I want to rebuild my engine and after a suggestion from my tuner to go 2.2L i have searching and reading a lot of threads to find out more about this build. It seems the best combo / results is the build from English Racing with K1 94mm crank - R&R 153mm rods - Wiseco HD2 pistons at 3200$. If the crack is replaced with a Manley the price is dropping under 3k and much more with an Eagle one. The other ways to get a 2.2L kit at a decent price is from Manley. There are 2 kits : 7 Bolt 4G63 / 2.2L / 94mm Crank / 156mm Rods and 7 Bolt 4G63 / 2.2L / 94mm Crank / 150mm Rods both at 2100$. As far as i have read those 2 are not 2.2...they are 2.1 Long Rods and 2.1. I just want to get some thoughts about which build should i choose. Thanks a lot!

Awhile back I put together a chart of different stroke setups, may help you decide:

(I can't seem to get the new link feature to work on my computer so here it is ^^)

There are various options out there for this, depends on how much money you are willing to spend and what goal you have for the engine. I would just recommend trying to get a rod piston combo which does not require custom sizes since it will help to keep that cost down.

Also are you stroking a 4g63 or destoking a 4g64? Both will result in different engine geometry while producing the same engine displacement.

I personally feel a 2.2 4g64 destroker is the best setup since you can better utilize the taller deck height, and 4g64 blocks are very cheap.

That chart doesn't have the 94mm crank with 153mm rods option. I had a look at this chart...this is way i'm saying the manley rotary is 2.1L. My engine is 4g63 so i was thinking to rebuild this one instead to buy a 4g64 block and start from there. To have a rod-piston combo which is not custom made the only choice is to get a 150mm or 156mm rod. From what i see in the chart the 156mm will have a better rod ratio. The only question is if this combo is worth the money or an extra 1k for English Racing setup will make a difference.

I'll have to remember to update my chart then to include the 153mm rods.

Without having used the english racing kit your talking about, all I can say is that R&R makes some of the lightest/strongest h-beams out there along with Carrillo. K1 cranks are also great.

If you went with the 156mm rod option, I would recommend turbo-tuff lightweight straight beams. For this option you would have to use a 1.012" comp height pistons. Manley has these off the shelf as well.

Which ever setup you choose, both will have very strong cranks, rods and pistons.

Thanks for your reply. I found another kit for 3200$ GSC Power-Division 2.2L XR-1.7 4G63T:

Power-Division 4340 Billet Crankshaft (33 pounds, 94mm Stroke) knife edged and balanced
Power-Division Spec Carrillo Custom Forged H-Beam Connecting Rods for 1.66 Rod Ratio
CP Piston kit, 9310 Wrist Pins included Short skirt design

Right now i have a stock engine with an FP3582HTA, Fp race manifold, Fp O2 housing, Megan Racing exhaust with downpipe, Tail V-band wastegate, ETS 10'' race intercooler, dual Walbro fuel pumps with Fuelab regulator, EcmLink V3 tuned for SD. I have 360whp right now at 24psi and i broke the center differential spiders first time and after i welded i had broken the 3rd/4rd gear hub. So i have to get a good transmission and rebuild my engine so i can use my setup at a full potential.
Hard to make a decision :)

So after many days looking for parts and talking with different engine builder i decide to rebuild the engine myself and just order the parts that i need. To rebuild it in US i had to buy another engine and then get it shipped to Europe. I'll save up to 3k maybe more if i'm getting it done home. The thing is i'll need some help to decide what i should order...and after...to rebuild the engine. Fist i'm thinking if i should go 2.2L with billet crank and 153mm rods or i should go with forged crank and 150mm rods. I've seen posts where people are making 600whp with eagle rods and OEM crank. I'm not trying to brake any record and the setup i have now i think it will stay for a long time...but i would like to have an engine that can hold more hp then my setup is capable to make. So far i narrow my build to those options.
- Manley billet crank/ R&R 153mm rods/ Wiseco HD pistons- 2600$
- Eagle forged crank/ R&R 153mm rods/ Wiseco HD pistons- 2000$
- Eagle forged crank/Eagle 150mm rosds/ Wiesco or Manley pistons - 1500$

I would like to hear some suggestion from you guys.
Please understand it's very difficult to build a dsm in europe because the parts have to came from US...shipping cost is a lot...and on top of that you have to pay import fee.
Thanks!

I would recommend using the eagle 150mm rod option. there are a slew of good piston options for that setup that keep compression at 8.5 to 9/1. the extra 3mm rod doesnt do anything valuable. the change in length just isnt large enough. and the pistons for those setups are made for 2.3 engines. so the compression ends up very unfavorable. unless you are looking to run e85 I woould recommend hoing over 9/1. KISS method is the way to go here.
i recommend mahle pistons. they have 8.8 to one compression pistons made with 2618 alloy for the 94mm crank.
