Hello everyone! I just purchased my 1996 Eclipse GST a few months ago, had some issues with a few different things. Most recent was car was smoking and running very uneasy, so I decided to pull the engine. I am going to do a full engine rebuild-ish, I bought new wisco heads, still looking at the rods I want, if there’s anything anyone thinks I should buy and upgrade I would love help! Trying to push more power but not an insane amount seeing how I want this to be more of a daily but not quite. Thank you guys!

Yep, it was very very hard to flare it, and im not sure I did it very correct so I want to make sure it will not come lose and leak fuel, but im not sure.
DUDE... i hope you have a tubing cutter to cut the line... it makes for a nice clean cut for your flare

So I did, I cut the tube correctly and perfectly. Now the flaring on the other hand, was not super nice. The tool would not grab the pipe so it didn’t really work, it seems to be flared and holds super well, but im not an expert.

ok I will send a picture of it. My harmonic balancer seemed good honesty, but it had some chip in jt, a decent sized one. So I replaced it anyways. I’ll send the picture too.
Trying to catch up on this build, on page 24 here. I wish photos were put in the thread at this point I must say would be much easier to follow along and see what’s going on.

Okay, I can add more photos if you’d like. What would you say I should add more of? Also welcome, thank you for following along. LOL

Well....they're usually self explanatory. You can see the inverted flare surface of the nut and only one side is threaded to go into the filter.
Yep I got the bolt on correctly and facing the right direction. I’ve got my part the small vapor 2 way filter. That’s the one I meant, when I said I didn’t know the direction. But I found an online photo to help.

Going to put this last piece on, and we’re starting the engine back in tonight. There is one yellow connector, or it’s yellow in the inside. Trying to figure out where it goes.

I also don’t know which is the starter and coolant housing with the little connector, but I will send photos of both in a second.

Sir yes sir. 🫡

Is there anything I want to triple check that I have to make sure she’ll start while the engine is out or no? It’ll be so much easier to do anything right now because it’s out. If anyone thinks im missing literally anything, let me know so I can recheck or take off. I am like 97% sure I did the pistons, rings and everything correctly. It spins nicely, no weird noises or anything.

I’m putting the harness on first, I think I put the first ground correctly onto the starter, where does the second go? And where does that last cable go?

If anyone has time, im on top of things right now, and trying my hardest to get this done almost all of not all, tonight. If anyone is free to help, because ill be asking questions often.

I’ve done just about every single thing I can think of for this car, but I can’t figure out where these 3 cables go. I feel like I didn’t put something back, they’re huge cables so it’s so hard to miss something this big right? I also need to replace a tie rod end, but the stupid thing just keeps spinning. Also, have absolutely zero clue where this hose goes too. Would love any help, hopefully soon. I’m so so so close!!!! LOL

There appears to be one more I have missed. Way down there in the middle, any ideas? This is behind my intake manifold by the way.

So as of right now I’ll double check tomorrow of course, but I’m missing 4 plug in spots, because I’m either blind or a horrible looker. And then I have one hose on the make of the intake, and an open circle on a little black thing on the charcoal canister. I was thinking it went to that, but the hose doesn’t fit over unless really really forced, and even then it slipped off multiple times. I’ll send pictures of that tomorrow. Grabbed some new visors today along with my 2 way vapor piece, super excited. Thank you all for all of the help until now. I am shocked how long I’ve stuck this out, and pray it’ll all be worth it tomorrow. Let me know if you guys know the cables or the hose, and if I need to do anything before I try starting the engine. I know to prime it first, but besides that I don’t know.

Sorry for the long paragraphs and bunch of messages, I am very excited for this car. I worked on it over 8 hours today in a row, after driving 6 hours for parts.

Anyone happen to know those cords? And where they go? Did I not put something else in the car? I mean they don’t reach far so that have to go somewhere by the fuse box. And the hoses in the back, still have no idea where they go.

dude, sounds to me like you need to step back and take a breath.. those plugs usually only fit the mating side.. one of those big ones look like it goes under the throttle body (ISC)..look at it this way,the other ends have to be in there, right???? do you still have the cruise control in there?? AC..??

I might need to take a second. The big ones are by my turbo, and do not reach more than 2-3 inch’s. The throttle body is connected with all plugs, and the ac is too. The cruise control I have no idea to be honest.

But you are correct, they have to be there and I have no other parts to install. Everything is in the car and plugged in, besides about 2-4 things.

I just can’t take a break though. 😂 I’m too excited and so close to being able to drive my favorite car again. I’ve been dying to get this thing running.

lemme go and dig around in my car, too friggen hot right now tho.. by the turbo eh?? is your front o2 sensor plugged in?? the cruise would be passenger side in front of battery and have two throttle cables in it.. i took that crap off.. less weight equals quicker times.. i had to fashion a throttle cable that i stole from my 3G and it wasnt fun..

if ya do things to fast, things get crossed up and more damage is done.. but im with you about getting it running..!!!

Yes, I am almost positive I plugged that in. I’ll send photos soon. It’s to the left of the turbo, 2 giants lookin plugs. There’s 2 more I need I’ll send those locations when I am home.

Yep, I have been going slow and taking my time to do it right. Paul told me how to make sure I don’t screw up. 😎

Maybe the plugs could go to the cooling fans, that’s about all I see on mine as far as plugs..

Paul knows his shit..!!! Pic one is where the cruise used to be and the empty plug..
Pic 2: this is the front o2 sensor which I have a dummy plug for, I relocated mine further back as not to cook it..
Pic 3: this is the plug for the secondary fan (AC)
Pic 4: this is the new throttle cable I put in after removing the cruise..
Pic 5: a general view of the throttle body area..

I have my fans plugged in. Would you like me to send a video? Would that help show you the strand or location better?

I mean, these have to go to something fairly important, they’re big plugs, thick ones that should power something important. It’s almost as big as the throttle body one.

It’s one the other side of the turbo, that’s why you didn’t see it!! That makes more sense.

So I am indeed an idiot. They did connect… so that’s awkward. But there are 2 I still don’t know where they go. One behind my intake manifold, and another by the coolant housing, and the coolant housing ones are connected, pretty sure there’s only 2. So I got these 2, and a hose problem. There’s a nipple on the back of my intake manifold, and I got zero idea where it goes. I was thinking maybe the air canister, but it doesn’t reach, nor fit on the piping.

First start up did not go as planned, surprise surprise. It seems the starter is either disconnected or not doing anything to the fly wheel. No spinning it, no nothing. And my fuel filter and flaring did not go right, it is dumping fuel onto the ground next to my car, give it a listen. So I will be swapping out for a steel braided line, or whatever else you guys think will work. Hopefully you’ll know how long of a line I’ll need.

What do we think about this one? I think it’ll work pretty good. just how many feet do I want? 15-20?

Better to have too much than not enough.
True… I might have to get a second later though, my bank account is not for 2 currently. 😂 know anything about my starter just making noise? Nothing is happening. It’s not even touching the flywheel it sounds like, and it doesn’t sound like a dead battery.

Not sure on that one. Hope you figure it out though

Pic says 20ft, so wouldnt two of those be 40ft? Anyway, 20ft should be fine if you're running tank to filter. I would probably go with stainless steel braided since its under the car. You'll need an m14x1.5 female to -6AN to connect at the fuel pump housing outlet, and m14x1.5 male -6AN at the fuel filter
