Winter Driving? [Merged 12-6]

Ok after reading tons of posts about winter beaters and the such i am have come to a question. Is it bad to run your car in the winter? And if so why?

Yeah man, but that was a Scooby. Scoobys are awesome cars too. And dare I say their AWD system is far superior to the DSM's AWD. (Tisk, tisk.)

I don't know if I'd dare take my AWD in 3+ feet of snow. Even on stock springs the ground clearance is pretty skimpy. Not built for rally driving, you'd probably get hung up on something pretty quick.
I've looked at late 90s Scooby Imprezzas quite seriously, but decided I'd miss the sweet sound of my Turbo spooling up. (And the lack of HP would be depressing in the summer months.)

it is just about ready to snow here and i am in the middle of trying to find a reasonable car/something, to drive in the winter...i was just wondering how many people drive their GST's in the winter, i really dont want to, but i might have to

Dumb question but why not drive a gst in winter. I live in AZ so winter is pretty much non existing.

I drive mine all year but I wouldn't call it winter here in Texas.

I used to drive mine in the winter here in Wyoming... Not my first choice but I'm a poor college student so not much else I coulda done...

I drove mine last year and it was fine. We had a pretty bad winter for delaware last year and i didnt have a bit of trouble besides getting out of my driveway which has a steep ass hill to climb. Its not like its rear drive, FWD is good in the snow.......as long as you stay out of boost.

I store my car for the winter for the simple face that my isurance is too high(my driving record is clean) and I'm going to school. Snowed a while ago here and the FWD will absolutly not hook up. The performance tires don't help at all.

even my Sh!ty N/T cant handle the winter very well at all....But i'd imagine if you were to put good winter tires on, maybe even studded ones. It would be a different story.

It's already snowed twice here and were hittin' 9 degrees this sat and the GST will be hittin that sheezy for reezy!? Suprisingly due to the weight I beleive that eclipse's do well in the snow unless lowered like mine and turn into snow plows

i drove my GS-T for 3 winters in TX. No problem, just be careful. I remember I was driving back from my friends apt. one day going back home at around 3-4in the morning. It was so cold that their were frozen drips hanging under the side mirror. Anyways, driving back slowly I made this long right turn after a traffic light and the whole car spun at least 5 times. I was scared shitless, I was so tired and didnt expect anything like that to happen. the car stopped in the middle of the road luckily hitting nothing and I was like WhoA!!!! I thinks its called black ice

I use to drift my roomates WRX in the rain (sometimes black ice) without a problem.
AWD + WINTER = FUN!!:laugh:

i put tire chains on my car year round. it really helps you hook up off the line

for my car to be able to even see the winter i need to replace 3 gaskets, possibly the turbo, do a belt job, get my tires on my laser rims, rustproof the hell out of it, etc etc etc

i know this is kinda outta the blue but the GSX im gonna be getting i might have to use during the winter of this year. a big maybe but i might. just wondering if its good in the winter because it is all wheel drive. sorry if its been posted before but i tried searching but couldnt find anything

If you have good winter tires and can control your right foot, AWD DSMs are great winter performers.

AWDs work like this, if you slide you'll slide very well...if it grips it'll grip well...its harder to get stuck and have traction problems in AWD vehicles but if it does happen its quite the experience.

Ok we did a EVO 16g swap but my injectors were bad so im running the 16 with stock injectors and the SAFC is set to stock settings. I dont understand the SAFC so i am not touching it for now. The factory MAS wire is snipped so its running off the SAFC my question is , is it safe to run like this for the witner ? The AFC guage i have reads lean all the time now. I just want to make sure i wont run the risk of braking things.

dont have much experience with an SAFC but if the settings were at factory - running a 16g with <14 psi [ which you shouldn't run more in the winter anyway ] should be OK

im only running 10 psi till i get my injectors
