Boost Max On A 14b

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Since the orginal poster is seeing only 7psi I would do the following in this order.

1.check for boost leaks,make sure the car is running good before modding (basic things)

2. get a logger as stated above. One can be had for around 30-50. (or around a 100 for a kit)

3. Log Log Log...then log some more to make sure everything is working great.

4. Start to turn up the boost very slowly...like 1-2psi everytime. Keep on the look out for creep...you haven't stated if your on stock exhaust or not, if so stay below 15max.

5.get a fuel pump at least, best 100 you will spend for quite a while. After that get injectors

6. From there just keep logging and keep an eye for knock. Turn it up until you get knock then back it down, also be aware of heat soak,smic are known for that. Keep an eye on timing too,it can tell you a lot. Also check injector duty,and coolent temps.

7. I will say it again before all of this do regular maintence. Plugs gapped at .028 NKG only nothing else. Oil change using only oem filter..NO FRAM. After it runs good you will get were you want to go.

Were glad you came in here at least before you turned your boost up, because most people just crank the boost..blow there engines and say how dsms are pos's, but the true owners know the truth... it's not the car, its the owner or PO or PO before or PO before him etc.....

Hey i am saving up for a shepard trans. but i got a mBc from my buddy and i was thinkin hey why not raise it up a few. WHats the most you guys would raise it on that turbo. My best bet was 10-11psi but feel free to correct me.

Jeff

warap man? good to see another DSMer in N. MI :)
Did you do the BCS free modd yet? It jumped me from 7,8 to 10 PSI ..like a 2PSI and you can tell. :)
Then I picked up a full 3 inch exhaust...and that made a pretty big difference too.
I think 12psi would be just fine for daily driving on a 14b.
I ordered a MBC and I'm cranking up the boost to 12 this week.
PS: Get rid of that air can asap...if you didn't yet...it make a diff also!
Honda's are OUT 1st Strike :) unless you encounter a heavy modded Turbo one....
ohh...I got a short throw shifter...I timmed myself...I lost 1.3 sec in my shifting...it COUNTS!
Also look into launchig methods...4k launches work the best for me.

ohh....my check up list before raising boost on a stock 1G would be:
1.chk oil/change it if needed;
2.chk for boost leaks;
3.chk your timing and Ignition TIMING( lot of ppl forget(1g only), but it's important!)
4.Chk the spark plugs/regap as necesary;
5.DO the BCS free modd;
6.Chop the air can, and do the free 1g mass modd;
By this time you should be boosting 10 PSI with no problems.
7.Get a decent MBC, crank the boost a little at 1 time...1psi increments;
8.When you hit 12PSI I would look into changing the stock exhaust to a 2"5 or 3 incher;
9.At this point I would get a logger;
10.rewire the fuel pump and go ahead and boost till 16 psi max!
Anything after 16 psi I would do a fuel system upgrade:inj, pump etc.
Squize everything out of that 14b -that way you get the feedback and experience for latter on when you get that new sleeper turbo you have your mind set on.

There where 3 people that asked how much psi they could run with there set up. How many times has it been said people? Get a logger and find out no 2 cars are the same. Some people can run 15psi with stock fuel system some people 18 some only 12. Get a logger!! :beatentodeath:

Hmmm. I was told first gens boosted 7psi stock. Pretty sure that was right but maybe not i will look into it again. But anyways ya i have been meaning to get a logger and yes i aodo have a ftermarket. Not a very good one from what i hear but its better than stock.

Jeff

EDIT: I am also only getting 7 psi.

If you are running 7psi, you need to do a boost leak test. I was running 11 psi stock.
