Dude if I were you I would just buy a new car, I mean oil pan:ohdamn:, I’m telling you, a good oil pan seal is like a happy mls head gasket LOL, if you want a leak free oil pan, buy a new Spectra, get some Ultra Grey RTV and crack a beer to celebrate.
Problem is, I got this fancy ass Buschurs baffle welded into this pan..

I ordered one anyways. Maybe I'll just have the baffle done again.. oil pans are $66 on Amazon right now

Curious why I don’t see anyone using the MAPerformance oil pan. Is it just the cost? I bought one years ago and worried a little as I don’t see anyone using them…? Obviously I haven’t installed/tested yet.

IMO, price for me. $170 for an oil pan that is basically Identical to the $66 one I just ordered. I've never stripped out bolt holes or anything on mine. No leaks from the return line either.

Out of curiosity. Since the oil is on the top of the intake manifold, how can this be related to a faulty headgasket?

If it's not a leaky valve cover gasket or oil cap, the oil would have to leaking out of the intake manifold gasket.

I believe that the gasket might have blown, leaking into the crank case causing excessive pressure and blowing oil out the cap and valve cover seal.

I'll be doing a leak down tomorrow to confirm or not what it might be and go from there.

Just the excessive oil in places it shouldn't be and the weird misfire, and the fact that the engine overheated pretty badly recently makes me think it did.

Great news fellas. Head gasket is not blown, car doesn't seem hurt.
The problem was cylinder 1 coil pack connector came unplugged. So no sparky spark. I'm going to change plugs now though since it was firing fuel with no spark, probably fouled out that plug. 2nd time this has happened. The oil seemed to be that my oil cap was not centered in the hole and leaked out of the seal? I have a crappy eBay oil cap that doesn't center in the hole.. so it kind of slides around.

Took the car for a little rip and it seems to run just fine. Car again shifted great into 3rd on a little 2-3 and saw 49.6 psi, so close to 50 LOL

Anyways here's a neat little 2nd rip spinning.

I tried to record my 2-3 but didn't have a phone holder so I stuffed my phone in my hoodie collar and tried to hold it up with my chin but I accidentally stopped recording 😢

HELL yeah brother. Thing rips.

Also: where'd the oil come from? Leaky VC or oil cap gasket?

Buy a cheap auto parts store oil cap, rob it's gasket and double up the gasket on your cap. It's what I did.

Oil cap gasket I'm pretty sure. This is the issue I THINK happened:

Definitely do this. My chinabay one seals like, entirely too good(PITA to get it off sometimes) so I haven't had to do this but I would in a heartbeat if it was loose. That's crazy.

Worked on the blue car last night car was basically pulled almost completely apart except some stuff in the engine bay and the dash bars and what not.

Was able to get:
Wiring harness installed and mostly routed.
HVAC installed
Dash fully installed, including all cluster, radio consoles
Steering column installed
Pedal assembly installed with brake and cluster master connected
Headliner installed
Shifter and full center console fully installed

As it sits right now there just a bunch of loose bolts I threw in there from the swap that probably still belong at least somewhat to the car and a bunch of loose trim pieces.
PXL_20241108_133158444.jpg

I had to roll up the passenger side window without power to the whole harness. Got to thinking and I just applied 12v to the window motor and up it went!

Need to get the hood installed and tie up a bunch of the dangling wires in the bay as well as close up all the big holes into the car ( shifter cables, drilled holes for extra wires in the firewall, fuel pump cover, etc.)

I'll be playing musical suspension between the cars this weekend I think to get the blue one out since I don't have struts for it. Take the coilovers off the red one, put them on the blue one to roll out, and reverse and put them back on the red one after it's back in stands.

Car looks like garbage but looks cool with the sunrise this morning

There's a trend lately of people calling things garbage that aren't. This is one of those times, it looks great. Might be a few spots here and there, but its 30 years old. In human years that's like 70. Hope I look that good at 70. :p

Thanks man, you're right. I think I'm just upset that it doesn't look better than it does. I'm one of those "have nice things" type of guys so it's hard for me to see it not be a 10/10 type of car.
Also working on trying to just enjoy it before I try to take it apart for months and paint it.

I'm curious, what bugs you the most about the exterior appearance?

Honestly just everything. There's chips and 2 small rust spots, clear coat is fading around most of the car, big scratches on the hood, broken windshield

Ooof, gotcha.

I mean I know your standards, so I know this probably gonna make you physically and visually flinch suggesting it....but I mean, I'm still gonna suggest it anyway.

Why not hit it with some Rustoleum Gloss Red in one of those fancy turbo cans? Pop it in a portable garage and fix the spots. It'll work in the short time until you can paint it for realskies. @1990TSIAWDTALON /Marty has used it and it matches to the OEM red pretty spectacularly.
