Ok i tried searching and couldnt find anything directly related.

1997 Eclipse GST...

I went to go get the engine codes read at auto zone. Closest place for free. The guy stuck the connecter on the connecter inside my car, and he was unable to make a connection or get any readings. Anyone have any ideas on what is up with that?

actually, my buddy was having the same problem with his 98' RS and we checked the fuses and also had the key turned on. Check and see if there is a broken wire or something that is disconnected, We had his dash out and I think that may have caused it.

Yeah, as I said, if you have some kind of aftermarket EMS, then yeah, it usually wont work... It has to be in the on position or running, due to the fact that some codes wont show unless it is running, when I do diagnostics, I always have the car running, simple enough?

My car is having the same exact problem. I checked the fuses, key was forward, wires are all good and still the Autozone actron scanner will not connect at all. It is a 95 but as I have read in other posts the 95 talon tsi awd is in fact OBD II. then looking at the website below, it shows the diagram and that the prongs do not line up with the correct configuration for DSMs. the scanner has prongs in the 2,3,4,5,7,9,10,11,and 15th but the battery power is in the 16th... I am a newbie and I am sorry if it is a stupid question but would it have anything to do with being a socketed eprom ecu? I just cannot get it to work.

If you car is in DSMLink mode, I believe you have to reset the ECU by doing a short key-dance to put it back in OBDII mode.* There is a short blurb in the DSMLink user manual about this. Since Link is also an OBD reader, I don't think this applies to anyone but those who need their car scanned for emissions testing.

* That all assumes by "socketed EPROM" you meant socketed for DSMLink.
