Cam test: I will be dyno test: delta hks 272, delta K272 and BC 272 cams!!!!

Thanks for the fast reply on the test. I noticed you only reved the motor to 7k according to the dsm link graph. Not that it would have mattered. What kind of vacume are you seeing with the kelfords??

When installed straight up about 10hg. When I advaced the ex cam gear 8 degrees and left the intake 0 I was seeing about 13hg to 14hg.

Haven't heard anything from magnus or jmf on the intake comparison test. I guess my question is would anyone like to see such a test?:cool:

Hell yeah. I'll be buying one or the other soon, (leaning towards JMF Race) it would be great to see them both on the dyno.
 
I have been following this post and i am loving it. I want to get a set of cams and this has been helping me choose some. Great work man. Im thinking a 264/272 from Delta.

Well I informed both Magnus as well as JMfabrications that I was not expecting to receive either of their manifold for free. All I want both to agree to is that which ever manifold perform less , they would agree to take it back so I would not end up paying for two manifolds.;)
 
It would be great if the Hawver intake could be thrown in there too..

Yeah that would be nice but you know what the intake test probably will never happen. In the mean time I will be ordering a bocsh 044 next week so we can resume the testing of the rest of the cam:cool:
 
why not throw the beyond redline smim in with the test? i bet it smokes both magnus and jmf! just my opinion.

I would have no problem taking the time to test any manifold its up to the manifold maker. Heck I will take the time to test them all! After speaking with Jmf and magnus the interest on their part is not there and i have not even entertained the thought of contacting hawver or redline! JMF indicated maybe but Magnus is blunt about not after the buscher test:hmm:

If those who would like to really see which is better and want to contribute via paypal for the purchase of one of these manifolds I will personally buy the other so the test can happen!
The losing manifold can then go on ebay! I will also pay for all dyno time:cool:

I appreciate everybody thanking me for doing the cam test and many have wondered why am I taking all this time to do it.
Look its like this I have been in the performance game for 10yrs and when it was time for an upgrade I always went through thing which one is the best, I made a purchase and found out the other one was better dag! So to save a lot of members the curiosity of which cam is the best I agreed to test!

I am in the same boat as everybody else on the manifolds and want to know two things first is a smim worth the upgrade ! Second if its worth the upgrade which is better!
 
I was recently ask in a private message what cam would I recommend for a particular set up . I was a little reluctant to answer but with my set up I would have to say I would recommend the BC 272s. These cams on the dyno produced the same hp down low as my hks 264s but made more hp up top. They are very streetable and very compatable with the stock intake manifold. After testing two set of cams the bc 272s is what I plan on running if I keep the stock intake manifold. If I decide to upgrade to a smim then I would have to say I would use the delta k272s! When I installed the delta k272 they made a buch of more hp up top but I lost about 80 miles off my total gas mileage! 300miles on e85 to 220ish miles on e85. For drag the delta k272 are great but my car is a daily driver I like the torque early! My likings may change when I test the Hks 272 delta grind or the BC 280s !:cool:

Sounds like a tuning issue, not a cam issue.
I'm getting 27 MPG on the highway running Kelford 272's and 40 psi boost. Of course, I'm also tuned for the parts that I have.

I think the mix of big cam and stock intake has a lot to do with it. Cruising with my rpm around 2800 for some reason with the Bc 272s I am getting better gas mileage than with the k272s. Air fuel cycle nicely:confused:Who knows I still personally like the Bc272s and when fuel issue is taken care of plan to hit close to 550whp;)
 
When will you be testing the hks 272s and the bc 280s? Also are you going to test the hks 280s as well?

It wont be until I address my fuel issues. I got the bosch 044 on order!
 
I just read the whole thread. Between the discussion of cam lift and the testing, i learned a lot. I will be taking this information with me as i either upgrade my current 91 or when i get another 2g. Thanks guys for another great read!
 
Ill say that this thread has been positively outstanding for the simple fact that I have both BC and Kelfords. I have been on the fence for a while as to whether I should install the Kelfords.
 
Well I think that the test so far has been great, but still want to know the full potential of the k272 with supported fuel. That is what I am going to be running when my car is put back together. Main reason why I went with the k272 to move the powerband higher in the rev being front wheel drive for traction.

If you need any idea. People have gone over 700whp on hks272's so I'd assume the k272 being so similar to the kelford 272 that it'd be good for over 700whp too.

Yeah I figured that but the setup that is being tested is somewhat similar to what I will be running. I dont plan on pushing mine that far until I can fully build the bottom end but being fwd I am somewhat limited seeing its my occational dd.
 
My HKS 272's have made plenty of power at low boost but this summer i think im going to switch from my 3.5" ETS street intercooler to one that can handle the flow of this turbo. I also want to look into the Kelford cams but im holding back as i don't want to lose any spool, as im on a 2.4L.

Yeah I will retest the k272s for I too want to know just how much power these bad boys with make!
 
If you would of done these tests a month or two ago, I would of donated (borrow) my JMF intake for the test! But I am now putting my motor and car back together.

Dag! I am thinking about getting one of my spare stockers extrude honed and will do a comparison against the stock one:hmm:
