Winter Driving? [Merged 12-6]

Ok after reading tons of posts about winter beaters and the such i am have come to a question. Is it bad to run your car in the winter? And if so why?

Snow jammers in the winter or a truck.Keep nice cars in garage when nasty out thats how we did it in Ohio. Now I drive year round and hope hurricane doesnt knock a tree on it

Im with him, my car is driven 365 days a year. Mainly because I dont have the means to have a second car, but also becuse its AWD and it performs great in the snow. I wouldnt worry about the salt to much. Its not a bad as you think. When my car is really dirty from the salt I go over to an automatic car wash and get it cleaned off, just sit under that fan thing at the end for an extra long time to get all the water off.

I have no snow tires. I was still on the Kuhmo Escta 712's when I spun out in 2" of snow. Until I get off of my lazy ass and get some snow tires, the Talon sits. Not that I need it to go anywhere since I have an Exploder as my daily driver.

I park mine in the garage if i get home and my parents cars arent in there. Then when it snows I take it out and drive that shit!!

Mine's in the garage, but I drive it everyday. No salt here though, just gravel. I just give it a little longer to warm up right after I start it and go. I have lots of fun driving in the snow with AWD but I worry a lot about other drivers and accidents.

Plan on buying a 2g awd from a friend and swapping over all my parts/6 bolt this winter though.No more sitting on the sidelines 5 months out of the year

+1 TX isnt too bad. everynow and then it gets kinda bad.

I got a gsx to drive it all year round. just let it warm up for a little and then ride. might as well drive since i have it.

I HAVE ALL THE REASONS TO DRIVE AND NOT TO DRIVE IT IN THE WINTER!


1.) Its nice to mess around but sooner or later your going to mess up and pay for either your car or someone elses car damages.

2.) I hate starting my Talon in the winter when its below freezing i feel soo bad to start the little bugger it gose through alot =/ (Its N/T 93)

3.) Salt dose a number on the underbody of your car....*rust*

4.) my story, i wish i woudl have shopped my Eagle Talon when winter started but i have a 2006 Chrysler Sebring Touring Edition in my garage (convertible) and well i am using my DL for a winter car, i was pulling into my driveway and well i didn't quite make it, i keept sliding and i smashed my front right tire into the curve at a 60 degree angle...and well my car is screwd beyond belive....=/ the aling ment is all wrong and the tire rim/hubby is completely shattered. i was going 7-5 miles a hour when i pulled in. when you hit ice your not going to stop weather its all wheel drive or not =/

i really wished i didn't do that but, i am 500 in the hole =/ i did this today btw i felt bad and wanted to cry...maybe its just me...but i love my talon to death after i get it back i am shopping it and going to drive my 2001 ford tourus this winter..its a little easier being automatic and all. =/ plus i have full coverage on that car...rather my dl which is only liablity.


i miss my talon...='(

The '95 is driven in light snow. I refuse to plow the road for anyone else. =)

I just switched from fwd to awd, and I'm definatley driving it all year. Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm driving through snow or salt up here though. You guys that put away your awd's are missing half the fun though, these cars are built for snow! (That and I'm too poor to get a second car)

Let me think....$2500 Talon AWD or $35,000 Pathfinder.....

I drive the Pathfinder in the snow. I like my Talon too much to risk scratching it, and the Pathfinder is fully insured.

Its the only car I have + its already rusty...

As long as you wash the car once a week or so, the salt really wont do much damage. Yes, I drive my Talon in the winter months, AWD is great but being lowered isn't the best. Hitting ice chunks is not fun, the front bumper doesn't like it either.

By the way, I live on Georgian Bay, or on a "Snow belt" if you will.
