Ok guys so before I instAlled the race core intercooler I wanted to check my base timing. So I grounded the timing and diagnostic connectors and hooked my timing light to number one plug lead. The light from the gun appears to shine to the right of the crank pulley. So if 5 degrees btdc is at 9 o'clock the light is shining at 3 o'clock if that makes sense. When I turn the cas to the right the light moves toward 9 o'clock but not even close to the mark. Am I missing something?

Maybe my timing light is shit? Isn't the light supposed to be shining on the left side we're the plastic has 10 stamped in it?

Could it be installed that way?I need to take a look at it. Is it possible that the pin in the timing gear was flush and I just bolted the pulley on and that's why it's off? That's a good point man, didn't even think of that

This was 2 hours ago. car runs good, just want to make sure my timing is accurate

Dial on the timing light set incorrectly? Put it to zero? That is how I have to set mine.

I have a shitty timing light.... gunna check and make sure pulley in on correctly

Are you sure it's on the #1 plug wire?

Even if the cas is pretty far off it should be close to the time marks on the timing cover.

Is the pin in the timing belt gear going into the hole in the damper?
You sir Are the man, I've had the pulley off so many times that I musta forgot to install it back in the correct orientAtion. Didn't even cross my mind. Believe it or not u wasn't to far off, but the. At idles much better now.

Going to ad something obvious you must put the timing lights connector on cylinder #1 spark plug wire
The problem ended up being that the pulley was installed incorrectly ..... therefor throwing off how the timing is read. Stupid mistake...... just wasn't thinking

how could it be installed incorrectly? Isn't there the guide pin that makes sure it goes in correctly?
The guide pin on the crank gear is flush therefore it can be installed in any orientation..... never noticed it

What vegas smith said.

It shouldn't be flush, you should have a roll pin in the crank sprocket, to help keep the proper orientation of the crank pulley on the crankshaft.

it should look something like this:

Notice how the roll pin [aka guide pin] is in the upper left corner [not flush].

It will become flush if you tighten the crank pulley down on it.
Yes indeed....one of those stupid mistakes you make. Luckily it didn't cost me anything. I don't know about anyone else but I hate removing the timing cover with the engine in the car. Such a pain in the ass.
