I’m pulling the motor on my 92 talon tsi awd. The engine has just the motor mounts connected, but I’m curious to if I need to disconnect the driveshaft? I know this probably sounds like a stupid question but it’s my first engine pull, so try to be kind

Take the tcase off and you can leaving the driveshaft connected to the tcase. Use a 2x4 or something to keep the rear of the tcase elevated when you leave it on the ground. This will keep the fluid from leaking out the tcase.

You won't need to remove the driveshaft from the car, but it does need to be disconnected as you say, just not in the locations you have pictured.

Unbolt the t-case from the transmission and wiggle it off, then the driveshaft should slide out of the rear of the transfer case. I've always used a jack-stand to hold up the driveshaft in place, don't let it hang in the air. Then I just set the transfer case to the side, ensuring the rear of it is pointed up.

I agree with both methods. I usually take the T-case off and support the driveshaft with anything (I have a farm, bayling wire works for me) so it wont sag and hang. I also sit the Tcase with the back seal higher than the front end of it to keep the fluid from running out. Then disconnect all wires, hoses and cables (grab masking tape and LABEL EVERYTHING).
Dont forget about the knock sensor plug under the intake manifold and ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING since this is your first time. All of us can make sure you don't make a mistake that we have already made. :thumb:
The only stupid question is the one you DIDN'T ASK. :)

I appreciate the help! I was able to remove the t case off of the trans and slide it off of the driveshaft. However.. I did read that thing about not putting your back seal higher, at least I caught it quick 😅
