I marked mine the day I swapped them out so I wouldn’t get them mixed up LOL, if you still want a number off of it I can go check, and the face of the converter is just about even flush with the output shaft splines like your pic:thumb:

Point of advice, before you get too far change that filter you have for one that's OEM or has two/three feed holes for the filter.

Find one that looks like this.

Trust me on this one.
Funny sure enough that’s what came off the trans

Jeremy, do you have any automatic half shaft yet? I got mine mixed up and need to know how to identify the auto shafts from the 5 speed shafts :banghead: The mounting brackets have a number in them but I don't know what is what. Stupid me, didn't mark any of them. Thanks if you have any help for me!
Super job on the trans, I'll look on my thread and see if i posted a measurement on the converter depth.
Marty
Here’s the 2 of them, 91 auto half shaft up top, 90 5 spd on the bottom.

Sorry, 91 auto on the LEFT LOL

Thanks J Man! Are there any Identifying #'s on the Brackets themselves? I have rebuild kits for them and got them all fkn mixed up. Thank you!
M ✌️

The AT filter that Cory showed is the best one. It won't cavitate if fluid is just getting back to the pan.
Some other mods are the return line going back to the pan, I believe. I'm sure pulling for ya for INSPIRATION :thumb:

Looking awesome! Is that the trans fluid John recommended or was it just something you picked?
I also swapped my little plastic filter. It's actually thicker and you can still buy them online surprisingly.

I’m going with that fluid because it’s what Adrianna Noonan ran:) Monkey see Monkey do I guess LOL, I never asked John what he recommends, I was considering the John Deere Hygard, but I don’t know

Holy Cow those oem filters are pricey LOL, best price I found was on amayama.

I will absolutely change out the plastic one, thank you for pointing that out @CrackedDSM :thumb:

Unless I got some foreign knockoff this is what I bought and I matched it up to my oem filter. They look and feel identical.

Marty and cracked would know way more, I'm still learning these autos.

Yep, Amayama OEM filter, this way no choke issues if you're pushing the car and the trans is thirsty for fluid to drink. $75 shipped is better than $300 shipping trans to John to rebuild. Hahaha

The Parts context is different here, you're gonna make power and spin it up hard, average person driving for groceries can get away with much more.

What exactly is the difference between them? I honestly would like to know more. I'm pretty new to messing with these autos. My biggest first mistake was not knowing about that pilot bushing when I swapped from a manual to an auto. I'm learning everyday.

Thank You! I’ll check for other numbers on the half shafts when I get back home :thumb:
Thanks Jeremy. Just plain ass stupid on my end.
Jesse, these motors are the only ones that I have ever built that took a pilot bushing for the automatic. My Chevys, Saturn, Dodge and Ford stuff only use a pilot bushing for a standard transmission, so I think its weird, but YES, you need it for the converter to center.

Thank you Sir!!! 😊

DTR suggested that OEM filter too.

Post a pic of the top and bottom of the OEM filter, even measure the openings if you're curious, you can add great info for future search members.

That info is just flow and somewhat filter capacity, material is harder to gauge and you'd need to get new filters, etc etc, not worth it after you see the above since you'll take the flow improvement alone.

Good call on the OEM or OEM style filter. As long as it has the extra holes you’re good. The $30 filter posted works great too.

If you log line pressure especially on hard launches(especially on a 62mm turbo) with both you’ll see the difference.

I miss my autos. :(

Today I began prepping my Trans mount brackets and dipstick tube for paint, just touching them up with a wire brush nothing crazy.
IMG_3490.jpeg
I’ll paint them tomorrow, but also wanted to share some cheesy but exciting news, next Tuesday my Frontline Fab tcase brace FINALLY shows up after almost 4 months LOL, so that’ll be headed to Boostin next Wednesday, and Wednesday my Boosted Fab Trans mount shows up, AND I should have my new Vulcan headgasket and hopefully have the motor back in by next weekend! :D:rocks::hellyeah:

So this is what I just ordered, if it matches up to my old oem one I’m running it, I’m not paying $100 plus for a marked up oem one, let’s be real, there’s always a million other things that can go wrong LOL, if this filter is structurally identical, I don’t see the big deal, it’s like running a 6 bolt ACL oil pump over an oem front cover, which is also discontinued LOL

I’ll pair it up to the original, and the cheap plastic one that came with my $1000 rebuild kit LOL

Just a revision, I’m not knocking the IPT kit, I’d highly recommend it, and I can’t say enough about how awesome and helpful John has been, despite being a little surprised it came with a “cheaper” version of the filter, I now understand with the oem being discontinued it makes sense, so again, I have zero regrets with his kit, and God Bless John from IPT LOL, he’s a good dude :hellyeah:

I did match up the metal one with the metal one that was already on. I literally seen zero difference. I don't think it's oem but it's identical so I'll take that. Like said above I'm not sure on the actual filter part of it though. I just couldn't stand that little skinny plastic one.
