Well she has an obvious audible vacuum leak and I can't pinpoint it but have tried. She's back in the shop for an intake side tear down and re-install. It's either an intake gasket or an injector seal but I have all the parts in stock so I'm taking a 4 day weekend to spend a complete day on her and then enjoy the rest.
Sorry it's not a big update, but it IS what is happening at the shop and my fun little car :thumb::dsm::talon:
Thanks for following. I'm really ready for some good ole boost action and a car that I used to know.
Marty

I know Will, Thanks!
I really want to go out and terrorize some modern muscle again!!!!

That's a neat idea. One of my best friends said to take a mechanics stethoscope and put a pushrod in the end instead of the probe and you can zero in on the vacuum leaks. I tried and it was helpful but since I have replaced everything else and had a intake gasket go out on this car once before, I don't mind taking out a few bolts/nuts to get fresh seals and gaskets in. I can at least put a check in that box for things I have done until I get to the ONE that has probably caused my car to be undriveable for the last year.

I took time during good weather and the Daytona 500 today to replace the intake gasket and look everything over. Nothing obvious so tomorrow I'll put the fuel rail back on and new injector seals, hell maybe my spare set of 2150s if I think I want to. My current 2150s have been running gasoline so they just need pickled. More updates tomorrow! Not getting any hopes up but checking off stuff that needed freshened up as the Felpro intake gasket was definitely hard and brittle from heat.
Thanks for tagging along!!!

Don’t give up on her Marty! It’s dsm owners like you with patience and perseverance that keep these cars alive! Good Luck on her and lookin forward to more videos as well:rocks:

Me too! I'd LOVE to have some more shaningans to share FOR SURE! :D
If i can get the courage up to take the FIRST BOLT out of my '90 Jacks 5 speed, I have good help remotely if I have any questions and THAT car would be back on the street too, the Red 90 Talon. My 1st DSM. :thumb: She was insanely fast and fun, but both of the hot cars will make ya smile when running right. Thanks for encouraging me along on the Blue 92 auto car too Jeremy!!!

Alright, I had a nice day on Sunday so I took the laptop out and started the Talon. I let her log at idle, showing how it goes lean, then rich, then lean etc. I tried not to touch the gas at all until later in the log to see if I could get her to rev up at all. I haven't had a lot of time to diagnose the log, BUT....what I can see is that my WG solenoid is operating and I need to just turn it off at this point AND I notice that when the simulated front O2 (LC2 wideband with new Bosch sensor) cycles, it effects the tune. When it cycles to .02V, the WB goes LEAN and when it cycles back to .80V, it acts normal.
Can you fella's and ladies take a look, AGAIN, at my log and see if you spot something that is keeping the motor from richening up.
And for giggles, look at the 131.161 second mark and look at those AFRestimates
Again, I appreciate you all.
Thank you! :)
Marty

Already fixed. Had a TB gasket leak. I have sprayed (hosed) down the intake/TB area and nothing changes. I appreciate you both taking time out of your lives to give advice. I honestly am not going to waste another year of my life fkn with this, that was all year last year and I'm getting close to 60. No more smiles, can't drive the dam thing so I am about fed up with it (but greatly appreciate the DSM community).
Hey......how did you get Link on your flashdrive? ROFL

just install it to a flash drive. then you can run it from work pc without actually installing it to the company's machine

Are you saying you fixed a leak before this log? or after? bc if you are getting rolling idle to 1400rpm, I am pretty sure you still had a leak in that log.

I thought you were the one who did the write up on how to boot link from a USB drive. Anyways, no one here wants to hear you talk that way. Put the vehicle aside, work on the other 2-3 DSM you have /or them chevy/ford blocks. You better be 200 working on a DSM LOL. the community needs you 🤘🏼keep ya head up, we with you 🤝🏼

I also thought Marty was the one who taught me that via PM! Maybe I am getting confused!!

The deal is, I'm not moving. Its sitting still Will.
I am certainly open to options and opinions so keep it coming!

"rolling idle" doesnt have anything to do with if the car is moving or not

rolling idle refers to the way it goes up and down from 800 to 1400 repeatedly

RPM is red in this screenshot

Your idle is ROLLING and that probably means you still have an intake leak... BLT?

The blue line is the front o2 (simulated) cycling from .2V to .8V, which is normal behavior.

Marty, I've been looking for where you originally posted this pic (below). I have it saved on my computer but I'd like to be able to refer people to the original wherever it was posted and I can't find it. The original is 2160 x 2880 pixels. If I repost it, it will show as only 1500 x 2000 pixels, because of the lower limits we have now for photos in here. And more pixels is better for a shot like this.
I downloaded it May 23, 2019, but I don't remember where or when you posted it.
It's the best shot I know of for the timing end, all put together and lined up and tensioned, and looking straight at it.

DSM timing belt end put together - good large photo in DSMtuners from 1990TSIAWDTALON.jpg

I am looking for it. I only have, like a million pictures to sort thru, but I will keep up the search. :)

Look here -
So far this is the best shot I have, I bet that the original is on one of my thumb drives. I will look at any pictures from 2019. I should have it on here somewhere, but haven't found it yet.
Is there any way you can look at the "details" or "properties" of the picture you downloaded so I might be able to find it easier?
This one doesn't have the resolution that you originally had, I don't think and it is from a slightly different angle. Any details you can find on your original download, let me know.
Marty
