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I have taken my car one step further with the weight reduction and i'm pretty happy with the results.
The car is a 1gb AWD 5 speed.

Weighted in last night at 2464lbs.:hellyeah:

Car has all glass still with no lexan, also has steel hood and such no fiberglass pieces either. Also still has stock drivers seat and seat belt.

I included a picture of my exhaust as it exits out the bumper..
The car isn't anywhere near done so bear with the green color that needs white paint and the crappy BB pictures.

The exhaust has to still be fitted to the bumper and i have to make some aluminum door panels to cover the sharp metal too.

Also some good info that i haven't been able to find either was the weight of the side mouldings along the door, rocker, fender and quarter. I removed those and to my suprise both sides weighed 30lbs!!! well worth it.

So what all do you have removed?

So what all do you have removed?

Everything...

NO interior at all, just stock seat and belt
NO heater or heater box
NO bumper supports
NO A/C
NO Cruise
NO power steering
NO ABS
NO Wipers
NO side moudings
NO door impact beams
NO exhaust (side dump thru bumper)

I might be forgetting some stuff, but the car still has all glass in it and NO CF parts at all yet. Still plan on doing CF hood and lexan all around. Light weight race seat and 5 point harness.
Going to downgrade front brakes from the 93+ "big" brakes to the original 92 "small" brakes.

The car still has no cage but i think i can pull another 100lbs out which will balance out the weight of the cage, then keep it at this weight with cage installed.

Invested in a set of Canadian seat belts, total weight of both sides combined is 7.5 lbs. I will get the weight of the stock "suicide" style belts later this evening as I plan on doing the pull/install. I forsee a pretty good weight reduction there. Obviously a harness (yes even a 5 pt camlock) is lighter still, but without a proper cage/harness bar is not safe.

EDIT:

The stock 1g power seat belt assemblies (full front belts) weighed in at 22.5 lbs.

Total weight savings switching to canadian belts is/was 15 lbs!

I only ever found one set of canadian belts and they were cut half to sheds used to yank the motor out of the car in the u pull it yard. I can barely picture how exactly the latch up since they were cut up so bad. Is there any vendors to get them from or is it just u pull it yards?

+1 I HATE auto seat belts!

Has anybody removes the SRS computer from the center console? Is there any danger in just unplugging and removing it?

dp
I removed the srs computer from my stealth because i only had a airbag in the steering wheel. but leaving it in is a lot safer for you obviously. but it weighs probably about 5 pounds and i know its a pretty similar setup from the stealth to an eclipse it really isnt difficult to get to just bolted in unplug the wires and pop the box out. the only issue could be the light on the dash may pop on but unlikely as the entire computer is gone. i really would only recommend pulling it if you have an aftermarket steering wheel and are doing track use.

to lose an extra 5 lbs there are two metal panels inside your consel. snap off the plastic peices and unscrew the carpet pieces. remove the carpet an the metal plate should fall right down. then simply replace the carpet back on. the panel is only so you dont stick your foot through the shifter cabels ( your stupid and deserve it in the 1st place if you do).

Im trying to picture this but can't for the life of me figure out what metal brackets to remove. is a picture possible?

I currently took out my cruise control replaced it with non cruise control cable, took out my water squirters, resivors, lines and rear wiper/wiper motor, the spare tire, tire holder and tools how much weight do these parts add up to thanks

well if you check mackv.com click on the links to weight reduction and it should say what everything weighs. some people dont have to be messed up here and just help out

im not sure id guesse not that much... 100-150 lbs... just a blatent guesse... dont laugh but in my old v6 camaro i took out the rear seats (maybe 100lbs) and actually noticed a difference in acceleration LOL... your definately on the right track... reducing weight also reduces engine load and increases performance... to a point weight reduction is much better than power adders... the reason being is you are making your car faster and also increasing realiability

:hmm: Let's play guess that weight... LOL Ok, my turn.:D

cruise control about 5lbs
squirters, lines, reservoirs about 5lbs
rear wiper motor about 5lbs
spare tire and tools about 30lbs

My guess = less than 50lbs
Enjoy!:thumb:
