Hey i am saving up for a shepard trans. but i got a mBc from my buddy and i was thinkin hey why not raise it up a few. WHats the most you guys would raise it on that turbo. My best bet was 10-11psi but feel free to correct me.

Jeff

10-11 psi is about the stock boost pressure isn't it? without a datalogger i wouldn't raise the boost. if you have one you may be able to push it to 14-15 psi on the stock fuel system.

With supporting mods, a 14b is efficent till about 18-19psi on a stock ic setup.

alright well i got some of the free mods but other than that its all stock so your saying i could raise it up to 12ish without running lean or anything? This is all tempoary and i need to embaress some civics. Oh ya an stock boost in a first gen is 7.

The stock wastegate spring on a 1G is around 9psi, and you'll usually get 10-11psi with the stock BCS in place. On a stock fuel system, 16psi is usually the safe limit. I've run 23psi on a 14b and stock IC with 550s, pump, logger, and good gas.

Notice that most people are mentioning a datalogger, it might be a sign.

12 is the stock boost on a 1G. 1st question. Do you have an aftermarket boost gauge? Don't trust the stocker. Get that and a datalogger to check injector duty cycle and knock before you 'raise it up a few.'

Holly crap. You ran 12.1 on that setup? :thumb: That gives me hope for mine this year.

I've personally drove a car with a fully ported 14b that held 23psi to redline. Granted it was a very modded car and I'm sure it was very close to it's limits but none the less, the car was still pulling. :thumb:

I was running 21-22 psi on the stock setup no problem. when i went to the 680s with a 2g mass i pulled the line on the wastegate and got 29-30 psi till 5800rpm then it fell to 26 till 7000rpm never blew anything up it and pulled on 450hp T/As Vettes you name it!

Hmmm. I was told first gens boosted 7psi stock. Pretty sure that was right but maybe not i will look into it again. But anyways ya i have been meaning to get a logger and yes i aodo have a ftermarket. Not a very good one from what i hear but its better than stock.

Jeff

EDIT: I am also only getting 7 psi.

You need to check out www.vfaq.com, alot of your questions will already be answered there! As for boost, I have a 16g which is a little different, and I'm a 2g, but I run 15psi safely on stock fuel. I recommend this to everyone... DSMLink. That is all

I agree with this entirely. I have a heavily 7cm turbine housing (wastegate area left alone), custom compressor housing, preloaded wastegate and I am in this boost territory all the time. VFAQ will tell you 14b efficiency falls at 21psi, but when you can really tell a difference on the butt dyno between 20psi and 25. I have a very free flowing setup, and boost does drop significantly up in the rpms, however I only take it a little passed 6 grand at the track. Check out this dyno info - check "map psi" column

Note: this is on 6cm housing and stock compressor housing (opened up though)

stock boost on a 1g is around 10 psi and 12 psi(mine now)after the bcs mod.itll go down to 7-8 psi if your getting enough knock to open the bcs up.

The BCS can't make the boost go lower than the spring pressure. If it is opening, it effectively acts as a bleeder valve and allows a few more psi before the WG sees spring pressure.

Stock fuel with an s-afc i ran 18 psi with no problem. That was with a dyno tune. Ran that for about 2 years and counting.

i have a 1990 Tsi Awd and i just bought a Hallman Pro MBC, haven't installed it yet, but i was also wondering what were the safe limits.. my mods include 3" catback, Pacesetter Header, and TurboXS Type H-RFL BOV with an aftermarket boost gauge also. Right now i'm running 10-12 psi and i haven't messed with it really that's about my stock boost. from reading some posts i was thinking maybe 16 at the highest with my mods to be safe. any suggestions?

most important thing before turning up boost at all is some sort of logger. you have to know knock, tima, idc in the least to be able to know how much your car can safely run, every car is different. some people have great luck with jumping to 16 without any knock. i, on the other hand, not only have a crap ton of creep, but knock at 11 psi doing a full 3rd gear pull. not bad, but it's still knock. so i leave it at 11 until i get fuel upgraded.

whats going on guys? i have a 14b on my AT and im creeping some kinda bad, boost leak was done before and after the 14b install. (fuel injector seal was only thing).

question is... i have my mbc set at 15psi and once i get over 5500rpm it creeps to about 19-20psi.. and i hit fuel cut of course(only hit fuel cut once though).

i know my fuel system is stock except for rewire kit but why is it creeping so bad? whats a good psi to set it at then?

yea, I just check my 14b for shaft play, and I've been running around at 21-22 psi. SOLID AS A ROCK. 14b's are so dominant. I've made up my mind, Im getting a 7cm housing, porting it like crazy, and welding the wastegate shut. I have 1000cc injectors, and a decent sized fmic, Im about to do some crazy cold air intake ducting for my 9 inch k&n, and after all thats said and done, Im just going to do every other mod possible until the turbo is the last thing left. I want to swap turbos and feel a 100 hp difference, I know I'll get a kick out of it. Port my compressor housing like crazy, maybe even change to a b16g/evo316g compressor housing and port that. the 14b center section is sooo solid. Im SO surprised I haven't blown it yet. I might have to get someone with super small hands to check the shaft play just to make sure Its not just my big hands making me think this thing is in there so securely.

14b for life. I know why the dealership wants 1200 for a new one, they are godly.
