Cam test: I will be dyno test: delta hks 272, delta K272 and BC 272 cams!!!!

I just ordered K272's today. I'll report back how they compare with my BC272's.

When do you expect to install them? I'm just waiting on cams to get my engine together, and these are very high on the option list.

I'll install them as soon as they get here, provided I don't have a lot of work come up like I did the last couple weeks. It's not like it's a lot of work, there's no way it should even take a couple hours to swap out cams even if I ding around and work slow.

I always data log, and bring WOT logs into excel to graph hp & torque. I'll post a couple screen shots if I get good comparisons -- hp, torque, airflow, and boost.

I'll probably lose some boost since those cams are so aggressive, but if I gain airflow that's fine with me (that happened going from stock to the BC272 cams). I think it only showed about a 1.5 lb/min airflow gain going to the BC272's, losing a bit of boost along with it; I don't remember even feeling a difference in pull, probably because the curve stayed exactly the same, just equally more everywhere.

Just remember to add fuel. The k272s is a very fuel thirsty set of cams.

My cams are here finally, but I'm not sure when I'll test em out as it's hard to get decent data logs in the rain If the road's even a little wet my car breaks loose in 3rd; fun but sucks for getting good logs.

As it stands right now the BC272s are the ones I plan on running being that they are IMO the most streetable so far and are somewhat similar to my HKS 264s with a little more up top. This might change when I test the bc280s. I will just have to wait and see. So to answer your question a retest just might be possible

jrohner. You said you lost boost. Did it cause a faster spool, just less. Or did it hold it higher in the rpms? Was it worth it to loose the boost to gain< what> ?

There wasn't much difference going from BC272's to the K272's; 300rpms worse spool, traded a bit of torque for a bit of hp, airflow is lower until the higher rpms where it's slightly higher. Idle was great with the BC's but is inconsistent and pisses me off big time when it just randomly kills for no reason.

These cams would probably be great with a bigger turbo, but for a 16G the BC272's are PERFECT.

This thread is great..lots of good info! Hopefully you can get your problems addressed because im really excited to see the bc 280s vs the hks 272s! And im really glad bc 272s are doing so well, honestly i kind of had low expectations for them (even though i love them) but i definetly have to agree that with my 16g its like a match made in heaven. But im looking at a 20g or 30r so 280s or the hks 272s might be an upgrade....so HURRY UP AND GET BACK TO TESTING!!!!!! hahaha!

I am doing everything within my power to get this testing back on track. I have been just as anxious as everybody here to get all the final results on the other two sets of cams the h272s by delta and the bc280s. It seem like I will be retesting the bc 272s and the delta k272s to make sure they are given equal opportunity on the new fuel set up. My projected time to resume the testing considering the work load on my business is july sometime. Dyno lab also keep calling me and asking "when are you going to test the rest of the cams?" I think they are intersted in the final results as well When I took on this challenge I never expected how beneficial this thread would be to everybody now I know and it is more than a pleasure to help! I ask everybody including BC and Delta to please bare with amist terrible economic time for business owner in the construction industry as I arrange to complete the testing within the next two months as well as keep my consruction business a float. Thanks fellas for all the encouragement and support to continue testing these cams and rest assured I will complete all testing to the benefits of those who choose the dsm route of performance.

My new head will be done next week. I'll have FP3052 W/ K272 numbers to add in 2 weeks or so.

Ok guys ran into another snagg! The dyno of the k272s where my car went lean damaged one of my ross pistons. Compression on #3 was very low. We did knotice on the dyno after the 2nd run that a stream of smoke started to come from the valve cover.

I knew this wasn't good but completed the dyno anyway. Well after finally upgrading the fuel system with the bosch 044 the stream from the valve cover started to bother me so I did a compression test and realized that something was not right with #3.

So I pulled the engine at the begining of this week, pop the piston in #3 out and found that the ringland had pinched the ring. So to make a long story short I rebuilt the bottom end using a set of cp pistons.
Been working on this thing all week and finally have the engine complete and ready to go back into the car. I guess this will alter the test a bit upgrading from ross pistons 8:3 to 1 to cp 9:0 to 1 but nonetheless I will go ahead and finish what I started for the benefit of the board.

Sometimes things like this happen but hey its all good. I went ahead and installed the bc 280s with this new set up and will be hitting the dyno once the engine is completely broken it I also found out that the competition stage 3 clucth is not that good. The pucks on the clutch is breaking off. So I ending up after much research decided to upgrade to a south bend kevlar disc with a 2600lbs pressure plate. Stay tuned!
