Havent driven the car for a little while because I've got a transmission leak and I think I've finally found it.

Looks like one of the transmission mid case > bell housing bolts stripped out. I dont remember this happening when I put it back together but it must have happened. Anyways now I get to helicoil it. I'm sure as hell not taking the transmission apart to do it soo wish me luck on doing it in the car LOL

I thought about helicoiling it from the backside of it was an open hole but of course it's not.

Ughhhhh!

Helicoil in the car successfully worked, I think. Drive the car to work today and didn't see any leaks / drips when I parked. I'll check again after work.

I've enabled closed loop boost again to try and get that dialed in. Should be a fun process. I noticed that Kenny had pulled 15% wastegate duty cycle in 1st and 5% wastegate duty cycle in 2nd on the trim tables.. which means I was loosing out on that much duty cycle. I'm pretty sure it was like that when I went to the track. So that attributes to my low boost situation too.

Anyways this closed loop boost stuff with the PID Values is a bit confusing but I'm working through it. I'm planning on replacing the street tire setup for some 15" slipstream setup and some MT ET Street SS because this thing just doesn't hook anymore. Tired ARE old too but well see. I don't really have $2k sitting around for a wheel and tire setup.

Another good bit of news for myself is that our local 1/8 mile track is reopening hopefully in May so I'll be able to drive about 45 minutes to a track and run!

If the lighting was at a better angle, that would be a great photo for a t-shirt. :)

WEEEELLLLL might be out of either turbo or turbine housing..

Messed with some closed loop boost after work and targeted 45psi and the closed loop kept the wastegate duty at 90% the whole time and managed to make a peak of... 41lbs LOL

So yeah. I might try swapping turbine housings to this 1.01 or just call it with the setup as is. It definitely still feels pretty spicyy 🔥

I think I'd like to scooch over to a xona setup. Unfortunately With Morrison Fab not taking orders for awhile that will be postponed.

Okay okay I said I found my leak but now I think I ACTUALLY found it. Followed the leak up and found the reverse idler gear shaft bolt wasn't even hand tight.. it was loose.

I'll tighten that up and see if it still leaks. I think there might still be a small driver side axle seal leak but we'll see.

Also took my little brother for a ride yesterday and he got a couple short videos. Good time!

Alrighty my dudes I'm finally making the switch to HD clamps. Not any of the crazy name brand ones because I don't have that kind of dough. Lol
Also switching over to a aluminum 90° off the compressor housing too.

I'll be doing 5 of them:
One off each side of the intercooler
One off the compressor housing
One off the throttle body
And one that's splits the pipe between throttle body and intercooler

Clamps

AND GSC got back to me finally about a replacement s2 cam.... $425 for a SINGLE cam. New SET from extreme psi... $600..

Hey look at that my picture uploading is fixed LOL

Been slacking on updating but life's been busy.

So I kept troubleshooting the car with the boost issues. Thought maybe the wastegate springs were too low (11psi when I thought they were 15psi) so swapped those out to make 17psi base spring pressure and re did the boost control and it got a little better but not fixed. Even with the wastegate duty at 90% still.

I did a bunch of searching and asking around and everyone thinks it's back pressure in the turbine housing with the new overall flow of the S3 cams. I don't want to swap out to the 1.01 housing and make it even laggier.

I actually ordered up another set of GSC s2 cams that I'm planning on swapping in. I got the S3s pulled Wednesday night. Waiting on someone to reply to me about trading some S2s for these s3 cams. If not I'll put in the new S2s and sell the 3s. I've got someone lined up to buy already if this trade thing falls through.

Anyways I know I'll lose overall airflow and honestly moving back to the S2s don't make sense in solving my problem of making more boost but the car felt quite a bit slower on the 3s than the 2s for some reason I can't explain. Maybe instead of the turbine being the choke point with the S3s, the S2s are the choke point? Idk.

Anyways I also got all my sweet "HD" clamps and realized that my intercooler is a 3" outlet but my piping is a 2.5 so I also ordered up some 3" > 2" HD clamps weld on ferrule adapters. Fit perfect with my new clamps.

Picked up one of the 3d printed fuel pump covers from DSM3DCreations and that fits great and looks better.

Also found some black energy suspension poly pushings on rockauto for the front subframe, control arm, rear control arms and rear track bar / toe bar. Idk when I'll get around to doing those but they're here now. I'd love to find some rear subframe bushings but Im not sure anyone makes them.

The new S2 cams are in. I noticed a difference in the finish of the cams which I thought was weird. The exhaust cam is shinier and the intake cam is pretty flat colored. I'm not too worried about it but a weird observation.

Timing stuff will go back in once the new tensioner is here. With that, I'm going to go through and re-tension the timing belt manually. The current tensioner is giving me some vibes it needs to be replaced possibly. I'll keep it around for if I get in a pinch though. Since they are discontinued.

I think it’s interesting your car felt slower on the s3’s, did you see any difference in logged airflow? I’ve contemplated running s2’s because on paper the s3’s are overkill for my setup, but on the 5 speed spool wasn’t bad at all, granted my turbo’s smaller than yours but the car screamed up top.

Link ecu is hard to read for airflow honestly. I did read lower but because the boost was lower. So it's hard to compare. It definitely felt slower with the S3s though. Not sure if it's cause it pushed the torque further into the RPM or what.

I'd honestly bet you'd probably pick up torque, power and boost with the S2s because you don't have a large turbine wheel / housing.

I could have picked up some boost by going with the 1.01ar housing but I didn't want to give up anymore spool than I already did going with the S3s.

Oh man do I have a surprise for you guys.

Should pick them up I THINK tomorrow. I'll post up when it's all done.

Them? THEM?!

Your LS swapping it and twin turbo'ing it.

Blocked and reported.

:p

Okay so got the timing stuff buttoned up again on the talon but it's running like shit again. I wonder if I have the timing off again SOMEHOW. I verified that the marks on the sides of the cams were lined up as well as the crank and everything else but it's running pretty lean at idle now and sounds like its misfiring like it did last time..

The crank kinda looks like it's like about 5° advanced somehow.

Well this timing this got me worried.
Using THIS guide I verified that my timing IS correct counting belt teeth, and cam gear teeth. So hopefully it actually is.

Now Im wondering if the fueling was just so far off going back to the S2 cams? Going back and looking at my emails with Ken, he said he DID pull out 15% fuel when i moved to the S3s.. i wonder if thats because of the overlap in the cams causing the cylinders to fill with air less?

When i get home today im going to add some more fuel into the VE and see if the car likes it.
