Hello everyone! I just purchased my 1996 Eclipse GST a few months ago, had some issues with a few different things. Most recent was car was smoking and running very uneasy, so I decided to pull the engine. I am going to do a full engine rebuild-ish, I bought new wisco heads, still looking at the rods I want, if there’s anything anyone thinks I should buy and upgrade I would love help! Trying to push more power but not an insane amount seeing how I want this to be more of a daily but not quite. Thank you guys!

True… I might have to get a second later though, my bank account is not for 2 currently. 😂 know anything about my starter just making noise? Nothing is happening. It’s not even touching the flywheel it sounds like, and it doesn’t sound like a dead battery.
Kinda does sound like a weak battery to me, maybe the solenoid??

Yep, I am gonna install the ends, looks fairly easy. And has a tutorial.
I dunno, it has to hold at least 45 psi and gas is really thin and leaks easy.. good luck.. how did you make that flare that’s leaking..??

It can hold over 1500 psi and 4500 burst. The flare was halfway made by a press and needle nose.

The solenoid that pulls the teeth into the ring gear on the flywheel..
Um, how do I check and make sure? I was told by someone it can break.

Hear a bunch clicking? Battery diesnt have enough juice.
There is an absolute ton of clicking. I will charge the battery tomorrow.

Show us the flare tool you used and you're gonna have to undo it anyway so show us the flare.
This exact one, but from harbor freight, and it also didn’t fit fully around the pipe, so it only flared part of it, and the. I used a needle nose for the rest. I know it would hold.

Don’t these go together? Check the wire colors if you can or trace back the one in the second pic to verify where it goes. I believe it goes to the starter.

They did indeed go together, thank you very much. I got those all hooked up. I think I’m missing a hose or 2 and then just that starter with its Noises.

Clarify for me - you had these connected already before I posted?

If not, try starting it again.

Did you disconnect the wires directly at the starter at any point during your engine removal? Do you have the ground from the negative battery terminal to one of the starter mounting bolts?

They come with their own fittings, flared and red to go. It’s why it’s a lot nicer.
I’m sure it would be allot nicer, but, the picture you show is a ‘one size fits all’ kind of deal.. therefore YOU would have to make sure that the connections were tight and leak free, see what I’m getting at..??

Maybe that’s for your water temp.. look at your thermostat housing and see if there is a single spade fitting.. just a guess right now

Yep, all the plugs are connected. LOL

So my problem with this starter is, it has 2 cables into it all ready, not I have no idea which is the power, and ground. For the cables or their placement, but there is another ground, going from my battery linkage, right to the starters area, should it connect to the starter? I also have one more ground wire, from behind my intake manifold to what I think was my coolant housing.

Starter solenoid - in the first picture here, you see connection I pointed out for the starter solenoid. To the left of the circled connector, you see a ground wire attached to one of the starter mounting bolts.

Positive battery cable / starter motor - in this post, you’ll see the two connections to the starter. One is under the protective red rubber cap and should be a ring terminal. The other is a spade connector attaching to the solenoid.

Please post pictures of whatever else you’re needing help with. There is no ground that goes to the thermostat housing.

So I see the starter has that one connection with the rubber red cap, I have that one connected. And the spade is too. But the other side is a square connection over the bolt, and I have no idea where it goes.

This is a ground that goes to something, I thought it was my coolant housing or transmission bolts, something I don’t know. The other grounding wire is connected straight to my battery and goes down to where the starter is, however I’m not sure if it connects to it or not.

I was talking about #37 of snowboarders connection post, not quite thermos housing

On another note, my fuel line gets in today thanks to Amazon. Was triple checking to make sure, this is my fuel line correct? The rubber hydraulic line looks identical to the other 2. It also has the coupling like piece.

Intake manifold to firewall ground - you can attach that to an exposed aluminum surface under a bolt head where the throttle cable housing bolts down for tension adjustment.

The square metal “spade” connection - the field coil wire?

Goes to the post on the starter OPPOSITE the one with the red cap, to the B post. Disconnect your battery before attempting to reconnect it.

That would be the thermostat housing. That’s not a ground.

Where does it connect on the intake manifold? I feel like that’s such a weird ground.
Literally any threaded hole on the manifold that you can connect it to.

This is such a great photo. Thank you so much. I have the battery disconnected. I will reattempt to attach it and let you know how it goes. And yes, I was talking about the field wire, and it was opposite of the one with the red cap, because this bolt had nothing on it. Just so I understand, field wire in B and there’s supposed to be a ground on M, but how do I know if that’s a ground of live wire? The switch is the only one I know I have done right, because there’s only one place it goes. Does the field coil go with the ground?

Because I still have a ground hanging above.

Red cap connection goes to the firewall side of the starter. Photo from here.
