1G Offset for 17x9 1g Talon

The ideal offset for a 17x9" wheel for a 1g has been determined to be 27mm.

I think when I was looking into RPF-1 wheels, they had a 35mm offset available in the 17x9, which is likely what I would have gotten and run spacers.

Sorry to bring this up AGAIN, but does running the spacer effectively bring the offset to +27mm? I know that you can't actually change the actual offset of the wheel without changing the wheel dimensions themselves and the spacer just increases the back space of the wheel.

I'm curious because I'm looking at a set of Rota Grids or Avid AC06s in a 17x9 +35mm for my 90 GSX.

If you're at 35 mm using a 5mm and a 3 mm spacer will effectively put you at 27 mm. However you must use ARP strengthened and lengthened studs.

As per being involved in a similar conversation a while back......+27 is the proper offset for a 9" wheel on the 1G. Some fellas got together in the past and figured this all out. A 9" wheel with a +45 offset will be pretty bad, you can't take all that wheel and try to shove it under the fender, your steering will suffer badly. By using that offset your are creating an excessive "scrub radius" where the wheel/tire are moving forward and back too much rather than "pivoting" when you are giving steering inputs. You will wear tires at a more rapid rate, wheel bearings at a more rapid rate, and most of all cost yourself some car control. Aesthetics need to take a back seat if you're going to set it up right. And, as another said above, with a 9" wheel you should run minimum 245 series tires, otherwise back off to an 8.5" wheel if you must run 235 series. I bolted my 17 X 8.5" +30 offset Gram Lights from my EVO onto the talon jsut to see how they fit, you can put a finger between the edge of the rim and the rear trailing arm with no spacing, they stick out a bit in back, obviously moreso in front. I did not have the chance to check steering. All in all you have to use what you have to use, but, if you have a choice, why not get it as perfect as can be? My .02

Good luck!

ps-if you have any interest in seeing the relationship of the 8.5" wheel on a 1g I have pics I can toss up here
Phil,
Can you share pictures of the 17x8.5 +30 wheels on your 1g please?
