Hello everyone! I just purchased my 1996 Eclipse GST a few months ago, had some issues with a few different things. Most recent was car was smoking and running very uneasy, so I decided to pull the engine. I am going to do a full engine rebuild-ish, I bought new wisco heads, still looking at the rods I want, if there’s anything anyone thinks I should buy and upgrade I would love help! Trying to push more power but not an insane amount seeing how I want this to be more of a daily but not quite. Thank you guys!

Awesome, that is a great picture thank you. So the field coil and ground go onto the same bolt on the opposite side? Cause that’s probably why I wasn’t getting power to my starter.

Three connections on the driver side of the starter:
Red cap ring terminal - post on firewall side
Square field coil terminal - post opposite the red cap
Single black connector - space terminal above both posts

There is also a large ring terminal connection to one of the starter mounting bolts on the passenger side - this one should be direct from the negative battery terminal. It must go between the bolt head and the bell housing, not between the starter and the bell housing. See the black arrow.

Yes yes! The arrow is the ground I was looking for! That’s the one I thought went to my coolant housing. So that wire there, though goes straight to the negative on my battery. Not the starter? Or does it and I just don’t see.

The side shown in the photo that the arrow points to is “connected” (electrically) to the starter because it touches one of its mounting bolts.

The other end of that cable will attach to the negative battery terminal.

Awesome. Thank you so so much, you’re my savior man. Seriously thank you. I’ll get it all hooked up and connected when I am home, my new fuel cable gets in today too.

So I got my new fuel line, it’s way too long. About 5-10 feet too long. If I cut it, how do I do it show it does fray? Also, for the starter solenoid, how do I make sure it’s engaging? My starter worked great before so I don’t think it’s broken. Does anyone see it in this photo? I think I was missing that ground wire last time, so I’m betting money that was its problem. But even still, I want to make sure I do this right.

Okay so good news and bad news. Good news is I installed a fuel line, and my starter works, and the engine turns over, (i have not ran it yet, just cranked it.) the bad news is that the new fuel line is just leaking, none stop. The hose is good, it’s at the meeting points, I just can’t seem to get it right. All it does is want to leak and leak, everywhere.

Did yiu have to assemble the hose ends? AN fittings are difficult to assemble.

So it was a straight pipe, I put on a fitting, then put in the little metal circle piece that is supposed to act as a flare and then tighten it all down.

Did you push the hose all the way into the socket? There's also a chance that even if you did, the hose backed out while tightening the fitting with the male thread.

Also, if you're going to replace the fuel feed line, you may want to consider running the line all the way to the fuel pump outlet, and not to the stock hose that then connects to the hanger outlet.

I will consider changing that for sure, just right now I want to get it running. I found my problem, I took it to my buddies at a hose specialty place. They told me my male to make fittings were wrong, so I’ve bought new ones, and they fit so so much better. Going to go try them out and install them right now.

Dude, if you’ve never messed with fuel line fittings, that’s how they be.. connections must be clean and in order.. GLAD TO HEAR IT TURNS OVER..!!! That’s friggen great man

Make sure it’s got water and oil, have a buddy squirt small shots of starter fluid into the intake and crank it man.. at least you’ll be able to hear it fire up..

Show us the kit again and pics of your install if u have it
I will. I’ll take some more photos and send them.

So it’s still just dumping fuel, car can’t start because of it. It’ll crank, but absolutely no chance of starting, when it’s fuel is on the ground. Would love help, I’m so lost with this stupid fuel line. Can I just use tephlon between the 2 pieces? Because I don’t know what else to do.

Don't lose sight of the end. This is high pressure fuel. If needs to be done correctly. A mistake or rushed process burns the car to the ground then all of this was for nothing.

Yeah no kidding, I am scared of that happening. I know the new hose I bought is JIC, I don’t know if the original ones are, or if the fuel filter is. Anyone know why it’d be still leaking? What else do I need to check, or make sure is fitting correctly?

I tried a few times, but I’m not going too anymore until this leak is fixed.

Should I get a 2 side JIC male to male, and see if that fixes it? Or just take the hose and trash it.

Apologies if this has been talked about, didnt have time to read...but can you tighten it anymore? When I did mine a couple of months ago, I leaked twice before i got it because what I thought was tight just wasnt tight enough. The difference between leaking and not leaking really seemed like it was a hair of a turn. Especially since I didnt think i could tighten it anymore with the lack of space using 1 large wrench to prevent the filter from turning an a line wrench to actually tighten the fitting.

I will Try it, I have to grab another crescent wrench, the plumber wrench is terrible and not doing the job.

Words of wisdom my friend..

Dude, ya gotta have at least a set of decent combo wrenches.. your using stuff for gas lines, but there for natural gas..!!

No. If i recall the stok filter isn't JIC. This isnt the time to guess. Show us the hose kit
The inside of the hose is coned, I don’t know about the original though. I took it to a shop and the guy told me it was JIC. But the stock filter I have the flat sides towards. I am going to try and tighten them, we shall see what happens. I hope it’s just me going to loose on both sides. Is there anything else you guys think I should try?

I have a great set of wrench’s, but they go from 8-17 and none fit the stock pipes. So I have to grab another crescent wrench to hold them both.
