Im not interested in purchasing this item, just wondering what its for.
It's for getting fifty bucks out of your pocket and into theirs.
The auction states it stiffens the front to back movements
States that, eh? You ever read what the ads for Tornados state?
This ones adjustable, do the cabs really flex?
Yes, when T-boned by Escalades.

It seems like a reasonable idea. However, ours dont flex anyways.....I'd find it hard for any cars too. Ever ride in a car and see your foot moven during a turn b/c the cab flexed a tad? not really. Strut bars work better.....yeah...enuf said.

Just get a roll cage. A floor bar isn't going to help overall chassis flex all that much - yeah, maybe for "drifting" as the ad says, but who drifts DSMs? Get a roll cage if you're that worried about chassis flex. It's not a huge problem for street cars anyway.

So would you consider one of these a worth while mod?
No. Especially not for an N/T 1G. Just upgrade your suspension setup - coilovers, larger swaybars, strut braces, poly bushings, and maybe a roll cage (if necessary). You should be more than okay with that for any ocassion.

off topic but speaking of drifting dsm's.. why dont the come out with a rear wheel drive dsm? new models.. iam not sure about way back... but even honda has s200. nissan is known for rwd.. toyota made them... whats up... rwd launch is much better than awd.... well i think... but i would still prefer awd...

well, the DSM relationship ended long ago, and the way Mitsu is acting lately it's unlikely that it will ever be again. ;) as a result, the only RWD DSMs will be those modded to be such.

besides, if I wanted a fast, light RWD performance car, I'd get an MR2. In fact, sometimes I regret that I didn't. =/

DO NOT BUY THIS BAR!!

It is complete junk for our cars. I bought this for my 2G over a year ago and never could make it work because it does not allow the seat to go all the way back. It is an even worse fit on a 2G. While it does work on sedans like Galants, I have yet to see anyone make this bar work effectively in a 2 door DSM.

Just ordered this floor bar
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7962061330&category=33591

So far my suspension setup is ground control coilovers 1.25 drop on all four corners, stock shocks and struts, front and back strut bars, goodyear eagle tires. I was wondering if this will help me cut corners harder or at least neutralize the effects of having a sunroof ( i know it degrades the chassis stiffness ) will this at least equalize it or did i just waste fifty bucks. :talon:

Not likely. Your corner-cutting's biggest failing is in having the engine and transmission hanging out in front of the front wheels.

How.... do you "know" this? The metal missing from that part of the roof won't have an effect on chassis stiffness. All that's missing from there is some very lightly-stressed skin.
will this at least equalize it or did i just waste fifty bucks. :talon:
It might have been better-spent toward better-perfrmiong tires. I'm more intrigued as to how Eclipse parts can be JDM, when there were no JDM Eclipses. They're American cars. A few were imported by Japanese owners, but there are no JDM DSMs.

That was irrelavant to me purchasing it im sure it was this ebay sellers Marketing ploy to attract "Import Street tuners"==
All JDM is Japan Direct Manufactured i.e Apex but im sure this was already a given-

I was more interested in hearing a technical respone but since it was blown off from the jump im assuming its on the same boat as- God created Man -
Thanx

Just a thought im pretty positive any structure with voids on it loses some sort of integrity. :talon:

One way that we know that having a sunroof decreases the torsional stiffness of a 2G is by testing for twist in cars that do and do not have sunroofs. This can be done using string (that doesn't stretch) between various points inside the car.

The other way to learn this is by using your butt dyno and driving 2Gs with and without sunroofs back to back.

Using data from these and a variety of other methods, it is widely accepted that the sunroof of a 2G lowers torsional stiffness by a non-trivial amount. Search the dsm_autocross yahoo group for more details and polls.

With all that said, adding a weak brace at floor level is not going to help one bit. It's a useless, riceboy mod on a par with STBs with flexible end-brackets. The parts of the chassis that are being connected by the floor bar in question are already very strong due to the large crossmember in front of the gas tank (under the front edge of the rear seat).

Yeah ive read from your other posts how useless STB's are without Triangulating or having another contact point to the chassis but i bought B4 i was informed on that.
I shouldve figured it was a riceboy mod since i got the idea from my bud who owns a GSR and owns one felt effective on the butt dyno (sugar pill effect) So i purchased it. Well
since its useless to buy Go fast Mods on a 420A i figured i could tame a whale. :talon:

Great now i have to remove some more weight to compensate for my new shoe rack :barf:
Thanx for all the info you drop on handling tech awesome knowledge hopefully soon ill purchase a ride where i can put it all in effect :thumb:

Now we're going too far. Yes, triangulation helps a lot, but some non-triangulated bars are effective. The key is how the end-plate is designed. Many plates for the rear of a 2G have a flat bend in them, which makes them almost useless (e.g., the bar by Pilot that is often sold on eBay). Other rear bars for 2Gs have well-designed plates and are useful, especially if you have a sunroof (e.g., RRE).

Note that you cannot add a triangulated bar in Stock, ST, SP, or SM when you autocross with the SCCA. So finding a useful bar that is not triangulated is an issue for many people.

Useless waste of money,
Besides not having a rigid shape with the bend in the middle, the joint in it will also kill any signifigant stiffness gains to be made.
Ditto on the above comments regarding sunroof stiffness.
Friend and myself both own 1995 AWD's with identical spring and shock packages and I can raise one ide of my car with a jacking point behind the rear wheel.
On his car he can not. Only difference he has a sunroof I do not.
If you wish to make your car handle better look at something like the RM swaybars or something similar.

If you are really concerned with your torsion stiffness, you should have checked your options on installing a roll bar or even a full cage for that matter. Properly installed, either option would help your torsional rigidity, completelly erase a lack of the sunroof in your car, and make your car even better then it would have been with no sunroof in the first place.
