rochester,
ive had an ongoing argument with a friend about a 6g72 engine swap. its the 3si vr4 engine. dont care if it went in a 1g or 2g, did it ever happen or not, i have found nothing on it.

You guys rock. What do you lauch at, 1200? Anyone who thinks this is a good idea is an idiot.

First of all the 6g72 was from 3000GT VR4s and Stealth R/T Twin Turbos, not Eclipses. Honestly I would be suprised if this is as easy as you think it is. I find it very unlikely that the motor and tranny will just drop in, and then you have to deal with wiring it. I'd research this more and get price quotes before you go out and buy a motor. You don't want to start something you can't finish.

Thank those of you with intellegent thinks to say. It seems that it will be a lomng and difficult task but i have time and money. I have a few mechanics and unliumited expertise on my side though. The motor will be easier than i first thought to drop in. I have soon learned that it will be alot easier. ANd as for the 3000gt and eclipse differences, i realize that the block was first used by the 3000gt but then the eclipse used it with different internals, manifolds, throttle body. I wouldnt mind havin a 3000gt motor but i cant find one with less than 50,000 miles on it. I have found the eclipse motor with only 5000 miles on it. So i went with the reliable route. The motor will not just drop right in, i have already specified for the need of a custom mount on the front left side of the motor, but i feel confident that it will fit once my connections get done with it. I beleive that this will be a truely difficult task but im confident it will be all worth while once i get done because im tired of the limitations my motor has and am also looking for the capabilities possible with the dsm motor cuz no matter what anyone says, the motors are bullet proof and ready for boost and high boost at that. Im hopin for support when and if this gets completed in the near future. I dont need quotes for prices and the like because i have a couple of professionals helping me for free if not just the cost of the beer for when they arent working on it. The pistons and rods are the only things besides the motor and tranny that are actually costing larger amounts. A few vacum lines were cut in the process of taking out the motor itself but that will be a minimal cost. If customizing is needed than so be it. Im able and willing to do what it takes to get over the measely 250whp mark my stock 2.7 v6 is limited at.

He is not talking about a dsm eclipse, he is talking of 2000 and ups, their blocks..... I think..... right....... it seems like a long shot that it will work, but if you have faith money and time, more power to you!!!!;)

I think the v6 you have in your car is the same v6 that comes in the 2000 and up Eclipse. If this is true there is a big shot shop that is using the eclipse engine for a tube frame drag car so maybe it has more potential then you thought.

My friend just swapped a 6G72 on his non turbo 3000GT so he basically has a 3000GT twin turbo 2WD and it was a bi*** it took alot of money and time but it works. He can spank VR-4s from a roll all day long not to mention the torque on this thing is amazing. But if it was hard to swap to a car that has the same mounts same motor exactly without the turbos imagine how it would be on your car whose chassis was never ment for that kinda power. Thats just my two cents if you wanna check out his site its SILVERGTO.com but I dont have if u can do it then more power to you and show us some results.

Thank you all very much. i understand all of your concerns with the hyundai, after all, it is a hyundai. But it is one of the most well built frames and chassis i have ever seen. i was made to hold power but it just needed a more powerful motor to make that power, no one realized that the motor couldnt and wont hold up under higher amounts of torque and horsepower. I mean the damn hyundai company stated that the hp on the car was 181 at first when the car came out and then they realized they messed up and brought it down to 171. No biggie though. The block of the tib is much more different than the v6 eclipse block. the block is usually the first thing to go under the engine of the tib along with half the internals, mounts, and anything else you can think of. Which is the point of the swap. to have a more reliable and powerful engine to make a car that looks fast actually fast. I love the looks of the tib and i dont think much of anything really competes with it...

No it isn't, he has a 2.7 and the Eclipse has a 3.0.

This is true. The 2.7 has minimal similarities but is still similar in a few ways. The mounts are similar in measurement and style, the cranks are very similar as well, the head measurements are very close if not identical except one is DOHC and the eclipse is SOHC, the trannys are very close, but otherwise they are diffferent...

if you're hellbent on putting the 6g72tt into your tiburon... have you considered making it into a rwd so you can put some wider tires on and be able to use some of that torque off the line?

came across a great running 3.0 out of a stealth. i am going to attempt to swap it into my 99RS. and believe me, anything is possible. if i can stuff a 400 big block in an 87 RX-7, i think this should work. any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. thanx!

I have seen a picture of a 3G Eclipse motor stuffed into a 2gnt but I do not think they are as wide as stealth motors, I had a stealth and that thing sucked ass. And what is a 400 bb? As far as I knew, they were all small blocks aside from the oldsmobile 403 which was a bb. ford's 351m and chevy's 400 were both small blocks.

Sorry your to late, already done. Check out this. It was a crapy job though. It was on ebay about a week ago. He said it would run with any turbo eclipse. I though it was funny seeing the motor in there. Check out the radiator brackets and top hose. People these days....

Chriw21,

Close but no cigar :). The motor above is nt motor from chrylser/3G vehicles. It is not the same motor as used on 3000GT.

The 3000GT motor has the same orientation as DSM 4G63 (timing belt on DS) and fitting it in the NT DSM would be MUCH more difficult.

I will agree with you that above car is a joke... :)

You got it! I would much rather have a turbo'ed NT 4banger over this car.

You want to be different? Save youself a bunch of money and buying this silver car. As it is back on e-bay :) The guy can't sell it...

you cant even do the 2.5L v6 swap into a 5spd car, it has to be auto, and on top of that 3KGT motor swaps have been tried, i havnt herd any resaults, i am from ovid NY and your 400sm in an 87 rx-7 has been done all to many times, we has an 89 with a 94 trans am LT1 w/6 speed, those cars has boat loads of room for what they are, if you want to do a swap no one had done swap the AWD an 4g63 out of an evo8 i have seen a few wrecked ones already, if you do go ahead with the 3KGT swap and it works out post it everywhere, you would be the first i have herd of... this is just all of ours $.02, do what ever floats your boat

Ive been looking at a new project. My idea is to install a 6G72 Twin turbo from a JDM 3000GT into a dsm. Basically I was wondering if i would have the first GSX VR-4? If anyone already went threw this let me know and let me know what the major pain in the @ss crap will be. On top of that has anyone in here put a sypder body on a GSX frame. I have seen it before im looking on for some in depth info on it. My pipe dream  would wear a badge on the back that says "GSX VR-4 Sypder" sounds dope huh? Thanks!
