Winter Driving? [Merged 12-6]

Ok after reading tons of posts about winter beaters and the such i am have come to a question. Is it bad to run your car in the winter? And if so why?

Well, what I am planning to do within the next couple of days is boost leak test (i built the pressure contraption to do the leak test) and change the oil with something better for the winter...

Something that I have just realized though, when you start it in the morning, it should idle at a higher RPM then normal idle right? I know most cars when they are cold will run like 500-1000rpms higher then normal idle for it to warm up.

I idle at ~900rpms no matter the temperature of the motor.
