So I just finished my AWD swap.

Went for the first start, cranks no start, tried a couple more rimes and it started but was running like crap on 2 cylinders. I shut it down now the starter just spins like it's not engaging I'm now so concerned about the running like crap part but more about the starter no engaging properly or at all.

Keep in mind that it worked a couple times then no more...

I removed the starter and bench test it and it shoots and spins. I have other starters to test just didn't had the time. I'm just posting if anyone has any insight, I'll try another starter but if that doesn't work I'll have to drop the trans again to see what's up.

I can spin the engine by hand nothing grinds or sounds funny I even put it in gear and pushed the car and I can see the engine spinning .

Trans is a 2gb
Brand new 2g AWD starter plate
Brand new Fidanza AWD flywheel
Same clutch I had in before
Same starter
Car ran fine 2 weeks before while FWD

Please help LOL I was so excited for first drive.

So you are sure that you have the correct parts and all were installed properly, and it was cranking normal and then suddenly zero engaging? Not even grinding?
If the starter is totally not engaging, maybe the ring gear came off from the flywheel or got loose. Fidanza flywheel utilizes bolts to hold the ring gear, did you check all the ring gear bolts were torqued down before installing the flywheel?

Pull the starter and inspect the flywheel ring gear teeth.

Hey! yes I'll get a small prybar and try to spin the flywheel maybe it did come loose or worse... it broke if not then I have no idea what could it be.... I'm trying to exhaust all option before a drop the transmission again
By the way I find that some people say the 2g turbo starters are the same then how come they have different part number...

Hey guys thanks for all the suggestions I literally don't see anything wrong
By your suggestions I
Doble check ground
Flywheel ring gear is solid
I used a battery jump starer just in case battery was weak
And no! Same issue I can hear the starter spinning.
Call me crazy but I have a feeling that the starter is spinning over the flywheel that would make sense that is was working before with the fwd flywheel..
Shouldn't the starter plate position it lower?

Shouldn't the starter plate position it lower?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the starter plate just basically acts as a shim. It does nothing for the vertical position of the starter. That's where the starter bolts that go through the trans come into play.

The AWD flywheel is smaller than the FWD. I'm honestly not sure if the starters between AWD and fwd are the same though.

Is the engine actually turning over anymore?

I was about to post what @Anfurnyy posted. The starter plate is just a shim. The transmission will position the starter. If you have another starter, try it and tell us what happens.

Hey guys so Yes problem solved i replaced the starter actually replaced the housing where the bendix lives it turns out the old housing it has cracked and didn't alighted properly also the bendix has kinda meh so I replaced everything.... now it spins still have no start tho and no oil pressure what are the odds... first "start" after awd swap and doesn't start starter dies and no oil pressure (used a drill on the pump to check)
Dsm life....
Well it's been over 13 years on this engine nor a single issue till now...
Thanks guys

I have had 1 or 2 motors that didn't want to prime but I threw caution to the wind and fired them up, eyes glued to the oil pressure gauge, and they both caught oil and made pressure. I, myself, lube the oil pump with breakin lube to try to avoid "no oil pressure" but sometimes that doesn't even get it. Now if the pressure didn't come in a few seconds, I'd kill the motor and double check everything.
Hell one night I worked til 2am putting a motor in my 1970 Chevelle SS then went to bed. Next day, thru 5 qt's of oil in and tried 1st start. She fired up but NO oil pressure. Looked under the car and had 5 qts on the floor. I forgot to put the filter on. :ohdamn: It didn't hurt the motor and I quit working that late without FINISHING.
