Well since I always surf these forums to look for advice on everything, one thing I found very little information on was wide wheels. There were plenty of opinions but not many pics aside from I think asngsx? So this is just another confirmation thread on 17x9 +35 offset for a 2g. Also the Gray fn01rc wheels are confirmation of how 18x8.5 +30 offset fits. I will try to get better pictures.

Hey guys, I think when posting "confirmation" threads like this you need to include tire size and suspension setup used (or how much your car is lowered from stock). This might now work for cars that are lowered a little more than the original poster's.

Will do I apologize for not including all the information. The vehicle is on Koni Yellows with Ground Control Coilovers. No rubbing, took it for a spirited drive and had no problems.

Tire size is 245/40/17 Toyo T1Rs. I will be throwing some 255s on quite soon as there is plenty of space. I actually would like to pick up some wheels with 17x9 +38 if I could get them to tuck even more and maybe see how a 17x9.5 would be. I am trying to not get it to stick out toooo crazy. I go through wheels really quickly so I experiment with tons of wheels and offsets.

The FN01RCs only have 235/40/18s on them but I would like to throw on some 255s for dailies. The look of 18s is waaaaayyyy better so I am going to try next some 18x9 +35 with 255/35/18s. Preferably some Advan RS, or if I find a ridiculous deal some Rota G-forces since they are the same style, but typically I dont like knock-offs.

I wonder if this holds true for 1g's as well. I want to run a 255 wide 17" tire so I can have a nice size tire but still get a good amount of rubber to hold her down at the track.

Selling both sets to try different offsets and width..check the classifieds.

Someone mentioned scrub radius, what would the correct offset in terms of scrub radius for a 17x9.5?

Let me guess - your fourth pic shows your security system, right? :p

When I get my Evo 8 rims back on in the spring, I will have to start a thread and do the same.

I got a set fnorc1's last november I havent even try them on.
They are 17x9 +35 with A032r's 255 wide.
Good to know that they wont have a problem fitting, this may change for guys running some other kind of tires, like falkens rt-615 since they are thicker than other tires.

Are all confirmed 17x9 + 255/40-17 users 2Gb? Seems that way.

Yes. 2ga rear control arms are of a bit different in design and will not fit such wide setups. I looked into this when I was looking for a dsm because so many people suggested that I just get a 2ga and do a 2gb conversion on it. I found that out by a post of someone who had both a 2ga and 2gb and was trying to swap setups on the cars. There was something different about the control arms between the two.

I have the fn01rc in 17x9 +35 with 5mm spacers in the back. Do you guys run any spacers?

The spacers are probably what is getting it to work on a 2ga rear end.

.

The curved part of the spindle/knuckle that curves up to the upper control arm is the only part with clearancing issues. The difference between the 2ga and 2gb ones is about 3mm. I bought my current wheel setup (255/45/17 on 17x9 +35) and after getting a 2ga donor car for my AWD swap realized they just barely hit. I tested them out on my friends 2gb and they fit, but just barely. I swapped the 2gb spindles onto my car and they have been fine. Here is a picture of the test fit.

The question nobody seems to be asking - and a pretty important piece of info if you care about handling. It's one thing if the wheels fit. But they also have to maintain good suspension geometry. Otherwise the extra rubber doesn't help as much as it could.

Anyone know the answer to this question? I know this was one piece of info that was taken into consideration when Team Dynamics made our 17x9 wheels for the 1g guys. They concluded that the correct offset for that size on a 1g was 27mm. Sure, other offsets might still fit, but 27mm was the correct size for the suspension geometry. I'm not sure if that is also true for the 2g though. This being the road racing forum, I think we need to figure it out.

WHat size tire does that 27mm offset hold true for with a 17x9 rim though? I would love to run a 17x9 rim but do not know how it would do with clearance. Also is this at stock ride height or lowered?

The wheel diameter doesn't really matter much. It’s the tread width and overall tire diameter that determine whether or not the tires will fit. +40mm offset is the sweet spot. It places the tire very near the center of the available space (keeping good suspension geometry). This becomes more and more important as width and/or height is increased over stock tire size. It is assumed that only a reasonable amount of lowering (up to 1.5 inches) will exist.

Its seems for the 2G, if you are going to want to run 17" wheels, the widest you can get there without some work is 245/35/17 (+50mmm offset). That will still give you 6mm of knuckle clearance and 17 mm of fender clearance. Anything less than say 15mm or less of fender clearance will require some type of fender rolling depending on the offset of the wheel.

But if you go with a +40mm offset, the best you can get (without fender mods) is a 225/50/17. Here are some charts with the data I am referring to for 2G's. Will show 16, 17, 18 & 19 inch wheels for fitment.

Orange = Significant deviation from stock tire diameter - Not recommended.
Green = Adequate clearance.
Yellow = 15mm or less fender clearance may require fender flange rolling.
Red = Zero or neagtive clearance.

Thank you for confirming this. The "info" had been tossed around a lot without solid confirmation.

Is this test fit picture 2Ga or 2Gb? The two are simply bolt-up interchangeable?

I ask because I ran 245/45-17 Nitto NT-01 on evoIX 17x8 enkies, and without a spacer they were locked against the upper curve of the arm. With spacers (5mm), they rub under load on the road course. I've since sold them off.

The curved part of the spindle/knuckle that curves up to the upper control arm is the only part with clearancing issues. The difference between the 2ga and 2gb ones is about 3mm. Howdy all, been a while since I last posted buy I thought I'd add to the mix.

Model: 2Gb

Wheel: Kosei 17x9-35

Tires:
- 255/40/17 Bridgestone Potenzas 050A
- 255/40/17 Toyo R888s
- 255/40/17 Nitto NT-01
- 225/45/17 Hoosiers 'Koni' (Grand-Am cup tires)

Relevant suspension mods:
- Mullerized JICs
- JDM galant front knuckles
- SPC upper control arms

Notes:
- Front camber: 2.5
- Rear camber: 1.7
- lots of fender rolling in the rear
- fronts rub under sustained corner load w/ 255 r-comps (adjustments in ride height and increased spring rates help)
- one thing to note....increases wheel bearing wear. I've been changing out fronts every 8-12 months since I started tracking on this config in '07. These are OEM bearings as well. The autoparts stores version would last two, sometimes just one weekend before developing play.

How much are you OEM wheel bearings costing ya? And that doesnt sound too bad, lots of road racers have oto replace their wheel bearings a lot more than 8-12 months.

Do you know if this applies to Galant VR-4s also??
