Hi everyone, I just got my first car, a beautiful 1996 Eclipse, European spec. I connected both one of those crappy blue bluetooth OBD readers, and a slightly less crappy one, and they both fail to make contact with the ECU. The port does have power, (I can connect to the OBD reader through bluetooth, after all), but I can't make a connection to read any codes. Does anyone have any experience with this, or tips?

I need to figure out why my airbags and ABS aren't working, or the government man will probably not allow me to drive her...

airbags are very specific systems and the basic ones wont do it or work with it and that system. your looking for a software thats compatible with mutool aka MUT2-3 generally but those ones are about 1000+. I used cheaper units but only for basic reading, NONE ever looked into the srs air bag systems

Funnily enough, for European car inspection, the only thing that is mandatory is that the failure indication light works, so I'll have to keep them on like this forever, LOL. God knows who decided on that brilliant idea.

I was doing some more digging around today and I found this - is there any chance that this could read the MUT-II data? does anyone have experience with this tool?

So as a little update, I found a dealer here about an hour away from me that has a MUT-II scanner which is what I need to diagnose / reset my SRS and ABS lights. I haven't tried any of the methods mentioned above, mainly because I have the nippondenso ABS and heard that you can't read codes from there, and you definitely can't read codes from the SRS ECU. Luckily I have no engine trouble, so I can't test these methods.

The srs ecu under the center console is the typical failure point in these cars for the air bag system. In the technical manual I posted a link to there is a process to test resistance of the unit to see if it has failed. Usually on sunroof cars these units will have water damage and fail

No sunroof luckily but I'll check the unit, thanks! Last owner did drive with the steering wheel airbag disconnected, so I was thinking that it probably just needs to be reset (?)
