hi, i wona upgrade my turbo on the gsx, and there is so many choices dont know which one to buy, so i asking you pepz wich turbo is best for under 1k for street/strip setup thanks,

I just thought that some of you might like to know that the AEM EMS is going up on groupbuy for 1100 soon. its not up yet, though.

I doubt you could even get the car to idle with bigger injectors and no fuel control. I know VERY well just how far you can take a SAFC. I did a 12.1@117 on 94 octane pump gas with a safc and a hacked 1g MAS.
TSi92: Please feel free to not read what I posted before correcting me  He thought he could get away with NO fuel control I told him think again.

:dsm: k.. i have a 96 gst spyder... the t25 is at 16 pounds and everything is just as smooth as day WOT no misses or anything... but i would still like to have a 50 shot or even smaller but from my experience with gas right when you spray, exhaust flow increases dramaticly.. my tuner said this would be the end of my turbo if i even got a 15 shot because the exhaust flows out so much more it spikes the turbo up like instantly to unstable psi levels for the turbo... so.. i was already planning on a turbo upgrade but witch 1 would be best or witch 1 would hold a 50 shot nicley and not have to worry about it scatering all to peieces

As i understand, NOS could be used effectively to get that low end grunt while a BIG turbo is still spooling up, and i mean big. In short, it is used to overcome turbo lag. So i would say anything bigger than a 20G or a T3. Other than that, youre playing with fire (in this case, NAWWWSSSSSS):D

I dont think so. I think that if you ahve a properly controlled system and you know what your doing than spike wont really be a big issue. Ive never used nitrous on a turbo car before but have a lot of experience with it on my old Honda's. Its all the same for everone...if you know what your doing then you should be fine. However IMO, you shouldn't buy a nitrous kit just to get the extra edge (it will cost a lot and you wont have it all the time), you shoudl use a larger turbo for that. You should try getting a larger turbo + supporting mods first to see how you like it. If that is not enough then if you want to really use n20 then buy a kit. Start small and work your way up. Nitrous doesnt have to be used soley to spool a "large" turbo... it can be used all throughout the power band. Jus tmake sure you know what your doing or take it to someone who does.

Now, the question at hand.

What turbo will I be able to push the most amount of HP out of the stock engine?
As in what Turbocharger will I be able to use to the fullest with 660cc injectors etc?

I can't just name a blower because I can't make up my mind(Had already reviewed the rules about turbo questions.)

Lag is not an issue. I dont cry about response.I only want to maximise my setup, while obtaining some reliaibility.
I also purchased a MUTT for my old 90 Tsi and it #### the bed after 3k miles a few years back, so I am all set with those.

I appreciate the suggestions.

Thanks,
Nick

eight people just looked at this post, which means one of two things.

1.I look like a newby to you guys. YOur being stubborn and would love to just tell me to SEARCH it.:thumb:

2.YOu have no idea, as you are a newbie. Anything you post will probably be shot down.

SO? 660cc injectors, mostly pump gas use. Highest hp out of 30psi that this motor will handle, (Which is a generally agreed upon 420HP +/- 20hp)

thanks you guys,
Nick <---NewEngDsm member. Rep'ing Maine w/ a nice and clean 1g.

BR20g is a good choice. low spool, nice top end. Will I ever need any more than this turbo on a stock block 4g?

also, 20g w/ 660's. About 22-24 psi on pump? I just need some more sources b4 making a decision.

I'm all ears :)

Nick

from what I have read 18-20lbs is the max boost for pump gas unless you have some sort of knock control i.e. propane, water, or alcohol injection. but if your not worried about blowing any thing up crank it up and see what happens.
missed the fmic the first time threw

Extreme is doing well enough w/o me so I'm gunna have to go w/ something more fundimental.

yeah, pretty much all supporting mods for a bigger blower are laid down (Or will be before I actually purchase a turbo) So thats not an issue.

For example, One of my NewEngDsm Bretheren Mike Rizzotti, just made 490hp to the front wheels (No AWD dynos around herrr) on a FP RED, 660s, VPC/GCC, 272/272, Cosmo pump blahblahblah.
THis was accomplished on a stock motor, but the RED is a nasty turbo capible of pulling 9 sec ET's. SO obviously its more than enough turbo if your running low 11's, high 10s.

I wanna find out what turbo will take my short block to the limits while testing the limits of the turbo itself.
Does that make any sense?
A turbo that will support a stock-block to its capasity, with the turbo giving most of what its got. (25-30psi)

thanks:D
Nick

I also have a mutt that died at under 2K miles. It seems that oil contamination is a problem with this turbo. if you are going to choose an extreme turbo product. I would get one of those inline filters just to be safe. I loved mine just a little pissed that the cause of its death was consistent with everyone else:confused:

I think you should go look at AGP or diamondstars T3/T4 turbo kits.
I think the 50 trim stage 3 .63 ar would due just fine. Or the 60 trim.

Well? which one? LOL!
This is what I was trying to avoid, but maybe we can filter out the choices.
BR20g and Green would be about $250-300 apart, this could also be Tial35mm on the collector area of manifold money. Or internal? I can go either way at this point, but I've never had an external gate before and am intrigued on the idea.

Cost is also playing a small factor as I'm at $3k on my project minus turbo, FMIC & exaust(I get fabrication for next to nothing thanks to family connection www.scalli.com) My goal is high 11's for $5000 (including the car)

Keep em comin:thumb:
Nick

Well the AGP kit is 1600 for a 35 mm tial waste gate, SFP mainifold, Garret T3/T4 turbo either 57 or 60 trim, O2 houseing, wastegate dumptube, and the rest of the crap to bolt it up. I think its money well spent.

you can upgrade to the 40mm waste gate, or get differnt trims for more money. But i think the base line kit would kick some serious ass. If you can get fabrication for cheap. then the exhaust should be very cheap, and the intercooler, and pipes should not be much either. Its just going to cost money on the core, and the piping. Buy the kit. i know you want to ;)

RnRRacing is makin a kit as well for the same price or so.

the thing is I already have a ported 2nd Gen Exaust mani with an EGT in it. TO get one of those kits would mean upgrading twice which I'm straying away from.

DSM manifold
cheap(er) money
reliable (Not like a oil Contaminated Extreme blower) ;)
Good power maker (spool time not that important)

that is my agenda pretty much.

thanks,
Nick

i bought a t3/t04e (50 trim, stage 3, .63 ar.) and tial 35mm wastegate for $759 shipped @ cheapturbo.com. i found a used turbonetics t3 mani for $275. I bought the turbo oil lines and coolant lines for $65 from dsmotorsport. also added $20 for high temp stainless hardware. total price is $1119 and is capable of high 11's. I would say a garrett t3/t4 combo would be your most cost efficent solution especially if you modded your 2g mani for the garrett....

That turbo is capable of more then high 11's. Dsmsport say that is it capable of 10's. But they were able to hit low 11's on the 50 trim. which is damn good i think

what the stock 6 block can handle is all going to be in tuning. Saying I want to put the biggest and baddest feasable turbo on the stock block, what should I get is not a good question to ask.

How about you tell us what kind of power you want to make, what kind of $$ are you looking to spend. ETC ETC.. Once that info is given it will cut down alot of choices.

<---re-read my posts to find out what kind of power I wanna make, what I want to spend, etc, it all there.

p.s. The thing is I do Not want to really get rid of my 2nd gen mani. its not modified to fit a Garrett, dont know where that came from.

My criteria is above, but as far as power? I want to know what is the general consensus as to how much HP a 4g63 will handle on its factory issue bottom end?

That is how much power i'm lookin for! :)

I appreciate the help, and patience.
Nick
