Wow gofer your friction disk looks great! is that just a run of the mill ACT unit? I'm running an ACT PP with an RPS f-disk, stock flywheel. mine looks about like yours but the f-disk was a bit more ate up for only 5k miles on it. I'm about to post about the tim zimmer combo in this area and see what feedback i get becuase i know t's gonna be clutch time come spring so i wanna save/order now

I remember having one of those... then i was pulling past a kawi 636 in the top of third, hit fourth and it turned into a bunch of fuzzy hair filling up my bell housing . Now i have the ACR PP and and RPS disk.. I really am interested in the south bend stuff though, tim talks it up a good bit, might be the ticket for me..

what flywheel you running gofer? I loved my fidanza 8lb one on the FWD and kinda want one again for AWD but have heard some say that's too light for AWD and some say it's just fine.. to me it was perfect on FWD neverhad an issue launching

I went to the dark side when I upgraded to my Shep 4 and I switched to an ACT Twin Disk setup. The ENTIRE twin disk weighs in at 16lbs, that includes the flywheel, PP, and clutch disks. IIRC Glenn, my 2600 PP and street disk alone weighed roughly 16lbs and then the additional 11lbs for the ACT Chromoly flywheel.

The significant decrease in rotating mass off the crank definitely effected drive-ability, the car free revs (up and down) fairly fast so you've got to watch throttle blips starting off and it took A LOT of tuning to keep the car from dying when coming to a stop. I personally don't recommend cutting down to an 8lb Fidanza flywheel...

I run a South Bend clutch from Tim's site. SS series pp and a TZ-fe kevlar/feramic disc. As far as I know it was holding up very well. Tons of wheel spin when I was FWD and held awesome right after the AWD swap. Only launched the car maybe 3 times on the AWD setup before I started having overheating issues and parked it. And those were at the track with a 2.2, 2.1 and a 1.8 60'. I will post pics of the clutch when I get the motor tore apart.

It may sound silly, but are the front outer axle cups the same as the rear outer axle cups? Im trying to save some money here, ### I dont want to buy ABS rear axles. They are hard to find and too expensive anyway

ive driven with my fidanza flywheel and havent had anyprobs with it wanting to die,but im just on a spec 6 puck sprung clutch stg 3

but havent driven it with it being awdyet.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I think i'll end up with a zimmer spec south bend here soon (i HOPE anyway) and pair that with another fidnaza flywheel (of course the PTT ison sale for 1084 + the 129 for a ring gear untill christmass i guess and that's RTEALLY tempting since i have some credit i can only spend at stores (wishj i could pay bills with it )

as for the rest of the combo, something about having all wheel drive and feeling the torque get tothe ground has me wanting a small turbo to play with.. anyonegot a blown 16g of any size or somethign similar to let go of? It just feels ike it would be awesome gto have a powerband starting in at 3200 RPM or so again instead of the 5k RPM + i'm currently playing with.

I just want to weld the wastegate, use myexternal on an OEM manifold and see what i can squeeze out of that combo..... after that or next if i don't get a 16g i think a SMIM is in order along with the bigger injectors i've been hoping for over the last 4 months

gofer... how you like the ACT twin and what kinda miles, abuse and other treatment has it put up with//;? also, did you have a built gearbox before getting it? if so i was wondering what kind of improvementin shifts they can really make to a stock box? with my clutch throw mod on the 2g pedal i'm finally able to shift my high mile OEM AWD trans at ~7800 RPM with verylittle effort and hardly a single bit of resistance, but faster and smoother are always better

Just curious if anyone has done any launches with their awd swapped vics? I've done very little driving and haven't heard any thuds or clunks so I guess I'm ok. Just don't want to rip out the rear end on a good launch

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "vics", hopefully it's not something avenger related only making me a fool for answering (love the nfact that you did an AWD avenger by the way, that's pimpin in disguise right thur )

Anyway, as far as launching my converted GS-T i''ve launched it on the twp step at 4200, 4500 and 5000 RPM as well as launching from a free-rev at anywhere from 4500 - 5500 RPM, never heard a clunk or any bad noises at all, i have learned that yhou have to be FAST on the clutch but not dumping it... the first few times i slipped it way too sllow but what would have been super fast for a FWD and it was slipping the moment i got on full throttle from overheating the disk

But when i let it out as fast as i can wihtout dumping it i get a solid jerk forward and a clutch that holds through 1-2-3rd gears easily, I LOVE the feel of first gear wide open and either no wheel spin or having the whole car sideways from all 4 spinning , nothin quite like it IMO

Just curious but guessing you guys are using mig to weld the driveshaft brackets up to the body. What settings are you guys using? I'd hate to be burning holes through the metal. All I need is the driveshaft for mine and I'm done (and get my engine put back together and in the car). Looks like I might have to fab up something for the front mount because I don't have the front bracket. Was looking to go with a 1-piece or 2 piece shaft but the money just isn't there right now and it'll be 20 years at the rate I'm going if I have to save for one. Sigh....

For the front mount, I just drilled out the holes and dropped bolts through the chassis, its the same mount that the awd's have. You just have to add an exhaust hanger.

For the rear I riveted and epoxied mine. After 3 rivets I hung my 254lb self with it... Damn solid. But we ended up with about 14 rivets total on it. Its solid.

quick question,
on the fuel lines theres two that come from the bay,one is from the fuel filter and the other commng off my fuel reg.i need to know which one goes to the gas tank and which one goes to the safety valve on the gastank?

I "THINK" it's for the abs, but don't quote me on it. My car is still down and it's been awhile since I did all the wiring.

ive already removed all the abs wiring off the subframe,but didnt think about it being for the abs since its on the gas tank,but ill check the plug off the subframe and see,

So I'm in the middle of this swap (both cars 1999) and I ran into a problem.
I pulled the tank and straps out of the GSX but I forgot to get the brackets to mount it all.

My question is how am I gonna mount the tank/straps now? I know I cut out the GST ones but what do I have to make for the AWD one to fit?

I already junked the shell.

There are no AWD tank brackets... You just gotta drop some bolts in.
