No worries. Not a person here has an issue with the product itself.

I would like to start a "Jackal tuning support/guide" thread, but I'm still a newbie here so I don't have the juice to do so.

It's a damn shame all Jackal users have to suffer over this, but it is what it is and I only hope it will be resolved soon.

It can be a little intimidating for new users of Jackal without the info that was available on ds-map.net. I and plenty of others have been running Jackal for quite a while now with good results. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you need help setting up the hardware or help with tuning. I've helped a few people over the phone and email in the past. It gets tough sometimes though as we are all busy with our daily routine. But I'll do what I can to help anyone in the DSM community.

So is a new forum going to be started? What about those of us that have ordered stuff from hak? Both me and a friend have been waiting since April for a logging cable.

I don't think anything has changed regarding your orders with Hak. I'm sure he'll get the stuff out to you when he can.

We are currently working on migrating all information that was available on Jackal to the new site. Hopefully it will be available and in better searchable format by the end of the week. For now I have created a thread in the Tuning section on here for people with some basic questions. There are a number of users here that are also heavily involved in the project that should be able to assist Jackal users.

On another note i was pretty disappointed in the way this site allowed Jackal's threads to be filled with nonsense and arguments started from competitors(Link). No other vendors threads allow competitors to post and criticize their products. A free product as great as what dsmap is/was offering should have been praised by the dsm community, not been forced underground so to speak.
I'm disappointed about how those threads always seemed to go downhill as well. However, Jackal was never a supporting vendor of this site, so it's not a good comparison, as vendor threads live in the vendor forum where those rules are posted and enforced.

All of the debates came about from DSMlink owners, not me or anyone affiliated with this site that was instructed to cause trouble to help DSMlink - not at all, in any way whatsoever. I know some would you believe that was the case, as I was accused of this several times by different people. And the bottom line is that is simply untrue. Any debates that included arguments for DSMlink that came up in dsmap threads were from DSMlink owners or those who like DSMlink. We tried to moderate those threads to keep the debates under control but there was a lot of emotion involved on both sides that was tough to stay on top of.

And let's not forget that dsmap was planning a paid version of the product, which can easily lead some to believe that the motivations for growing the popularity of this product had a financial side to it as well. Now, I didn't go around spouting off about this point like those who took it upon themselves to paint me as a greedy villain. I felt I took the higher road. Let's see how others choose to respond.

Again, people are welcome to use our Tuning forum to discuss dsmap so long as they remain civil about it and respect our posting policies.

Because link is one of the biggest financiers tuners has. Thats why. It came down to money every single time. Thats what hak always argued about. It may not have been that clear cut but it was.
Actually, that's far from true and a complete assumption by some people which was blown up and allowed to fester over on their site. I take offense to that accusation and I will not allow people to attack my character like that.

Is DSMlink a supporting vendor on our site? Yes. But would our operations take a big hit if they stopped supporting our site? Not in the slightest, though I don't discuss deals between the site and vendors. Those are private agreements. I will say that the assumption made above is almost the completely false though.

Does their support change the way we handle dsmap or any other vendors in our public/non-vendor forums? No, our posted vendor/commercial posting policies dictate how we handle that. And the dsmap project is seen as a commercial product, whether some agree with that or not, regardless if the software is given away. It's not open source, and you have to buy pieces to make it work, of which you can purchase from the project leader. It doesn't matter how much profit is there, it still involves money changing hands. If you pay close attention, you'll notice we don't allow people to post about anything they are offering in our public forums (at least we do our best to not allow it), especially when they are offering a product or service that someone has to pay for. And there was a paid version of the product in the works, so it almost seems like all this promotion/marketing was a prelude to a future commercial version. So it would appear to many that there was an alternative motive there.

But if people want to keep making accusations like this, it doesn't seem like a great idea to have dsmap discussed on our site. If people can stay civil and keep the postings within our policies, have at it. If you find that others are taking it off topic, report it to a mod.

Ok well every thread with any association to jackal has a post from link in it. Why was that allowed to happen? Every post even harmless posts took the threads extremely off topic untill it was 20 pages of non sense. Its very hard to find any info on tuners about jackal because of that.
That's probably because the way Jackal was promoted usually involved comparing it to DSMlink, talking about how it was a better, cheaper alternative. It was the marketing of the product that helped create the divisiveness and the arguing. You can't just blame the DSMers that say good things about Link. I feel it was mostly the fault of the project leaders for dsmap, but there was certainly some Link owners who contributed to it. Seems like a natural result with the rivalry that was building from the start. Had it been managed a little differently you likely wouldn't have seen all the Link supporters fighting it so much.

No worries. Not a person here has an issue with the product itself.
And if a moderator or wisemen on our site does have a problem with dsmap, it has nothing to do with me. It's their own opinion. I've never encouraged any favoritism either way. You can chalk it up to people being passionate about one product or the other. Simple as that.

Good to hear, and best of luck. You are welcome to make the information available here in the Tuning forum until then if needed. In fact, I think it would be beneficial for the community if you did so. We'll try and keep all the arguments muted as best we can.

Oh it's all your fault Ludachris!! All of this! jk :p

There isn't much we can do there, guys.

For those who are limited by their account status - you can still PM people that need help in the Tuning forum, or spend a little time answering some questions in the dreaded Noob forum to get your post count up. I know that's not what some want to hear, but it's how this site has encouraged people to help others for years now.

We understand, rules are rules, and i would be a fool to think I didn't have to follow them. (Noob forum here i come. LOL)

I'll e-smack you if I only see "+1" responses. ;)

You joke, but I read some pretty unflattering comments about myself and this site posted by people who know nothing about the details of how this site is managed behind the scenes or my relationship with DSMlink. I'm simply a villain in their eyes, the "establishment" if you will. I think some are starting to see that there's a reason so much conflict surrounds dsmap/jackal and it has little to do with me or others that have been made out to be enemies of the project. Hopefully that will change at some point but until then you'll have to excuse me if I sound a little bitter about it all.

I will say this - it's nice to see we have some people who are willing to hang out and help out with the dsmap discussions without all the drama. It's a little refreshing and I welcome those people and will do what I can to help keep things clean.

Its no wonder this all happened. Ds-map was very eliteist. There were very un-open to anybody who had a differen't way to do things. If you tried to discuss things they didn't want to do, they all cried witch, and burned you at the stake.

It seemed to me hak had an "I know more than you complex." When I challenged him, and asked for his sources I simply got the ban stick.

ds-map in its current state is a handicap to any car making serious power. Having static timing from about 11psi up is a shit deal when running 25+psi. Also, the logging interface is far from trouble free, it never worked and when it did, it would only grab data at about 1hz. Half the speed of a pocket logger.

Anyway, when I asked about doing the classic E931 mods to the code, so my car wouldn't handicapped, and everybody jumped on me for it. Saying I didn't need it....ect... Most of the people telling me this had cars that never run, or were basically stock. They don't have a clue what a 500hp setup needs.

So I went on my own, modded the code to fit my needs, and never looked back.

The only thing that forum offered was laughs at the hack job cars on there. Especially the one with a stack.

I ended up using a version of the old sd code from the yahoo group that i modded for what i wanted. Way less drama over on the yahoo group.

Yeah, I understand, I was guilty of participating in some of that type of crap.
