The primary and secondary injectors needs to be both the same style? Both hz or both low impedance injectors?, or it will manage both style.

No, with a Haltech with 8 outputs your primaries and secondaries can be whatever you want them to be. You could technically make every injector different in Haltech but I wouldn’t recommend it. Different primary vs secondary is very common though, you just need to setup your injector driver accordingly for each injector or stage.

I also purchased a new Bosch ECT for a Cayenne turbo. @Got Grip - do you know where to source the harness plug/pins for the Bosch ECT? I've looked around online and can't really find anyone selling them.... and it's probably because I'm not searching the right place or the right term.

What can be done to add wheel speed sensors to a 1g that never had ABS? Thank you and I'm excited to read the updates. This thread is probably one of the best threads about cars on the internet right now that I'm following along on.

edit: Also, I noticed that what type of throttle pedal used wasn't detailed. Which pedal did you use? I am also not able to find DVDT Fab online. I don't have facebook so I sure hope it's not another company that has moved completely over to that crap platform. Excuse my English.

I’m getting all the stuff I need to swap to haltech I just have to add the second rail to the evo lll intake manifold and weld the DBW flange to it.

Im anxious to see the update.

Nice! If you need any Haltech stuff let me know.

Miguelmcv beat me to it. That’s where I bought the plug for my DBW Throttle Body. He also nailed it on the pedal. I just googled GM DBW throttle pedal and bought one that I knew was a genuine GM. Haltech will work with just about any DBW throttle body and throttle pedal as long as it has redundant sensors, which I believe they all have now.

Not sure on the speed sensors for an easy installation but you could always get a trigger wheel made for your axles and a standard Hall effect speed sensor and make a bracket for it. What are you trying to accomplish with individual speed sensors? That along with DBW eats up a lot of inputs also.

Thanks for the kind words. Questions like yours help me make this thread better. I can post what I did but I miss things so others joining in helps me get all the information out there.

Just change the letters DBW instead ECT.

There is plenty, just the price is what differences.
Concerning to the pedal, I google GM electric pedal and it comes a lot of pedals very identical to Got Grid is using, however any pedal will work it doesn’t have to be from the same throttle body.

gm electric pedal

Thanks!

I just want a driven and non driven wheel sensor. I’m fwd and would love to have traction control. My Lexus has proefi128 on it and their traction control strategy is said to be the best in the industry. I believe it too because the other big name companies are just now starting to talk about stuff like rolling anti lag and torque management. Features that my Lexus ecu has had for a very long time now.

In any case, that’s my goal. I want to expand my tuning knowledge with other Ecus along with providing modern features on a 1991 fwd car. I don’t even race, it’s just for my enjoyment.

For that, you might want to get a 2500T box to make sure you’re not limited on functionality. The T is for advanced Torque Management, or traction control.

That’s a cool plan though for sure. Did a 1G FWD ever come with ABS? If it did, that would likely be the easiest way to add wheel speed sensors. Beyond that you’re doing some custom trigger wheels and pickups.

^^ I'm not quite sure if they did or not, in regards to having stock ABS. I would be willing to bet that the parts from the 1g cars that do have ABS would likely work..... although I've heard the ABS implementation on 1g's was pretty crumby in comparison to more modern systems.

Alright, lets go back to buttoning up the turbo. Just a reminder, I went with the Xona Rotor XR 10569S X3C turbocharger ( http://xonarotor.com/product/xr-10569s-x3c/ ). This is their ~1100 hp turbo in a really nice compact package. I’m controlling boost with a pair of TiAl MV-S waste gates also with our custom engraved logo on them. I can’t thank TiAl and Xona enough for coming on board for this build.

These are all mounted to a Shearer Fab header which you can now buy from Matt and Samantha at Morrison Fab. In an effort to save time (plus they’re a lot better at this than me!) I ordered a custom Morrison Fab downpipe also. I worked closely with Matt to get it as close as possible to mounting to my exhaust and he left the last two welds for me to finish it off. This saved me a ton of time and it came out perfect.

I also plumbed up all the wastegate vacuum lines, oil lines and coolant lines using stainless AN hose.

Neat! I have a question and a comment. Why are Shearer manifolds sold by Morrison now? What happened w/ Shearer? I've been hoping they'd fix their website for what seems like years now..... but I dunno what's going on. As for my comment.... Xona is Tial and Forced Performance. I noticed you said thank you to Xona and Tial for coming on board for the build, but I think maybe you meant to say Tial and FP?

Looking awesome, and I can't wait to see more updates on this. That downpipe/o2 housing is pretty insane.

I'll let @MorrisonFab give more info on this, but I believe Shearer sold Morrison the rights and jigs to his manifold designs and they are now the shop that builds them for this platform, and have since expanded upon those designs. Shearer is focusing on other platforms these days.

Ah very nice..... good enough for me, I just wondered what happened to Shearer because I knew they made, probably the highest/best quality manifolds possible for our platform. I take it that they've moved on because there's a lot of money to be made messing with other stuff, just like we see many of the DSM shops servicing GTRs and Porsches now.

edit: also, I already liked Morrison's stuff, but I definitely know who I'm buying my next manifold from.

I think most of this has been answered now but I’ll reiterate. Morrison Fab bought shearers jugs to make his manifolds and they’ve since developed a lot of their own products. They have kept up and improved the quality that Shearer brought to DSM’s and they’re really easy to work with. It was a no brainer going to them for my downpipe.

I didn’t mean TiAl and FP, I meant TiAl and Xona as stated. Yes, Xona is a collaboration between TiAl and FP, but both FP and TiAl were involved in sending me the turbocharger, which is a Xona Rotor turbo. Both TiAl and FP are amazing companies who continue to support our platform and together as Xona they are pushing the envelope even further.

I’m not sure what all the other mess was about but it looks like it was mostly cleaned up now.

im just over here drooling at the xona on a twin scroll housing. we offer them through jegs but ive been hold out hoping to see a twin scroll housing offered.

When Xona first existed, Robert had brought some of it to the shootout and I was asking him what exactly it was and how and when I could get my hands on it because it was just amazing in quality, its so beautiful that it would be hard to bolt it on to the car and not be able to look at it every day in my hands, its truly amazing and so is the Morrison Fab work, those two together, you cant ask for much better quality and your very lucky to have both brands on your car.

They custom made the housing for me since I already had the header, I don’t believe they’ll be offering it as an option though. I will say that it was challenging to get it all together due to the compact nature of the Xona Rotor and the bulkiness of that housing. It would have been much simpler with one of their standard housing options. That’s likely why they don’t want to offer it.

The turbo really is beautiful. I have tons of pictures of it just because of how photogenic it is. Haha. I try to only use the best parts everywhere I can and I was fortunate enough to get to work with Xona and TiAl on this, along with all the other companies that help me. You won’t see tagging companies who don’t have the best quality parts and the best service. That’s the reason why you won’t see me tag or even say who made my subframes as an example.

If you were following along closely, you read where I put the engine in the car with the dogbox because I was waiting on some parts to finish up my auto trans.

Well now its time to put the auto in. Like everything in this build, the auto trans snowballed way beyond what I originally was going to do. I’ll try to list all the parts I went with in the trans:

Kiggly Billet Front Clutch

Liberty Transfer Gears

JB Designs Rear Basket

JB Designs Input Shaft

Translab Shift Kit

Morrison Fab Short Shift Bracket

I also went with the Kiggly Racing 2G 6 Bolt adapter plate and flex plate.

To get the power from the engine to the transmission I went with a Precision #6 torque converter.

Getting the power out of the transmission I made some upgrades as well. I already had a FrontLine Fab automatic transfer case brace so I decided to use that. I also had a brand new manual transmission 300M transfer case. In case anyone wasn’t aware, the output shaft and transfer case gears are the same between the auto and manual (for like years). So I took my auto housings, cross shaft and FLF tcase brace and swapped in the gear and output shaft from my manual 300M transfer case.

I already had a DSS 3.5” driveshaft but I got the Sonnax front yoke from Tim Zimmer for it. I also had DSS stage 5 rear axles that work with an auto or manual so they went back in. I had to swap in an auto rear diff and I had a billet rear diff cover made probably about 5 years before FLF made theirs so I decided just to keep that. I had a set of DSS Stage 2 front axles for the car but I broke one with the dog box so I bought a new replacement for that.

Here’s a summary of the driveline:

Kiggly 6 bolt 2G adapter and flex plate

Precision #6 Converter

Fully Built Auto Transmission

300M Transfer Case with FLF Brace

DSS Stage 2 Front Axles

Sonnax Front Yoke

DSS 3.5” Aluminum Driveshaft

Custom Billet rear diff cover

DSS Stage 5 Rear axles

The transmission looks like crap and I didn’t have time to paint it or anything so the next time I have a chance it’s going to get cleaned up and painted or maybe even powder coated if I feel like taking it apart.

Once again, please help support the companies that helped me do this build! These are the companies that support our community and bring us great products. I wouldn't post a company name or a link to them if they weren't amazing to work with and provide superior products.
