All Crankcase Venting Options, Balance Shaft Vent Hole?

I'm looking for a 2nd option to vent the crankcase, 30psi is blowing out the dipstick. I'd prefer the side vents for ease of install but am curious if the STM fitting is straight forward. Here's what I've seen..

1) Valvecover = I have an 8an fitting off the side to a catch can

2) Hal oil cap vent

3) Front Balance shaft hole
(ideal when block is out)

4) Side Balance Shaft Vent hole?? Pic 1 STM
(Is this even possible on a 1g?)

Crankcase pressure can vary due to ring blow by, some engines are like 3% leak down and others like 13%, brutal difference. But dual 10an are definitely nice, the Hal cap would be that next option since I'm single 8an.

I'm thinking of doing back of block, not the red block pic, and maybe just a little extra venting will stop that extra build up pressure. I'm not sure how to pull it off yet.
 
I'm curious how that breather on the back will do because I accidently left that bolt out and oil sprayed out everywhere. I have zero blowby to so I'm just curious how much oil will shoot out with someone who is popping a dipstick.
Obviously it would be hooked up to a catch can but I wonder how much oil it would end up pushing.

Take it from me as I recently had the same issues, one -8AN fitting isn't enough. I'd argue two -8an's wouldn't be enough either. Two -10ANs was the magic cure for me.

if done correctly it would shoot up into the line but then drain right back into block once car isnt in a pull
 
I agree with @diambo4life , blowby, excessive, is the product of a poorly sealing motor.
As for the dipstick delima, buy a small expansion spring and attach it to the dipstick tube with a worm clamp then hook the other end to the dipstick head. It won't pop out and cause a fire that way.

That makes sense! I guess I wasn't taking into account the hose actually going up and not out or down, and also the length too. I remember mine did only spray out when I was in boost too otherwise it was fine.
 
It sounds like it's time for the advice of always have a fire extinguisher in the car, any car. I have them, but not in everything in my herd either. Still, better to have and not need than need and not have.
 
But I've got phat ring gaps and run 50 psi 😭

My engine was assembled by a meth head so that’s my defense as well. I’m only running a pathetic and paltry 30psi though.
 
My 1g is built very loose and has a lot of blow-by. Before I measured the crank case pressure difference between Two 10AN on VC v.s. One 10AN on VC with One 10AN on the block. I saw no much difference. The crank case pressure was almost the same.
From my experience, usually the common two 10AN on VC would be enough for most of case. I have ran 50+ psi and had no issue.

If want something to help a bit more, maybe installing a secondary air pump in opposite way would help to lower the crank case pressure under boost. Some people use it as a vacuum pump but it actually doesn't work well as a vacuum pump to build vacuum unless you use 2-3 pumps in series, you can't have vacuum but it has a good flow with a 19mm (3/4) port to suck and purge the air from the crank case.

Thanks for the comparison Hiroshi, in my situation adding a 2nd VC fitting isn't practical but adding that Hal cap vent or a bock vent could.

Member EC17PSE showed me a rear vent option that uses an open screw hole. It might be that STM fitting so that's option 1 for now unless I find that oil cap vent.

Excessive. Most of these manufacturers just play it safe and want to suggest much bigger clearances than needed. Gaps should be stepped as well. Bigger on the bottom.

I have been using the bs inspection hole as a crank case vent for a very long time now.
Same. I did this some time ago on my older tired engine. And it is why I suggested it to the OP.

I have the V1 FF VC and 2x 10AN ports, it works well but I kept noticing oil was being sucked or pushed into the Calan can. At that time I had only 1 catch can. It kept getting clogged up and not full of blowby but a decent amount.

I knew it was either being pushed because no baffles in the VC (most likely was) or my engines tired. I wanted to equalize the paths pressure so it I took from below in the crankcase area, if this was part of the issue then it now has dual passage ways to draw from.

At this stage I also did a 2 can system. I built my own Catch Can with proper filtering and baffling inside and this also helped a tremendous amount! People forget how much baffles and filters play a role in a good system! So bother before the engine rebuild it worked and only collected a fraction of deposits and now due to the secondary filtered/baffled can I now no longer get the oil deposits on the intake tract either now.

The BS port was a great way to balance the top and bottom out and why I suggested it to the OP and others should use it like we do. Just work the system to ones build and requirements like I have to mine.
 
Would also like to know this. What is the size/thread pitch of the bolt and what size line is used. Going to a can? Sealed or vented?
8AN is the most common size
