Ive read up and i currently have the head off, and the engine completely unbolted, I have the clearance, however when i go to slide the engine out of the trans, it gets caught on something right after dowl pins come out, I just got done reading that you have to "clear the flywheel out of the cv axles." My car is AWD, Is the engine not sliding out due to the transfercase?

plenty of room with water pump and mounts off. My question was about the transfer case.

my bottom is completely stripped.

Transfer case only bolts to transmission if I recall correctly. Are your axles out? The half shaft on drivers side anchors into the block.

no axles in but half shaft unbolted, the block moves free and has plenty of room, either the metal thing between is touching the transfer case, or something else is up

i read you have to take transfer case off to pull auto trans

Just pull it, it's 5 bolts. And yeah I'm not familiar with auto.

I don't know what to tell you bud, I was trying to help. If a job takes 5 minutes and it might fix your issue why not do it? Are you just trying to find out the bare minimum work you have to do? Are you doing 20 of these a day? I'm not quite getting why you're trying to find the path of least resistance on this one. Just unbolt things that are connected until it comes out. There's only so many things it could even be.

Get under there with a flashlight and figure out what it's catching on.

And you haven't posted up a picture so we're flying blind trying to help you out.

Auto experts , can you chime in?

However you may have all the time in the world, I dont, so I see no reason crawling under the car with a engine lift legs and a bunch of pine needles to unbolt something that doesnt need to come off. However im fairly sure it does have to come off, in my down time I was asking if neccisary, I dont watch teardown videos to jusy unbolt stuff tell it comes out, thanks for your help though,.

As for the torque converter it has not once been mentioned in any post ive seen, and im not even sure where it is on this car or how it bolts up or unbolts, but the engine seems to be attached to something inside, I did read the tc slides into bellhousing?

Ps id post a pic but I dont think visuals are necessary due to im not having a problem you can visually see. Thanks

You have to unbolt the torque converter from the flex plate. It is 4 bolts, you can access them by rotating the motor to see the bolts on the front side of the engine/trans. if you look at your oil return line, it will be to the left of the return line. Usually there is an inspection plate there. If yours is there, unbolt it from the trans and block (by the oil pan). Once the torque converter is unbolted (4 bolts), you should be able to push torque converter in a small amount. Torque converter will stay inside trans. Motor will come out super easy. Hope this helps.

Okay, All done, Thanks Jerzm3 for that helpful info, I figured it out before I read it though. But for future people who do this job,
Pull the water pump for clearance pull transfer case out a few inchs dont have to drop it. slide engine out a few inchs, unbolt 4 torque converter bolts while holding at crank.
and then it will seperate mine was hard to pull off after that it lifts right out! Made out to be way harder then it is if you know what your doing.
